BACKGROUND ART

[0003] Marine areas where ships navigate can be distinguished according to the distance from the land. Although the distance criteria vary from country to country, marine areas are generally divided into coastal waters (or littoral zones), territorial seas, and high seas according to the distance from the land. Coastal waters (or littoral zones) refer to sea areas closer to the land than the territorial sea, where economic activities or fishery activities are carried out. The territorial sea refers to the sea area extending up to 12 nautical miles from the coastline of the land. The high seas refer to all seas beyond the territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone, and refer to sea areas not under the sovereignty of any specific country. The frequencies of wireless communication used on ships (for example, the frequencies of wireless communication used for communication of wireless devices) or frequency bands are differently specified for each marine area by the laws and regulations of each country. When the marine area changes as the ship navigates, the user using the wireless device on the ship must manually change the frequency band used for communication of the wireless device in order to comply with the communication regulations.

[0031] Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating how a control device according to one embodiment controls the communication mode of an unpowered device.

[0032] Referring to Figure 1, the radio equipment 130 used on a ship (for example, ship 200 in Figure 2) can conduct radio communication via frequencies in other frequency bands depending on the sea area where the ship is located. The frequency band and frequency used for radio communication by the radio equipment 130 are stipulated differently in each country according to the laws and regulations. If there are changes in the sea area where the ship is located, the control device 110 can have the radio equipment 130 change the frequency used for radio communication by the radio equipment 130 to the frequency stipulated for the sea area where the ship is located. The control device 110 can reduce the inconvenience of having to manually change the frequency band used for radio communication by the radio equipment 130 even if there are changes in the sea area where the ship is located.

[0033] The control device 110 can transmit communication setting information to the wireless relay device 120 so that the wireless relay device 120 can transmit the communication setting information to the wireless device 130.

[0034] The control device 110 can acquire positional information for the ship's position at sea and identify communication setting information based on the ship's positional information. For example, if the control device 110 detects that the ship's position at sea is entering a second maritime area (e.g., the high seas) corresponding to a second communication mode from a first maritime area (e.g., territorial waters) corresponding to a first communication mode, based on the ship's positional information, it can identify communication setting information corresponding to the second communication mode. The ship's positional information may be acquired from a GPS sensor or determined using a base station network. For example, the control device 110 may determine the ship's position at sea based on triangulation using base stations located on land. The communication setting information includes at least one of the following: the frequency band of the radio communication used in the second maritime area, the frequency used for the radio communication, and the signal strength of the radio communication.

[0035] The control device 110 can cause the wireless relay device 120 to transmit communication setting information corresponding to the second communication mode to one or more wireless devices 130 via the wireless relay device 120. The first communication mode is a mode having different communication settings than the second communication mode.

[0036] In one embodiment, the control device 110 can, when it detects that a vessel's position at sea is entering a second sea area from a first sea area, generate an alarm request signal (for example, "entered Korean territorial waters") that causes the radio device 130 to provide an alarm indicating the change in sea area. The control device 110 can cause the radio relay device 120 to transmit the alarm request signal to one or more radio devices 130.

[0037] The wireless relay device 120 can communicate with the control device 110 and the radio equipment 130 simultaneously or individually. The wireless relay device 120 performs metal body communication for controlling the communication modes of the control device 110 and the radio equipment 130. For example, the wireless relay device 120 may receive communication setting information corresponding to a second communication mode (for example, the communication mode of the radio equipment 130 when a ship enters territorial waters) from the control device 110 via metal body communication. The wireless relay device 120 can communicate with the control device 110 via metal body communication, which transmits signals using the metal body of the ship as a medium with a communication circuit.

[0038] A wireless relay device 120 according to one embodiment can communicate with other wireless relay devices (not shown) via metal body communication. For example, the first wireless relay device (e.g., wireless relay device 211 in Figure 2) may transmit communication setting information corresponding to the second communication mode, received from the control device 110 via metal body communication, to the second wireless relay device (e.g., wireless relay device 222 in Figure 2) via metal body communication. Metal body communication will be described in detail with reference to Figure 2.

