Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a side handle for an electric hand-held power tool. The side handle has a gripping area designed to be gripped by a user and a clamping unit. Using the clamping unit, the side handle can be removably fastened to the tool neck of the hand-held power tool, and the clamping unit has an operating element for clamping and releasing the clamping unit.

[0002] A side handle of the type described at the beginning is basically known from the prior art. European Patent No. 1974867 (B1) discloses a handle for a hand-held power tool comprising a pair of clamping halves, an operating device having an operating part suitable for opening and closing the clamping halves with respect to the mounting part, and a handle body configured to be gripped by an operator. This type of side handle is subject to high mechanical stresses for the fixed clamping to the power tool, which means a large load is applied to all components of the side handle, especially the handle. This mechanical stress can often lead to damage to individual components or complete failure of the side handle.

[0003] The object of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems, and in particular, to provide a better side handle or a side handle with higher load-bearing capacity.

[0004] This object is achieved by the subject matter of independent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the subject matter according to the invention are described in the dependent claims.

[0005] This problem is solved by a side handle for an electric handheld power tool having the features of claim 1. The side handle has a gripping area designed to be gripped by a user and a clamping unit. Using the clamping unit, the side handle can be removably fastened to the tool neck of the handheld power tool, and the clamping unit has an operating element that can clamp and release the clamping unit.

[0006] According to the present invention, the clamping unit substantially comprises a clamping lever, a clamping element, a counter-clamping element, and a connecting device, and when the clamping unit is clamped, a flow of force passes through the clamping unit and the counter-clamping element can be moved relative to the gripping area.

[0007] As a result, the mechanical load on the side handle can be reduced.

[0008] In a further advantageous embodiment, the gripping region may include at least one guide element through which the counter-clamping element can be guided in at least one direction.

[0009] In a further advantageous embodiment, the guide element may include a through hole, thereby allowing the counter-clamping element to be guided axially.

[0010] In a further advantageous embodiment, the clamping element may be designed as a first latch sleeve.

[0011] In a further advantageous embodiment, the clamping element may include a helical slotted link having at least a first and a second portion, the first portion having a first inclination and the second portion having a second inclination, wherein the first inclination is greater than the second inclination. In other words, the first inclination may be more rigid than the second inclination. Due to the greater inclination, a relatively large axial distance can be covered by a relatively small rotational movement of the clamping element. Conversely, due to the smaller inclination, a relatively large rotational movement must be covered by a relatively small axial distance. The two different inclinations of the slotted link of the clamping element can achieve different effects when the clamping lever is rotated or when the clamping unit is clamped.

[0012] In a further advantageous embodiment, the counter-clamping element may be designed as a second latch sleeve.

[0013] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the connecting device may include first and second connecting pieces.

[0014] In a further advantageous embodiment, the closing element may be designed as a rotating closing part.

[0015] It has been found to be advantageous if the operating element is formed as a clamp lever. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the clamp lever is positioned on the side handle so as to be rotatable about a pivot axis relative to the gripping area. Preferably, when the side handle is fastened to a handheld power tool, the pivot axis extends perpendicular to the working axis of the handheld power tool. In a more particularly preferred embodiment, the rotation of the clamp lever about the pivot axis is limited to 360 degrees, preferably 110 degrees. In this regard, it has been recognized that in the case of a prior art side handle, long, repeated rotations of the operating part are typically required both around the working axis and in the inclined axis of the handheld power tool in order to adjust and move the side handle to the desired position. In other words, in the case of a prior art side handle, the clamp strap needs to be rotated several times, i.e., more than 360°, by the clamp screw interacting with the operating part.

[0016] A stopper is formed on the clamp lever, and it has been found to be advantageous that the stopper is preferably formed complementary to a counter-stopper provided in the gripping region. The gripping region may have a hollow profile, or may be substantially formed by such a hollow profile.

