Abstract
Description
Pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions and sheet-like gaskets, flooring materials, sealing materials for the interior of automobile doors, cushioning materials for fuel tanks, sealing materials for electronic components, cushioning materials for lithium-ion batteries, sealing materials between solar cell panels and support members of solar cell modules, sealing materials for electronic devices, sealing materials for electrolysis devices, and sealing materials
[0001] The present invention relates to a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition used to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and to a sheet-like gasket, a flooring material, a sealing material for the interior of an automobile door, a cushioning material for a fuel tank, a sealing material for electronic components, a cushioning material for lithium-ion batteries, a sealing material between a solar cell panel and a support member of a solar cell module, a sealing material for electronic devices, a sealing material for an electrolysis device, and a sealing material using the same.
[0002] A fuel cell (FEFC) consists of an ion exchange membrane (electrolyte), an oxygen electrode, a hydrogen electrode, a supporting current collector, and a carbon separator with flow rectifying grooves on one side for gas flow and flow rectifying grooves on the other side for cooling water flow. The separator sandwiches the integrated ion exchange membrane and both electrodes to form a single cell.
[0003] A large number of single cells are then lined up and stacked to form a stack, metal current collector plates are placed on both ends of the stack to serve as external current extraction terminals, and a clamping plate is placed between insulating plates. The whole is then fastened together with bolts to form a single unit, forming a fuel cell.
[0004] In such fuel cell separators, gaskets are used to prevent leakage of cooling water. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a separator structure for a fuel cell, which is used in a fuel cell in which electrodes are arranged on both sides of an ion exchange membrane and sandwiched between separators to form a single cell, and which is characterized in that a gasket or a rubber ring is integrated with the separator by adhesive.
[0005] In addition, in electronic components for automobiles, the internal electronic component body must be isolated from the outside air, so a sealant with excellent airtightness is required at the contact points between the external connection parts and the housing and at the overlapping parts of the housings. In addition, in electronic devices used in devices other than automobiles, the internal electronic component body must be isolated from the outside air, so a sealant with excellent airtightness is required at the contact points between the external connection parts and the housing and at the overlapping parts of the housings.
[0006] Furthermore, in a solar cell module, a sealant with excellent sealing properties is required between the solar cell panel and its support member to block moisture from the outside.
[0007] Furthermore, in stacked lithium ion batteries, cushioning materials are provided between stacked cells to fix each cell in place while adapting to the expansion and contraction of the cells.
[0008] Furthermore, in the electrolysis device, a sealing material for the electrolysis cell is used.
[0009] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-156234
[0010] In the above-mentioned prior art, the sealing performance is improved by increasing the elastic modulus of the solid rubber material that is the main material of the sealing material, or by increasing the compressive stress of the foamed rubber material.
[0011] However, if the crosslink density of the solid rubber is increased too much in order to increase the elastic modulus of the solid rubber material, or if the foaming rate is reduced too much in order to increase the compressive stress of the foamed rubber material, high surface pressure is generated at the sealed area, which can damage other components with low strength. On the other hand, if the elastic modulus of the solid rubber is reduced or the foaming rate is increased too much in order to prevent high surface pressure from being generated at the sealed area, there is a problem that the seal material will wear down significantly over time.
[0012] Therefore, it is necessary to improve the sealing property of the sealing material by a method other than increasing the elastic modulus of the solid rubber material that is the main material of the sealing material or increasing the recovery rate of the foamed rubber material. One method for doing so is to provide an adhesive layer using an adhesive composition on the surface of the elastic rubber material, such as the solid rubber material or foamed rubber material that is the main material of the sealing material, to increase the adhesion of the elastic rubber material to the object to be sealed, thereby increasing the adhesion between the elastic rubber material and the object to be sealed.
[0013] In addition, some sealants use resin, metal, paper, or cork materials. In these cases, as with elastic rubber materials, in order to improve the sealing properties of the sealant, an adhesive layer is provided on the surface of the resin, metal, paper, or cork material to increase the adhesiveness of the resin to the object to be sealed, thereby increasing the adhesion between the resin, metal, paper, or cork material and the object to be sealed.
[0014] Furthermore, there are cases where only the adhesive layer made of the adhesive composition is used as a sealing material without using a substrate such as an elastic rubber material, a resin material, a metal material, a paper material, or a cork material.
[0015] Here, automotive electronic components, solar modules, automotive lithium ion secondary batteries, etc. may become locally or temporarily at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example, 100°C) in summer. In addition, electrolysis devices may also become at high temperatures.