[0039] In one embodiment, the wireless device 130 receives communication setting information from the wireless relay device 120. The wireless device 130 uses the received communication setting information to change at least one of the following: the frequency band used for wireless communication of the wireless device 130, the wireless communication frequency, or the wireless communication signal strength. The process of changing the communication mode of the wireless device 130 using the received communication setting information will be explained in detail with reference to Figures 3 and 4.

[0040] Figure 2 is a diagram illustrating in-ship communication using a wireless relay device according to one embodiment.

[0041] Referring to Figure 2, the wireless equipment used within the ship 200 includes a first wireless equipment 212 and a second wireless equipment 221, and the wireless relay equipment includes a first wireless relay equipment 211 and a second wireless relay equipment 222. The first wireless equipment 212 can communicate wirelessly with the first wireless relay equipment 211 in a first wireless communication area 210, and the second wireless equipment 221 can communicate wirelessly with the second wireless relay equipment 222 in a second wireless communication area 220.

[0042] A wireless device can adjust the frequency used for wireless communication between wireless devices based on communication setting information received from a wireless relay device. In response to receiving communication setting information from a wireless relay device, a wireless device can change the frequency used for communication between wireless devices to the frequency used for wireless communication. For example, the first wireless device 212 receives communication setting information from the first wireless relay device 211, and in response to receiving the communication setting information, can change at least one of the frequency band, frequency, and wireless communication intensity used for wireless communication of the first wireless device 212 to the frequency band, frequency, and wireless communication intensity included in the received communication setting information.

[0043] A first wireless relay device 211 and a second wireless relay device 222 according to one embodiment can be installed in a ship 200 made of metal. The first wireless relay device 211, the second wireless relay device 222, and a control device (not shown) can communicate with each other through metallic communication using the metal that makes up the ship 200.

[0044] Metallic communication refers to a communication method that uses a metal medium. A wireless relay device (e.g., a first wireless relay device 211) receives signals and / or data from a terminal communication device (e.g., a first wireless device 212), and transmits the received signal data to another wireless relay device (e.g., a second wireless relay device 222) using a metal medium. Wireless relay devices 210 and 220 can efficiently perform wireless communication in communication shadow environments where radio wave communication is difficult due to metal bodies such as ships 200, containers, and trailers, by using a metal medium. Wireless relay devices 210 and 220 may include an antenna device that is attached to the metal hull of a ship 200, creates an electromagnetic field on the metal hull, and transmits communication setting information received from the data processing unit of a control device (e.g., the processor 620 in Figure 6) via the electromagnetic field through the metal body. The antenna devices of the wireless relay devices 210 and 220 receive signals and / or data transmitted to the electromagnetic field via a metal body, and the wireless relay devices 210 and 220 can transmit the received signals and / or data to terminal communication devices via their own communication channels.

[0045] The principle by which signals and / or data are transmitted through a metal body is as follows. The metal medium may, for example, be the steel plates or frame structure of a ship's hull. The explanation will be divided into cases where the metal medium is magnetic and cases where it is diamagnetic.

[0046] When the metallic medium is a magnetic material The conductive layer of the first antenna of the first wireless relay device 211 causes an electromagnetic field to form in the dielectric layer. This electromagnetic field then creates a magnetically dominant electromagnetic field in the metal medium, which is the propagation medium. Of the generated electromagnetic field, the electric field E1 propagates perpendicularly to the metal medium through the aperture of the first antenna. The propagated electric field E1 causes a magnetically dominant electromagnetic field B to form within the metal medium.

[0047] According to the theory of reversibility, the second antenna of the second wireless relay device 222 on the receiving side receives energy from the electromagnetic field formed within the metallic medium using a similar structure and principle. In this process, a change in the magnetic field dominant electromagnetic field B is transmitted from the dielectric layer to the electric field dominant electromagnetic field E2 via the aperture surface of the second antenna.