[0017] The clamping unit may have two clamping bodies in the form of cylindrical portions, each oriented coaxially with respect to the clamping screw of the clamping unit, the clamping screw extending within the axis of rotation. Preferably, the clamping unit has a clamping strap holder and a clamping strap provided to surround the tool neck. Preferably, one of the clamping bodies in the form of a cylindrical portion is formed integrally with the clamping lever or connected to the clamping lever so as to be at least rotatably fixed. The clamping strap holder may have two retainers, preferably exactly two retainers. The clamping screw may be connected to the clamping lever so as not to rotate relative to it, for example, via a hexagonal portion.

[0018] In certain embodiments, the clamp strap is locked to or can be locked to the clamp strap holder. Advantageously, the clamp strap does not have through holes for clamp screws. This has the advantage that the side handle can be pre-assembled at the factory and can be assembled to a handheld power tool where the tool holder has a diameter larger than its tool neck, only by unlocking or locking the clamp strap. In the case of a side handle of the prior art, such a situation usually requires substantially complete disassembly of the side handle, or at least substantially complete disassembly of the clamp unit. The advantageous design of a clamp strap holder with a lockable clamp strap also allows for time savings during assembly, and therefore cost savings.

[0019] Furthermore, it has been found advantageous for the clamp strap holder to have a recess that is radially recessed and has a retaining projection, so that a second clamp strap having a second diameter different from the first diameter can be secured in place of a locked clamp strap having a first diameter. The retaining projection may have a spring contact surface, the curvature of which is greater than that of the clamping surface of the clamp strap holder that contacts the tool neck. Advantageously, the same clamp strap holder can be used for handheld power tools with different tool neck diameters. Advantageously, a system is provided consisting of a side handle with multiple clamp straps of different diameters, each clamp strap being able to be secured to one identical clamp strap holder.

[0020] In a more preferred embodiment, the clamp strap holder has two coaxial retainers, at least one of which can be clamped by a cone / hollow cone paired with one of the clampers in the form of a cylindrical portion. The second retainer can be clamped by a cone / hollow cone paired with the handle end piece of a side handle. The handle end piece can be formed integrally with the gripping area. The cone / hollow cone pair can be assigned a cone formed on the second clamper and / or a hollow cone formed on the first retainer, or vice versa. A cone / hollow cone pair can be provided between the handle end piece and the second retainer.

[0021] The clamp strap holder may have at least one surface portion on the side facing the tool neck, the surface portion having an increased coefficient of friction and / or an increased modulus of elasticity compared to the rest of the clamp holder.

[0022] According to further separate subject matter seeking protection, a side handle for an electric handheld power tool is provided, the side handle having a gripping area designed for a user to grip, and a clamping unit to which the side handle can be removably fastened to the tool neck of the handheld power tool, the clamping unit having an operating element that can clamp and release the clamping unit. The clamping unit further comprises a clamping strap holder and a clamping strap provided for surrounding the tool neck, the clamping strap being locked to the clamping strap holder and preferably having no through hole intended for a clamping screw. The clamping strap holder may have a recess that is radially recessed and has a retaining lug so that a second clamping strap having a second diameter different from the first diameter can be locked in place of a locked clamping strap having a first diameter, the retaining lug preferably has a spring contact surface with a curvature greater than the clamping surface of the clamping strap holder that contacts the tool neck. The side handle can be designed in a corresponding manner by features described with reference to exemplary embodiments of the side handle according to the present invention.

[0023] According to further separate subject matter seeking protection, a side handle for an electric handheld power tool is provided, the side handle having a gripping area designed for a user to grip, and a clamping unit to which the side handle can be removably fastened to the tool neck of the handheld power tool, the clamping unit having an operating element that can clamp and release the clamping unit. The clamp strap holder may have at least one surface portion on the side facing the tool neck, the surface portion having an increased coefficient of friction and / or an increased modulus of elasticity relative to the rest of the clamp holder. The side handle can be designed in a corresponding manner by features described with reference to exemplary embodiments of the side handle according to the present invention.

