Abstract
A municipal waste syngas generation system and method for processing municipal solid waste is disclosed. The invention comprises an integrated waste-heat drying subsystem, a mechanical inert separation subsystem, a primary rotary kiln steam reformer, an additive injection arrangement, a secondary catalytic reformer, a syngas cooling and heat recovery circuit, and a residue stabilization section. Waste heat recovered from the syngas cooling circuit is utilized to reduce moisture content of incoming municipal solid waste prior to reforming. Mechanical separation removes abrasive inert materials to minimize equipment wear. A secondary catalytic reformer containing a coking-resistant perovskite-supported catalyst enhances tar cracking and improves hydrogen-rich syngas production. Controlled injection of fluxing agents and halogen-capturing compounds stabilizes heavy metals and promotes vitrification of solid residues, thereby reducing environmentalleachability. The integrated system improves thermal efficiency, enhances syngas quality, reduces tar formation, protects reforming equipment, and provides environmentally safer residue management for heterogeneous municipal solid waste streams.
