Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a battery pack and an automobile including the same, and more specifically, to a battery pack including a stacked battery cell assembly capable of easily discharging flame gas or dust when a flame occurs in the battery pack, and an automobile including the same. Background Technology
[0002] Unlike primary batteries, which cannot be recharged, secondary batteries refer to batteries capable of charging and discharging, and are applied not only to portable devices but also to electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) driven by electric power sources.
[0003] Currently, widely used types of secondary batteries include lithium-ion batteries, lithium-polymer batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries, and nickel-zinc batteries. The operating voltage of these unit secondary battery cells, or unit battery cells, is approximately 2.5V to 4.6V. Therefore, if a higher output voltage is required, a battery pack is formed by connecting multiple battery cells in series. Additionally, a battery pack is formed by connecting multiple battery cells in parallel depending on the charge / discharge capacity required for the battery pack. Accordingly, the number of battery cells included in the battery pack can be varied depending on the required output voltage or charge / discharge capacity.
[0004] A battery cell assembly is placed inside the battery pack. In this case, when a flame occurs in the battery cell assembly, flame gases and dust accumulate and are discharged within the single-layer battery pack.
[0005] Therefore, it is difficult to discharge flame gases and dust from inside the battery pack to the outside. Specifically, when the battery cell assembly is arranged in a single layer, the space inside the battery pack is narrow, making it difficult to discharge flame gases and dust, and causing the problem of flame spread. The problem to be solved

[0034] A battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention easily discharges flame gas or dust when a flame occurs.
[0035] A battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a housing (100), a battery cell assembly (200), and a venting part (400), as illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 3.
[0036] The housing (100) forms the outer shape of the battery pack (101). Additionally, the housing (100) has a space formed inside.
[0037] A battery cell assembly (200) is placed inside a housing (100). Additionally, a plurality of battery cell assemblies (200) are stacked to have a movement path (510) through which flame gas or dust can move. Specifically, a plurality of battery cell assemblies (200) are stacked along the height direction inside the housing (100), and a plurality of them may be spaced apart with the movement path (510) in between.
[0038] For example, a space for arranging a battery cell assembly (200) is formed inside the housing (100), and a first housing cover (110) and a second housing cover (120) may be installed on both sides.
[0039] Additionally, the battery cell assembly (200) may be placed inside the housing (100). And the moving path (510) may be arranged in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0040] The venting section (400) is positioned in the housing (100) to allow flame gas or dust passing through the passageway (510) to be discharged. Specifically, the venting section (400) guides the flame gas or dust passing through the passageway (510) to be discharged outside the housing (100).
[0041] With such a configuration, the battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention can effectively prevent flame gas or dust from moving along the movement path (510) and transferring to other stacked battery cell assemblies when a flame occurs.
[0042] In addition, a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a cooling plate (300).
[0043] The cooling plate (300) can cool the battery cell assembly (200). Specifically, the cooling plate (300) is positioned at the bottom of the battery cell assembly (200), and a cooling fluid moving along a cooling channel formed inside can cool the battery cell assembly (200) by exchanging heat with the battery cell assembly (200). That is, the cooling plate (300) can cool the heat generated by the operation of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0044] The battery cell assembly (200) may include a cooling plate (300).
[0045] In addition, a plurality of moving channels (510) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be spaced apart along the stacking direction of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0046] Multiple moving channels (510) may be spaced apart along the stacking direction of the battery cell assembly (200) inside the housing (100). Specifically, the moving channels (510) may be positioned between multiple battery cell assemblies (200) or between the upper part of the battery cell assembly (200) and the housing (100) facing the upper part of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0047] That is, multiple moving channels (510) can be spaced apart from each other along the height direction of the housing (100).
[0048] Accordingly, multiple moving channels (510) are arranged inside the housing (100) to guide flame gas or dust to move effectively when a flame occurs in any one of the stacked battery cell assemblies (200).
[0049] In addition, one or more of the plurality of moving channels (510) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be disposed between the battery cell assembly (200) and the cooling plate (300).
[0050] One or more of the plurality of moving channels (510) may be positioned between the battery cell assembly (200) and the cooling plate (300) to guide flame gas or dust to move.
