Abstract

To suitably prevent light quantity loss.SOLUTION: An observation optical system 10 guides light from a display panel 50 for displaying an image to an observer. The observation optical system includes optical surfaces of a first surface R1, a second surface R2, a third surface R3, and a fourth surface R4, in order from an observation side toward an image display side. The first surface R1 and the fourth surface R4 are a transmission / reflection surface that transmits and reflects light and formed into a curved surface. The following conditional expression is satisfied. (1) 0.3≤|f2 / f1|≤1.3. In the expression, f1 is the focal length of a first lens L1 having the first surface R1 and the second surface R2, and f2 is the focal length of a second lens L2 having the third surface R3 and the fourth surface R4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