[0016] Therefore, a sealing material that has excellent sealing properties not only at room temperature of around 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C) is required, and therefore a sealing material in which an adhesive layer is provided on an elastic rubber material, resin material, metal material, paper material or cork material requires an adhesive layer that has excellent adhesive properties not only at room temperature of around 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C).
[0017] Furthermore, even in a sealing material formed only from a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition, a sealing material that exhibits excellent sealing properties not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C) is required. Therefore, in a sealing material formed only from a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that exhibits excellent adhesive properties not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C).
[0018] Therefore, an object of the present invention is either (1) or (2) as follows: (1) To provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer to be provided on the surface of an elastic rubber material, a resin material, a metal material, a paper material, or a cork material that is the main material of a sealing material, which is a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition that can form a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that has excellent adhesion both at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example, 100°C) and at room temperature of about 25°C. (2) To provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer in a sealing material that is formed solely from a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition, which is a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition that can form a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that has excellent adhesion both at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example, 100°C) and at room temperature of about 25°C.

[0074] In the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention, the ratio of the content of copolymer (A) to the total content of copolymer (A) and copolymer (B) ((copolymer (A) / (copolymer (A)+copolymer (B)))×100) is 5 to 95 mass%, preferably 10 to 90 mass%, more preferably 20 to 80 mass%, more preferably 25 to 75 mass%. When the ratio of the content of copolymer (A) to the total content of copolymer (A) and copolymer (B) is within the above range, it is possible to achieve both high adhesion at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C) and high adhesion at room temperature of about 25°C.
[0075] In the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention, the ratio of the content of tackifier (C) to the total content of copolymer (A) and copolymer (B) ((tackifier (C) / (copolymer (A)+copolymer (B)))×100) is 5 to 100% by mass, preferably 10 to 70% by mass, and more preferably 30 to 50% by mass. When the ratio of the content of tackifier (C) to the total content of copolymer (A) and copolymer (B) is within the above range, it is possible to achieve both high adhesion at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C) and high adhesion at room temperature of about 25°C.
[0076] The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention may contain an antioxidant (D) in addition to the copolymer (A), the copolymer (B), and the tackifier (C). Examples of the antioxidant (D) include amine-based, phenol-based, benzimidazole-based, phosphoric acid-based, and organic thioacid-based antioxidants.
[0077] When the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention contains an antioxidant (D), the ratio of the content of the antioxidant (D) to the total content of the copolymer (A) and the copolymer (B) ((antioxidant (D) / (copolymer (A)+copolymer (B)))×100) is 0.10 to 1.0 mass%, preferably 0.15 to 0.75 mass%, more preferably 0.25 to 0.50 mass%. When the ratio of the content of the antioxidant (D) to the total content of the copolymer (A) and the copolymer (B) is within the above range, a decrease in adhesive strength due to degradation by heat or light can be suppressed.
[0078] Furthermore, the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention may contain, in addition to the copolymer (A), the copolymer (B), and the tackifier (C), various additives used in pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions, as necessary, to the extent that the effects of the present invention are not impaired.
[0079] The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention may contain a leveling agent (surfactant) (E) as an additive. Examples of the leveling agent (surfactant) (E) include silicone-based leveling agents such as polyester-modified silicone, polyether-modified silicone, polyether-polyester-modified silicone, silicone-modified (meth)acrylic resin, carbinol-modified silicone, amino-modified silicone, polydimethylsiloxane modified with carboxyl, ether, epoxy, etc., alkyl-modified silicone, alkyl-aralkyl-modified silicone, higher fatty acid ester-modified silicone, phenyl-modified silicone, carboxyl-modified silicone, epoxy-modified silicone, and fluorine-modified silicone; straight silicones such as polydimethylsiloxane, polyphenylsiloxane, polymethylphenylsiloxane, and polymethylhydrogensiloxane; acrylic polymers, silicone-modified acrylic resins, and the like. Examples of the leveling agent include acrylic polymers such as perfluoroalkenyl carboxylates, perfluoroalkenyl sulfonates, perfluoroalkenyl phosphates, perfluoroalkyl polyoxyethylene ethers, perfluoroalkyl carboxylates, perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, and perfluoroalkyl phosphates; vinyl polymers such as vinyl ether polymers; acetylene glycol leveling agents; and olefin polymers such as olefin polymers such as low-molecular-weight polyethylene and low-molecular-weight polypropylene, and modified olefin polymers such as ethylene-(meth)acrylic copolymers and acid-modified polyolefins. Other examples of the leveling agent (surfactant) include nonionic surfactants, anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, nonionic surfactants, fluorine-based surfactants, alkoxylated surfactants, hyperbranched polyethers, sulfosuccinates, tetramethyldecanediols, and alkoxyl-modified tetramethyldecanediol.