[0051] Specifically, the battery cell assembly (200) may include a first battery cell assembly (210) and a second battery cell assembly (220). The first battery cell assembly (210) and the second battery cell assembly (220) may be stacked along the height direction of the housing (100).
[0052] The moving channel (510) may include a first moving channel (511) and a second moving channel (512). The first moving channel (511) may be positioned between the first battery cell assembly (210) and the second battery cell assembly (220). The first moving channel (511) may be a spaced-out space between the first battery cell assembly (210) and the second battery cell assembly (220). Additionally, the second moving channel (512) may be positioned between the upper part of the second battery cell assembly (220) and the housing (100) facing the upper part of the second battery cell assembly (220).
[0053] The cooling plate (300) may include a first cooling plate (310) and a second cooling plate (320). At least a portion of the first cooling plate (310) may be positioned below the first battery cell assembly (210). At least a portion of the second cooling plate (320) may be positioned below the second battery cell assembly (220). That is, the first moving channel (511) may be positioned between the upper surface of the first battery cell assembly (210) and the lower surface of the second cooling plate (320).
[0054] Accordingly, flame gas or dust moving along the first moving path (511) positioned between the first battery cell assembly (210) and the second cooling plate (320) can prevent flame from being transferred to the second battery cell assembly (220).
[0055] In addition, a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include an exhaust passage (520).
[0056] The exhaust passage (520) may be positioned inside the housing (100) in a direction intersecting the movement passage (510). Additionally, the exhaust passage (520) may guide flame gas or dust that has passed through any one of the plurality of movement passages (510) to the venting section (400). Furthermore, the exhaust passage (520) may be positioned parallel to the height direction of the housing (100) to guide the exhaust gas that has passed through the movement passage (510) to move to the venting section (400).
[0057] Specifically, the exhaust passage (520) can guide flame gas or dust passing through the first moving passage (511) or the second moving passage (512) to be discharged to the outside of the housing (100) through the venting section (400). Additionally, the exhaust passage (520) can be arranged to communicate with the first moving passage (511) and the second moving passage (512).
[0058] That is, the exhaust path (520) can guide flame gas or dust that has passed through the first moving path (511) or the second moving path (512) to be directed to the venting section (400) formed in the housing (100).
[0059] In addition, a plurality of venting portions (400) of a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be spaced apart on the housing (100).
[0060] The venting section (400) is spaced apart on the housing (100) to allow flame gas or dust to be discharged to the outside of the housing (100).
[0061] For example, a plurality of venting sections (400) may be spaced apart in a direction parallel to the exhaust passage (520) on one side of the housing (100). Since the venting sections (400) may be spaced apart in a direction parallel to the exhaust passage (520), exhaust gas introduced through the exhaust passage (520) can be rapidly discharged to the outside of the housing (100).
[0062] In addition, the exhaust passage (520) of the battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a first exhaust passage (521) and a second exhaust passage (522).
[0063] The first exhaust passage (521) may be positioned between one side of the battery cell assembly (200) and the housing (100). Additionally, the first exhaust passage (521) may guide flame gas or dust that has traveled along the first travel passage (511) and the second travel passage (512) to travel.
[0064] The second exhaust passage (522) may be positioned between the other side of the battery cell assembly (200) and the housing (100). Additionally, the second exhaust passage (522) may be spaced apart from the first exhaust passage (521) and the battery cell assembly (200). The second exhaust passage (522) may guide flame gas or dust that has traveled along the first travel passage (511) and the second travel passage (512) to travel.
[0065] That is, the first exhaust passage (521) and the second exhaust passage (522) may be spaced apart along the longitudinal direction of the first moving passage (511) or the second moving passage (512).
[0066] In addition, the battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a venting section (400) and a first venting section (410) and a second venting section (420).
[0067] The first venting section (410) may be disposed on one side of the housing (100). Specifically, the first venting section (410) may guide flame gas or dust passing through the first exhaust passage (521) to be discharged. Additionally, a plurality of venting sections may be disposed spaced apart from each other on one side of the housing (100).
