AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional microreactors face challenges in producing uniform particles due to variations in synthesis conditions, and particles tend to adhere and accumulate within the channel, causing clogging, especially when the nucleation to growth period is short.

Method used

A microfluidic device with a mixing channel section, a retention channel section, a detection mechanism for pressure, and a vibration applying mechanism that applies vibration to the retention flow path to prevent particle adhesion and ensure continuous operation.

Benefits of technology

The device stably produces particles with uniform sizes even when the material has a short nucleation to growth period, preventing channel blockage and enabling long-term continuous synthesis.

Abstract

This microfluidic device comprises: a first flow channel through which a first raw material fluid flows; a second flow channel through which a second raw material fluid flows; a combined flow channel part in which the first flow channel and the second flow channel join each other, the first raw material fluid and the second raw material fluid react to generate a nucleus that grows into a particle, and a fluid containing the particle is obtained; and a vibration applicator that applies vibration to the fluid flowing through the combined flow channel part. The combined flow channel part has a mixing flow channel part that is a joining portion between the first flow channel and the second flow channel, and a retaining flow channel part communicating with the downstream side of the mixing flow channel part, and in which vibration is applied by the vibration applicator.