[0080] The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention is obtained by mixing the copolymer (A), the copolymer (B), the tackifier (C), and optionally the antioxidant (D) and the like in a solvent, followed by mixing, stirring, kneading, or the like using a stirrer, and then applying the mixture to an object on which a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is to be formed, followed by removing the solvent by heating.
[0081] The solvent is not particularly limited, and examples thereof include aliphatic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon, ketone, ester, ether, and alcohol solvents, with aromatic hydrocarbon solvents being preferred. The amount of solvent used is appropriately selected depending on the application, coating method, and coating thickness.
[0082] Copolymer (A) has a high elastic modulus at temperatures above 100° C., and when combined with tackifier (C), it exhibits excellent adhesive properties at high temperatures. Copolymer (B) has flexibility at room temperature of about 25° C., and when combined with tackifier (C), it exhibits excellent adhesive properties at room temperature of about 25° C. Therefore, by containing (A), (B), and (C), the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention becomes a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition that exhibits excellent adhesive properties over a wide temperature range.
[0083] Styrenic block copolymers, typified by poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), are known as thermoplastic elastomers. The polystyrene blocks are called hard segments and are in a glassy state at room temperature, while the polybutadiene blocks are called soft segments and are in a rubbery state at room temperature. The hard segments of styrene thermoplastic elastomers act as crosslinking points, exhibiting rubber elasticity at room temperature. However, because the glass transition temperature of polystyrene is near 100°C, rubber elasticity is lost and the modulus of elasticity decreases at temperatures higher than 100°C. On the other hand, the poly-α-methylstyrene contained in copolymer (A) has a higher glass transition temperature than polystyrene, and copolymer (A) is less likely to decrease in modulus of elasticity at temperatures higher than 100°C. Therefore, the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention, which uses copolymer (A), becomes a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition with excellent adhesion at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example, 100°C).
[0084] On the other hand, when copolymer (A) is used without being combined with copolymer (B), the modulus of elasticity at room temperature of about 25° C. increases, and the adhesiveness decreases.
[0085] Therefore, in the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention, the ratio of the content of copolymer (A) to the total content of copolymer (A) and copolymer (B) ((copolymer (A) / (copolymer (A)+copolymer (B)))×100) is 5 to 95 mass%, preferably 10 to 90 mass%, preferably 20 to 80 mass%, more preferably 25 to 75 mass%, so that flexibility is maintained even at room temperature of about 25°C. Therefore, the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention becomes a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition with excellent adhesiveness at room temperature of about 25°C by using copolymer (B). However, when copolymer (B) is used without being combined with (A), adhesiveness at temperatures above 100°C is almost lost.
[0086] As described above, in the present invention, by combining the copolymer (A) having excellent adhesion at high temperatures, the copolymer (B) having excellent adhesion at low temperatures, and the tackifier (C), it is possible to provide an adhesive composition having excellent adhesion over a wide temperature range.

[0088] The content of copolymer (F) in the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention is 0 to 50% by mass, preferably 0 to 30% by mass, more preferably 0 to 20% by mass, based on copolymer (A).

[0105] The present invention will be described in more detail below with reference to examples and comparative examples, but the present invention is not limited to the following examples in any way.
[0106] (Examples and Comparative Examples) <Preparation of Adhesive Solution> 280 g of copolymer A listed in Table 1 and 520 g of solvent were weighed out into a 1 L pail and stirred at 250 to 300 rpm using a Three-One Motor for at least 4 hours to prepare a 35% solution (solution A). A 35% solution (solution B) was prepared in the same manner for copolymer B (B1 to B5) listed in Table 1. 140 g of tackifier C (C1 to C5) listed in Table 1 and 260 g of solvent were weighed out into a polypropylene container with a lid and dissolved by shaking to prepare a 35% solution (solution C).
