AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current all-solid-state lithium secondary batteries face challenges in achieving sufficient mechanical strength in their electrode active material layers, despite advancements in materials and structures, indicating a need for further reinforcement to enhance durability and performance.

Method used

Incorporating a fibrous binder oriented in a specific direction within the electrode active material layer, either parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the rectangular battery structure, to improve mechanical strength, which is achieved through precise orientation of the fibrous binder and conductive additive during the manufacturing process.

Benefits of technology

This configuration significantly enhances the mechanical strength of the electrode active material layer, as demonstrated by increased tensile strength and improved resistance to deformation, while maintaining discharge capacity and charge/discharge efficiency.

Abstract

Provided is a means that is capable of, in a secondary battery comprising an electrode active material layer, further improving the mechanical strength of the electrode active material layer. This secondary battery comprises a power generation element which has a rectangular shape having four sides in a plan view and which is formed by laminating an electrode formed by disposing an electrode active material layer containing an electrode active material on the surface of a current collector, and a solid electrolyte layer containing a solid electrolyte. The secondary battery is configured such that the electrode active material layer includes a binder orientation active material layer which contains a fiber binder and in which, in a plan view of the electrode active material layer, the orientation degree of the fiber binder, in a direction parallel to one set of opposite sides of the rectangular shape or in a direction perpendicular to said opposite sides, is less than 45°.
