To provide an electric power conversion device with which, when abnormality occurs in one of a plurality of series-connected converters, it is possible to maintain the faulty converter in a bypass state by a simple configuration.SOLUTION: Provided is an electric power conversion device comprising a main circuit unit having a plurality of series-connected converters and a control device for controlling the operation of the main circuit unit. Each of the plurality of converters includes a pair of connecting terminals, a plurality of switching elements, a charge accumulating element connected in parallel to the plurality of switching elements, and a voltage detection circuit for detecting the DC voltage of the charge accumulating element. When maintaining a bypass state, each of the plurality of converters switches the plurality of switching elements to the ON state so as to short the charge accumulating element in response to the event that the DV voltage of the charge accumulating element became less than a lower-limit value, causing a short-circuit fault to the plurality of switching elements.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
