Abstract
To provide a design method for a pneumatic tire that can predict an optimal shape of a side wall rubber, and a manufacturing method for a pneumatic tire.SOLUTION: A design method for a pneumatic tire includes steps of: calculating an approximate straight line representing a relation between a side wall width and a cross sectional area of a side wall rubber, from data on shapes of side wall rubbers with at least two sizes including a first side wall width and a second side wall width; calculating a predicted cross sectional area corresponding to a side wall width to be predicted other than the first side wall width and the second side wall width, on the basis of the approximate straight line; and determining a maximum thickness between a site at a tread side and a site at a bead side, on the basis of a shape of the site at the tread side and a shape of the site at the bead side of the side wall rubber determined from the side wall width to be predicted, and the predicted cross sectional area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 12
