Abstract

A semipermeable membrane is provided, comprising at least two two-dimensional (2D) heterostructure layers and a polyelectrolyte layer between each of the at least two 2D heterostructure layers. A method for producing the membrane is also provided, comprising mixing a 2D heterostructure solution with a polyelectrolyte solution to form a mixture, and filtering the mixture under reduced pressure onto a substrate to form a membrane. In a preferred embodiment, the 2D heterostructure layer comprises graphene oxide and the polyelectrolyte layer comprises polyethyleneimine (PEI).