[0024] According to a further independent subject matter for which protection is sought, a side handle for an electric hand-held power tool is provided, the side handle having a gripping area designed for the user to grip and a clamping unit by which the side handle can be removably fastened to the tool neck of the hand-held power tool, the clamping unit having an operating element by which the clamping unit can be clamped and released. The clamping unit can have two clamping bodies in the form of cylindrical parts, each of which is oriented coaxially with respect to a clamping screw of the clamping unit, the clamping screw extending within a rotation axis, and further having a clamping strap holder having two coaxial holding bodies, at least one of the holding bodies being able to be clamped by a cone / hollow cone that mates with one of the clamping bodies in the form of a cylindrical part. The side handle can be designed in a corresponding manner by the features described with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the side handle according to the invention.

[0025] Further advantages can be found in the description of the following figures. The drawings show various examples of the invention. The drawings, the description and the claims contain a number of features combined. A person skilled in the art will consider the features individually as appropriate and will also form further meaningful combinations by combining them.

[0027] Exemplary Embodiment A preferred exemplary embodiment of the side handle 1 according to the present invention for a power tool 2, such as a chisel hammer, is shown in FIG. 1.

[0028] The power tool 2 designed as a chisel hammer substantially includes a housing 3, a main handle 4, and a tool holder 5. Refer to FIG. 1.

[0029] The housing 3 has a front end 3a, a rear end 3b, a top surface 3c, and a bottom surface 3d. The tool holder 5 is positioned at the front end 3a of the housing 3 and is designed to receive and hold a tool 6 designed as a chisel.

[0030] The internal components of power tool 2 include, among other things, a drive unit, an impact device, a gear unit, and a control device. However, the drive unit, impact device, gear unit, and control device are not shown in the figure.

[0031] A tool neck 7 is provided at the front end 3a of the housing 3, near the tool holder 5, to which a side handle 1 can be attached. The side handle 1 is used as an additional holding and guiding means for holding and guiding the power tool 2.

[0032] The side handle 1 is shown in detail in Figures 2 to 8 and substantially includes a clamp unit 8 having a gripping area 9, a clamp lever 10, a closing cap 11, a clamp element 12, a clamp screw 13, a counter-clamp element 14, a connecting device 15, a clamp strap 36, and a closing element 17.

[0033] The clamp lever 10 includes an operating element 18 at its first end 10a and a drive element 19 at its second end 10b. The drive element 19 is used to interact with the clamp element 12 and has a circular receiving region 20 having two opposing protrusions 20a, 20b. The protrusions 20a, 20b may also be referred to as cams.

[0034] The clamp screw 13 is elongated or cylindrical and is substantially used to hold or support the clamp unit 8 together. The screw head 21 is provided at the first end 13a and the threads 22 for the screw nut 23 are provided at the second end 13b.

[0035] In this exemplary embodiment, the clamp element 12 is designed as a first latch sleeve. As shown in Figures 12 to 18, the clamp element 12 designed as a first latch sleeve includes a cylindrical body 24, a ramp device 25 at a first end 24a of the body 24, and a crown gear 26 at a second end 24b of the body 24. Three anti-rotation locks 27 in the form of protrusions are positioned on the outer surface of the body 24 of the first latch sleeve 12. See Figures 17 and 18. The ramp device 25 is used to interact with the drive element 19 of the clamp lever 10 and, in this embodiment, is designed as a helical slotted link 28 having two ramp elements 29. The helical slotted link may also be referred to as a spiral, coil, or screw slotted link. The helical slotted link may also be referred to as a slotted link or ramp device having two helical ramp elements.