[0107] Solutions A, B, and C were mixed to the blending ratios and concentrations listed in Tables 2 to 4, and the mixture was stirred at 500 rpm for 1 to 5 minutes using a three-one motor to prepare an adhesive solution. The concentration was adjusted by adding solvent appropriately so that the adhesive solution was in the range of 24 to 25%. <Preparation of Adhesive Film> A resin film was cut to a length of 150 mm and a width of 300 mm. The length direction was defined as up and down, and the width direction as left and right. The film was fixed to a rigid plate such as a metal plate, stood vertically, and the adhesive solution was poured over the top of the film to coat it. The coated film was placed in a high-temperature thermostatic oven to thoroughly dry the solvent, yielding an adhesive film. The thickness of the adhesive film 80 mm from the bottom edge was measured with a micrometer to determine the adhesive thickness. The resin film was made of a material selected from polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, syndiotactic polystyrene, and polyimide, and may be surface-treated as needed. <Cutting out the adhesive film for the peel test> The adhesive film was cut 20 mm from the top and 5 mm from the left, right, and bottom edges to obtain a film 125 mm long and 290 mm wide. This film was then cut to a length of 125 mm and a width of 25 mm to obtain the adhesive film for the peel test. <Compression of the adhesive film for the peel test> The adhesive film for the peel test and the adherend (stainless steel plate) were press-bonded together. The adherend cut to a length of 75 mm and a width of 25 mm were washed with ethanol. The adherend and the bottom end of the adhesive film for the peel test were then aligned and bonded together to prevent air intrusion. The test piece was placed with the adherend facing up, and a metal roller was moved back and forth three times along the length of the adherend to press it together. The metal roller weighed 1.83 kg, and the pressure was applied by its own weight. <180-degree peel test> A universal testing machine (Shimadzu Corporation, Autograph AGS-500NX) was used for the 180-degree peel test to measure adhesive strength. A tensile test jig with chucks was attached to the tester, and the distance between the chucks was set to 60 mm. The upper 25 mm of the test piece was peeled off from the adherend, and this part was used as a handle for the peel test. The edge of the adherend was gripped with the lower chuck, and the edge of the adhesive film was gripped with the upper chuck. Then, the crosshead was raised at a speed of 100 mm / min, and the adhesive film was peeled off in a 180-degree direction. The test was carried out at temperatures of 25° C., 80° C., 100° C., and 120° C. When the test was carried out at a temperature of 80° C. or higher, the peel test was carried out while heating in a thermostatic chamber.
[0108] The peel strength [N / mm] was calculated by dividing the test force [N] in the peel test by the width of 25 mm, and for each measurement result, a relative value was calculated when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00". The results are shown in Tables 2 to 4.

[0113]
[0114] In Examples 1 to 9, in the combination of A1 and B1, when the content of copolymer A based on copolymer A+B was 10% to 90%, the relative peel strength value was 1.00 or more at all temperatures of 25°C, 80°C, 100°C, and 120°C, when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00".
[0115] In Examples 10 to 13, in the combinations of A1 and B2, A1 and B3, A1 and B4, and A1 and B5, the relative peel strength values were 1.00 or more at all temperatures of 25°C, 80°C, 100°C, and 120°C, when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00."
[0116] In Examples 14 to 22, in the combinations of A1, B1, and B3, the relative peel strength values were 1.00 or more at all temperatures of 25°C, 80°C, 100°C, and 120°C, when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00."
[0117] In Examples 23 to 28, the combinations of A1, B1, and C1 (softening point 100°C), A1, B1, and C2 (softening point 115°C), A1, B1, and C3 (softening point 130°C), and A1, B1, and C5 (softening point 145°C) showed a relative peel strength of 1.00 or more at all temperatures of 25°C, 80°C, 100°C, and 120°C, when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00."
[0118] In Comparative Examples 1 to 4, in the combinations of A1 and B1, A1 and B2, A1 and B3, and A1 and B4, when the content of copolymer A based on copolymer A+B was 0%, the relative value of the peel strength at 120°C was below 1.00 when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was set to "1.00".
[0119] In Comparative Examples 5 to 14, when the content of copolymer A based on copolymer A+B was 100%, the relative value of the peel strength at 25°C was below 1.00 when the peel strength at 80°C of Comparative Example 9 was taken as "1.00".
[0120] From the above results, it is presumed that the adhesive layer comprising the adhesive composition of the present invention has high adhesive strength and excellent adhesion not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C), and therefore a sealing material having a sealing substrate such as a resin material, a metal material, a paper material or a cork material on which an adhesive layer comprising the adhesive composition of the present invention is formed will have excellent sealing properties not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C).
[0121] Furthermore, from the above results, it is presumed that the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer comprising the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of the present invention has high adhesive strength and excellent adhesion not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C), and therefore a sealing material using only a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer comprising the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition as a sealing material, without using a sealing base material such as a resin material, a metal material, a paper material or a cork material, will have excellent sealing properties not only at room temperature of about 25°C but also at high temperatures (80°C or higher, for example 100°C).
