Abstract

An electronic document conversion and sharing system and method that allows document originator control of an electronic document, where the electronic document is shared by a document originator with at least one recipient. An input device receives an original electronic document and document-specific control instructions related to the original electronic document. Upon conversion, a new encrypted converted document is created from the original electronic document, the encrypted converted document having an embedded transaction ID and control instructions. If permitted, the recipient may view the encrypted converted document after decryption, within limits set by the control instructions, such as the time span during which the document may be viewed or the number of times the document may be viewed.