[0036] As shown in Figure 17, the helical slotted link 28 according to this exemplary embodiment has a first portion 30 and a second portion 31, the first portion 30 having a first inclination and the second portion 31 having a second inclination, the first inclination being greater than the second inclination. In other words, the first inclination may be more rigid than the second inclination. Due to the greater inclination, a relatively large axial distance can be covered by a relatively small rotational movement of the clamping element 12. In contrast, a smaller inclination requires a relatively large rotational movement to be covered by a relatively small axial distance. The two different inclinations of the slotted link 28 of the clamping element 12 allow for different effects to be achieved when the clamping lever 10 is rotated or when the clamping unit 8 is clamped.

[0037] In this exemplary embodiment, the counter clamp element 14 is designed as a second latch sleeve. As shown in Figures 6 to 8, the counter clamp element 14 designed as a second latch sleeve includes a cylindrical body 32, with a crown gear 33 at one end 32a of the body 32. Similarly, three anti-rotation locks 34 in the form of protrusions are positioned on the outer surface of the body 32 of the second latch sleeve 14. Similarly, anti-rotation locks 35, also formed as protrusions, are positioned on the inner surface wall of the body 32 of the second latch sleeve 14.

[0038] The connecting device 15 is used substantially as a clamp strap holder for receiving and holding a clamp strap 36 and includes first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b. Both the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b each include a cylindrical body 37 having a central through hole 38 and an arcuate guide arm 39. As shown in Figure 7, each body 37 has a blind hole 40 that is laterally offset with respect to the central through hole 38. In this exemplary embodiment, the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b are substantially identical. These arcuate guide arms 39 are used to guide a substantially circular clamp strap 36 and to bring the connecting pieces 15a, 15b into close contact with the tool neck 7 of the power tool 2.

[0039] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the clamp strap 36 can have different diameters for corresponding different diameters of the tool neck 7.

[0040] To receive and hold the corresponding ends of the clamp straps 36, each arcuate guide arm 39 has a locking element 41 at its free end. See Figure 7. The correspondingly bent ends of the clamp straps 36 can be locked into the locking element 41. The bent ends of the clamp straps 36 may also be referred to as locking portions. A crown gear 42 is provided at the first end of each cylindrical body 37. This crown gear 42 on the connecting pieces 15a, 15b is designed to correspond to the crown gears 26, 33 on the first or second latch sleeves 12, 14. As will be further described below, the corresponding crown gears 42 on the connecting pieces 15a, 15b and the latch sleeves 12, 14 are used for a removable rotational lock between the latch sleeves 12, 14 and the connecting pieces 15a, 15b. The associated pins 43 are located at the second ends of the cylindrical bodies 37 of the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b. The pin 43 is offset laterally with respect to the central through hole 38 and positioned at the first end of the body 37 opposite the blind hole 40 with respect to the central through hole 38. When the two connecting pieces 15a and 15b are arranged facing each other as shown in Figures 6 to 8, the free end of the pin 43 can be brought from the first connecting piece 15a into the correspondingly designed blind hole 40 of the second connecting piece 15b. The connection of the pin 43 in the blind hole 40 prevents the two connecting pieces 15a and 15b from twisting relative to each other.

[0041] The closing element 17 is designed substantially as a rotating closing part or as a screw and is used as a sealing means at the lower end of the clamp unit 8 and as a receiving element for the threads and screw nut of the clamp screw 13.

[0042] The gripping region 9 is arc-shaped and includes a first end 9a and a second end 9b. In particular, as seen in Figure 8, a sleeve element 44 is provided at the first end 9a and a guide element 45 is provided at the second end 9b. The sleeve element 44 at the first end 9a is substantially designed in two parts having first and second ring elements 46, 47. The first ring element 46 includes three recesses 48 designed to correspond to the three anti-rotation locks 27 of the clamp element 12. The guide element 45 at the second end 9b is designed as a through-hole having three recesses 49. The recesses 49 are designed to correspond to the three anti-rotation locks 34 on the counter-clamp element 14. See Figure 8.