[0068] For example, the first venting section (410) may include a plurality of venting holes. Alternatively, the first venting section (410) may have a plurality of venting sections spaced apart along the width direction of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0069] The second venting section (420) may be positioned on the other side of the housing (100). Specifically, the second venting section (420) may guide flame gas or dust passing through the second exhaust passage (522) to be discharged. Additionally, multiple second venting sections (420) may be spaced apart along the length direction of the second exhaust passage (522) as well as along the width direction of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0070] For example, the second venting section (420) may include a plurality of venting holes.
[0071] Alternatively, the first venting section (410) and the second venting section (420) may be arranged parallel to the moving path (510) to guide flame gas or dust passing through the moving path (510) and the exhaust path (520) to be quickly discharged from the housing (100).
[0072] For example, a plurality of first venting sections (410) and second venting sections (420) may be spaced apart on one side and the other side of the housing (100) along the height and width directions of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0073] Accordingly, the first venting section (410) can guide flame gas or dust within the first exhaust passage (521) to be branched and discharged into multiple venting sections. Additionally, the second venting section (420) can guide flame gas or dust within the second exhaust passage (522) to be branched and discharged into multiple venting sections.
[0074] In addition, one side of the cooling plate (300) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be arranged to protrude in a direction parallel to the moving channel (510).
[0075] As illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, one side of the cooling plate (300) may be extended and protruded from the battery cell assembly (200) with a relatively longer length than the other side of the cooling plate (300). Specifically, one side of the cooling plate (300) may be extended and protruded from the battery cell assembly (200) with a longer length than the other side of the cooling plate (300).
[0076] That is, both ends of the cooling plate (300) in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the battery cell assembly (200) can be arranged to extend and protrude from the battery cell assembly (200).
[0077] The length from one side of the cooling plate (300) to the other side of the cooling plate (300) is formed to be relatively longer than the length of the battery cell assembly (200), so that when a flame occurs, the flame can be prevented from spreading in the stacking direction of the battery cell assembly (200).
[0078] For example, one side of the cooling plate (300) may be positioned relatively closer to the first exhaust passage (521) than to the second exhaust passage (522).
[0079] In addition, a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a cooling fluid supply pipe (610).
[0080] The cooling fluid supply pipe (610) may be connected to one side of the cooling plate (300). Additionally, the cooling fluid supply pipe (610) may allow cooling fluid to be supplied through a cooling channel formed inside the cooling plate (300). Furthermore, at least a portion of the cooling fluid supply pipe (610) may be placed within the housing (100).
[0081] One side of the first cooling plate (310) and one side of the second cooling plate (320) can receive and distribute cooling fluid from the cooling fluid supply pipe (610). That is, the cooling fluid supply pipe (610) can stably supply cooling fluid to a plurality of stacked cooling plates (300).
[0082] In addition, a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a cooling fluid recovery pipe (620).
[0083] The cooling fluid recovery pipe (620) may be spaced apart from the cooling fluid supply pipe (610) and connected to one side of the cooling plate (300). Additionally, the cooling fluid recovery pipe (620) may be positioned to transfer the cooling fluid, which has undergone heat exchange while passing through a cooling channel formed inside the cooling plate (300), to a cooling device outside the housing (100). Furthermore, at least a portion of the cooling fluid recovery pipe (620) may be spaced apart from the cooling fluid supply pipe (610) and the battery cell assembly (200) in the width direction within the housing (100).
[0084] One side of the first cooling plate (310) and one side of the second cooling plate (320) can be heat exchanged through the cooling fluid recovery pipe (620) so that a cooling fluid at a relatively higher temperature than the supply temperature can be recovered. Additionally, the cooling fluid recovery pipe (620) can stably recover cooling fluid from a plurality of stacked cooling plates (300).
[0085] In addition, a battery cell assembly (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a flame cover (700), as illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5.
[0086] The flame cover (700) may be positioned to cover the upper part of the battery cell assembly (200). Additionally, a plurality of holes (710) may be spaced apart and formed in the flame cover (700). When a flame occurs in the battery cell assembly (200), flame gas or dust may be discharged from the battery cell assembly (200) through the flame holes (710).
[0087] Specifically, a plurality of holes (710) may be arranged to communicate with the moving channel (510). Additionally, the flame cover (700) may be supported on the battery cell assembly (200).
[0088] In addition, a plurality of battery cells may be arranged in the battery cell assembly (200).