[0048] In communications using a metallic medium, the magnetic field is dominant, so the change in impedance is small even if the shape and size of the metallic medium change. Also, because the permeability of a metallic medium is greater than that of air, the radio wave transmission efficiency is superior to that of communication systems that propagate through air. Therefore, the communication distance is even longer when communicating through a magnetic metallic medium than when communicating through a magnetic field in air. In order to form an electromagnetic field where the magnetic field is dominant, the resonant section and circuit section of the wireless relay device must be designed so that an electric field of a certain size is formed inside the metallic body.

[0049] An electromagnetic field formed in a metallic medium allows energy transfer to a resonator located a certain distance from the metallic medium. Since the electromagnetic field formed in a metallic medium is predominantly magnetic, an electric field is radiated from the metallic medium, and if an antenna resonating at its operating frequency is within a certain distance from the metallic medium, it can receive energy.

[0050] The dielectric material of the dielectric layer of the first or second antenna can reduce the thickness and size of the resonant section, and allows for the formation of a magnetic field dominant electromagnetic field B in the metallic medium, thereby ensuring sufficient energy is transmitted.

[0051] When the metallic medium is paramagnetic or diamagnetic The current that abruptly switches to the conductive layer forms an electric-field-dominant electromagnetic field E1 within the metallic medium. Here, the electric field radiated from the aperture cannot form a magnetic-field-dominant electromagnetic field B within the metallic medium. This is because the permeability of paramagnetic and diamagnetic materials is similar to that of air. Therefore, in a paramagnetic or diamagnetic metallic medium, the electromagnetic waves of the magnetic field do not become stronger than in the air, as in the case of a ferromagnetic material, and propagate with a similar size. In other words, the propagation distance is similar whether in air or within the metallic medium.

[0052] In the case of pure iron, a ferromagnetic material, the permeability is 4000-5000, but in the case of paramagnetic material aluminum and diamagnetic material silver (Ag), the permeability is approximately 1.0, so the strength of the magnetic field and radio waves inside the metal body differs. Therefore, in this case, the signal is propagated to the receiver by a current induced in the metal body from the conductive layer of the antenna that is in contact with the metal body. Here, an electric field radiated from the aperture surface is induced in the metal body, and this transmits the signal or power.

[0053] In the case of structures whose main structure is metal, such as the ship 200 shown in Figure 2 (for example, an LNG carrier), radio waves cannot pass through the metal, resulting in reflection and / or attenuation, which hinders smooth wireless communication. Therefore, in the case of structures made of metal, wireless communication shadow areas may occur where wireless communication is difficult or impossible. For example, wireless communication shadow areas occur in the pipe ducts, engine room, bosun store, engine control room (ECR), and bow thruster room of an LNG carrier. What is most needed here is a relay device that can be used between areas where radio waves can be easily radiated into the air and general wireless communication can be performed smoothly, such as the cargo control room (CCR), bridge, living quarter including the compass deck, or upper deck, and the wireless communication frequency range area. Wireless relay devices 210 and 220 according to one embodiment can perform a relay role in relaying communication between wireless communication-enabled areas and wireless communication shadow areas.

[0054] The wireless relay device receives communication configuration information from the control device (for example, the control device 110 in Figure 1). If the sea area to which the vessel 200 belongs changes, the communication configuration information will indicate the communication configuration information identified by the control device in the changed sea area. The wireless relay device transmits the received communication configuration information to wireless devices around the wireless relay device. For example, the first wireless relay device 211 may transmit the communication configuration information received from the control device to the first wireless device 212, and the second wireless relay device 222 may transmit the communication configuration information received from the first wireless relay device 211 to the second wireless device 221.

[0055] Figure 3 illustrates how to change the communication settings of a radio device when a vessel according to one embodiment enters the territorial waters of different countries on the high seas.

[0056] Referring to Figure 3, in one embodiment, the maritime area is divided into the territorial sea 310 of the first country, the high seas 320, and the territorial sea 330 of the second country. The territorial sea 310 and the high seas 320 of the first country are separated by a first boundary line 315, and the territorial sea 330 and the high seas 320 of the second country are separated by a second boundary line 325. A vessel located at a first position 301 in the high seas 320 may enter the territorial sea 310 of the first country or the territorial sea 330 of the second country. Based on position information received from a GPS sensor, the control device can determine whether the vessel has entered the territorial sea 310 of the first country, the high seas 320, or the territorial sea 330 of the second country.