[0043] As shown in Figures 6 to 8, a clamp element 12, designed as a first latch sleeve for attaching the side handle 1, is positioned within a first ring element 47 of the gripping region 9. The clamp lever 10 is positioned on the gripping region 9 so that the drive element 19 aligns with a circular receiving region 20 within a second ring element 47. The first and second connecting pieces 15a and 15b of the connecting device 15 are positioned facing each other between the first ring element 46 and the guide element 45. A counter clamp element 14, formed as a second latch sleeve, is positioned within the guide element 45, which is formed as a through hole.

[0044] The clamp screw 13 is guided from above in direction A through the sleeve element 44 of the gripping area 9, the drive element 19 of the clamp lever 10, the clamp element 12, the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b, and the counter clamp element 14 at its second end 13b.

[0045] With the side handle 1 assembled, the crown gear 42 of the first connecting piece 15a engages with the crown gear 26 of the clamp element 12, and the crown gear 42 of the second connecting piece 15b engages with the crown gear 33 of the counter clamp element 14. See Figures 2, 3, 5, and 20.

[0046] At the first end 13a of the clamp screw 13, the screw nut 23 is attached to the thread 22 and the closing element 17. The closing cap 11 closes the corresponding opening of the closing element 17.

[0047] Figures 2-4 and 19 show the side handle 1 or clamp unit 8 in the clamped state. In the clamped state, the side handle 1 is fixed or immovably mounted to the tool neck 7 of the power tool 2 and cannot rotate relative to the tool neck 7, so the side handle 1 can be used to hold and guide the power tool 2. As seen in the corresponding figures, in the clamped state, the operating element 18 of the clamp lever 10 ergonomically abuts against the gripping area 9 in the corresponding recess. Due to the specific design of the drive element 19, two protrusions press against the raised portion of the helical ramp element 29 of the clamp element 12, and as a result, the drive element 19 presses the clamp element 12 in direction A, opposite to the rotational direction DR, around the rotation axis DA. As the clamp element 12 moves or is pressed in direction A, the clamp element 12 presses against the crown gear 42 of the first connecting piece 15a with its crown gear 26. Next, the first connecting piece 15a is moved toward the second connecting piece 15b in direction A, or the two connecting pieces 15a and 15b are moved toward each other, resulting in the clamp strap 36 connected to the connecting pieces 15a and 15b being shortened or the diameter of the clamp strap 36 being reduced. As shown in Figure 5, the force flow KF passes only through the clamp unit 8 and not through the gripping area 9. By shortening the clamp strap 36, the friction on the tool neck 7 of the power tool 2 is increased so that the side handle 1 is fixedly connected to the housing 3 of the power tool 2.

[0048] Figure 20 shows the side handle 1 or clamp unit 8 in the released state. In the released state, the diameter of the clamp strap 36 is expanded, and as a result, the side handle 1 can be rotated relative to the tool neck 7 or removed from the tool neck 7.

[0049] To remove the side handle 1 or the clamp unit 8, the clamp lever 10 is rotated in the rotational direction DR around the rotation axis DA, causing the protrusions 20a and 20b of the drive element 19 to slide downward in direction A along the inclined portion of the ramp element 29 of the clamp element 12, and the drive element 19 no longer applies pressure to the ramp element 29. As a result, the clamp element 12 and the first connecting piece 15a can also move in the opposite direction to A. The two connecting pieces 15a and 15b can move away from each other without pressure from the drive element 19 on the clamp element 12, as a result, the clamp strap 36 connected to the connecting pieces 15a and 15b is released or the diameter of the clamp strap 36 is expanded. The clamp element 12 is moved in direction A relative to the sleeve element 44 of the gripping area 9, and the counter clamp element 14 is moved in direction A relative to the guide element 45 of the gripping area 9.

[0050] The gripping area 10 may be made of, or contain, polypropylene, ABS, polyamide, or polyurethane. The clamp lever 10 may be made of the same material as the gripping area 9. The clamp lever 10 may be made of, or contain, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
