AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing IoT devices face challenges in maintaining continuous cloud connectivity and authentication in a multi-region environment, especially during failures, without requiring significant modifications or complex failure detection logic.

Method used

An IoT device and an observer device monitor the status of multiple regions, with the observer device detecting failures and directing the IoT device to switch connections to a functioning IoT server in another region, using a certificate-based verification mechanism to maintain authenticity.

Benefits of technology

IoT devices can operate safely and securely without interruption by switching connections to functional servers in different regions, ensuring continuous service availability and authentication.

Abstract

To ensure that IoT devices continue to operate safely and without interruption even during failures, we provide technology that appropriately switches connection destinations to cloud servers located in multiple geographical regions. [Solution] The system comprises an IoT device that communicates via the internet with IoT servers installed in multiple regions, and an observer device that monitors the operational status in one or more regions. When the observer device detects a failure in the region where the first IoT server connected to the IoT device is installed, it disconnects the connection between the IoT device and the first IoT server by connecting to the first IoT server using the client identifier corresponding to the IoT device. The IoT device then receives information to switch the reconnection destination to a second IoT server installed in another region.