[0057] In one embodiment, when a vessel located at a first position 301 in the high seas 320 enters a second position 302 in the territorial waters 310 of a first country, the control device can, in response to receiving communication setting information from a radio relay device, change the frequency used for communication between radio devices to the frequency used for radio communication in the territorial waters 310 of the first country, using one or more radio devices used on the vessel. For example, when a vessel located at a first position 301 in the high seas 320 enters the territorial waters of South Korea, the control device can, in response to receiving communication setting information in the territorial waters of South Korea from a radio relay device, change the frequency used for communication between radio devices to 156.600 MHz, using radio devices used on the vessel.

[0058] In one embodiment, when a vessel located at a first position 301 in the high seas 320 enters a third position 303 in the territorial waters 330 of a second country, the control device can, in response to receiving communication setting information from a radio relay device, change the frequency used for communication between radio devices to the frequency used for radio communication in the territorial waters 330 of the second country, using one or more radio devices used on the vessel. For example, when a vessel located at a first position 301 in the high seas 320 enters Japanese territorial waters, the control device can, in response to receiving communication setting information in Japanese territorial waters from a radio relay device, change the frequency used for communication between radio devices to 156.700 MHz, using radio devices used on the vessel.

[0059] Figure 4 illustrates how the communication settings of the wireless device are changed when a vessel according to one embodiment enters a different marine area.

[0060] Referring to Figure 4, the maritime area is divided into near sea 410 (or coastal waters), territorial sea 420, and high seas 430. Near sea 410 and territorial sea 420 are separated by a first boundary line 415, and territorial sea 420 and high seas 430 are separated by a second boundary line 425. A vessel located in territorial sea 420 (for example, vessel 200 in Figure 2) may enter near sea 410 or high seas 430. Alternatively, a vessel located in high seas 430 may enter territorial sea 420. A control device (for example, control device 110 in Figure 1) can determine whether a vessel has entered near sea 410, territorial sea 420, or high seas 430 based on position information received from a GPS sensor (not shown).

[0061] If the maritime area in which a vessel is located changes due to the vessel's movement, the control device can change the frequency used for radio communication by the radio equipment. For example, if the control device detects that a vessel has entered a second maritime area from a first maritime area, it may identify a second communication mode. The control device transmits communication setting information corresponding to the second communication mode to one or more radio equipment via a radio relay device, instructing the radio relay device to transmit the communication setting information corresponding to the second communication mode to one or more radio equipment. The radio relay device transmits the transmitted communication setting information to one or more radio equipment. In response to receiving the communication setting information from the radio relay device, the radio equipment can change the frequency used for communication between the radio equipment and the radio relay device (or the radio relay device) to the frequency used in the second maritime area. For example, the radio equipment that has received the communication setting information may change from the conventional first communication mode to the second communication mode. The second communication mode refers to a mode with different communication settings than the first communication mode. The first communication mode refers to the communication mode in the sea area before the vessel's sea area changed (e.g., territorial waters 420), and the second communication mode refers to the communication mode in the sea area into which the vessel entered (e.g., near sea 410). For example, the second communication mode may include at least one of the following: the frequency band of radio communication used in the second sea area (e.g., near sea 410), the frequency used for radio communication, and the signal strength of radio communication. The control device may, in response to receiving communication setting information from a radio relay device, have one or more radio devices adjust the signal strength used for communication of the radio devices to the signal strength of radio communication included in the received communication setting information.

[0062] A vessel located at a first position 401 in the territorial sea 420 according to one embodiment may enter a second position 402 in the near sea 410. In this case, the first communication mode indicates a communication mode when the vessel's sea position is in the territorial sea 420, and the second communication mode indicates a communication mode for communicating with a port communication facility located on land when the vessel's sea position is in the near sea 410. The near sea 410 refers to an area defined at a shorter distance from land than the territorial sea 420.