[0089] A first flame cover (700) may be supported on the first battery cell assembly (210). A plurality of holes (710) formed in the first flame cover (700) may be in communication with the first movement path (511).
[0090] A second flame cover (700) may be supported on the battery cell assembly (200). A plurality of holes (710) formed in the second flame cover (700) may be in communication with the second movement path (512).
[0091] In addition, a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a support bracket (800).
[0092] The support bracket (800) is supported by the flame cover (700) and can maintain a gap between the flame cover (700) covering the upper part of the battery cell assembly (200) placed at the bottom and the cooling plate (300) cooling the battery cell assembly (200) placed at the top.
[0093] Specifically, a plurality of support brackets (800) are spaced apart along the longitudinal direction of the battery cell assembly (200) to effectively maintain a space for flames to be discharged through a plurality of holes (710) formed in the flame cover (700). Additionally, the support brackets (800) can support a plurality of battery cell assemblies (200) so that a movement path (510) is formed, allowing them to be stacked.
[0094] For example, the support bracket (800) may be supported in some areas by the flame cover (700), and the remaining areas may be bent upwards to be stacked with a gap between the multiple battery cell assemblies (200).
[0095] Alternatively, a battery assembly (200) or a battery module may be disposed inside the housing (100) of a battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, the battery module may include a plurality of battery cells and a module case that accommodates the cells.

[0105] The first moving path (511) may be formed in the spaced-apart space between the flame cover (700) of the first battery cell assembly (210) and the second cooling plate (320) positioned at the bottom of the second battery cell assembly (220).
[0106] The second moving path (512) can be formed in the spaced-apart space between the flame cover (700) of the second battery cell assembly (220) and the third cooling plate (330) positioned at the bottom of the third battery cell assembly (230).
[0107] The third moving channel (513) may be formed in the spaced-apart space between the flame cover (700) of the third battery cell assembly (230) and the fourth cooling plate (340) positioned at the bottom of the fourth battery cell assembly (240).

[0110] Flame gas or dust introduced into the first exhaust passage (521) can be discharged to the outside of the housing (100) through a plurality of first venting sections (410). Specifically, the flame gas and dust introduced into the first exhaust passage (521) can be distributed and guided to be discharged toward a plurality of first venting sections (410) by being arranged in a direction intersecting the moving passage (510).
[0111] Alternatively, flame gas or dust introduced into the second exhaust passage (522) may be discharged to the outside of the housing (100) through a plurality of second venting sections (420). The flame gas or dust introduced into the second exhaust passage (522) may be distributed and guided to be discharged toward the plurality of second venting sections (420) by being arranged in a direction intersecting the moving passage (510). That is, a plurality of second venting sections (420) may be arranged along the longitudinal direction of the second exhaust passage (522) to guide the flame gas and dust to be rapidly discharged from the housing (100).
[0112] That is, flame gas or dust moved along any one of the multiple moving paths (510) flows into a first exhaust path (521) or a second exhaust path (522) arranged parallel to the height direction of the housing (100) and moves along the height direction of the housing (100). In addition, the flame gas or dust can be easily distributed to multiple first venting sections (410) adjacent to the first exhaust path (521) or multiple second venting sections (420) adjacent to the second exhaust path (522) and quickly discharged.
[0113] Additionally, flame gas or dust moving along the third moving path (513) can be prevented from being transferred to the fourth battery cell assembly (240) by the fourth cooling plate (340) which is positioned to extend and protrude beyond the fourth battery cell assembly (240).
[0114] Alternatively, even if flames are generated in the second battery cell assembly (220) and the third battery cell assembly (230) and flame gas or dust is moved through multiple moving paths (510), such as the second moving path (512) and the third moving path (513), they can be effectively discharged to the outside of the housing (100) by the multiple venting sections (400).
[0115] With such a configuration, the battery pack (101) according to one embodiment of the present invention can easily discharge flame gas or dust to the outside when a flame occurs.
[0116] Additionally, the battery pack (101) can effectively prevent the flame from spreading to other layers of the stacked battery cell assembly (200).
[0117] Although the present invention has been described with reference to preferred embodiments as described above, it is not limited to the aforementioned embodiments, and various changes and modifications may be made by those skilled in the art within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit of the invention.
