Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a transformer, and more specifically, to a transformer capable of blocking a magnetic field and reducing heat generation by using a shielding member disposed inside a housing.
[0002] This patent is the result of research conducted with the support of the Regional Demand-Tailored Research and Development Project of Jeollanam-do and Jeonnam Technopark in 2023. Background Technology
[0003] A transformer is a device that converts alternating current (AC) voltage in power systems and is essential in various fields, including power transmission and distribution systems, home appliances, and industrial equipment. Generally, a transformer consists of an iron core, an inner winding, an outer winding, and a housing that protects them.
[0004] When current flows inside a transformer, a magnetic field is formed around the inner and outer windings, and the transformer operates on the principle that this magnetic field combines through the iron core to convert voltage. However, the magnetic field generated by the transformer affects the housing and surrounding components, inducing eddy currents, which can lead to unnecessary heat generation and energy loss. This heat generation not only reduces the efficiency of the transformer but also causes performance degradation and shortens the lifespan of the transformer during prolonged use.
[0005] To address this, technologies have been developed to minimize the influence of magnetic fields by placing insulators or shielding materials inside the transformer. However, most existing shielding materials consist of ferromagnetic substances that attract surrounding magnetic fields rather than shielding them. In such cases, continuous connection is required to maintain the continuity of the magnetic circuit, whereas unconnected areas emit very high magnetic fields outward, resulting in high losses. For this reason, a method is used to reduce losses by installing silicon steel sheets, typically used in cores, inside the transformer tank; however, this approach is limited and may actually exacerbate the losses.
[0006] Therefore, since the parts adjacent to the transformer in ultra-large wind power transformers are mostly made of steel, there is a need for a technology that applies a non-magnetic yet conductive shielding member to minimize electromagnetic influence inside the transformer while minimizing heat generation and improving the stability of the transformer by maximally reducing the influence on external magnetic materials to reduce eddy currents and potential rise, and shielding magnetic fields radiating outward. Specific details for implementing the invention
[0019] Preferred embodiments of the present invention are described below with reference to the attached drawings. However, embodiments of the present invention may be modified in various other forms, and the scope of the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described below. Furthermore, embodiments of the present invention are provided to more completely explain the present invention to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, the shapes and sizes of elements in the drawings may be exaggerated for clearer explanation, and elements indicated by the same reference numerals in the drawings are the same elements. Additionally, the same reference numerals are used throughout the drawings for parts having similar functions and operations. Furthermore, throughout the specification, the term "comprising" a component means that, unless specifically stated otherwise, it does not exclude other components but may include additional components.
[0021] A transformer according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a housing; an iron core disposed inside the housing; at least one inner winding wound around the iron core; an outer winding wound around the inner winding; and a shielding member disposed on the inner surface of the housing.
[0023] The housing protects internal components from the external environment and maintains the mechanical structure of the transformer. More specifically, the housing is structured to accommodate the transformer's iron core, internal windings, external windings, and shielding members, thereby ensuring the physical stability of the transformer and protecting internal components from external shocks and contaminants.
[0024] The above housing can be formed from various materials depending on the operating environment and required performance of the transformer, and can be manufactured using metal or reinforced plastic. Metal materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and steel may be used, and plastic materials such as polycarbonate (PC) or glass-filled polyimide may be applied.
[0026] It serves to strengthen the magnetic coupling between the inner and outer windings and efficiently transmit the magnetic field. The iron core is composed of a magnetic material with high permeability, which helps to effectively concentrate the magnetic field formed within the transformer. This minimizes magnetic field losses and maximizes the power conversion efficiency of the transformer.
[0028] The above inner winding and outer winding are arranged around an iron core, and the alternating current (AC) voltage applied to the inner winding forms a magnetic field, which is induced in the outer winding and converted into a different voltage.
[0029] The internal winding described above may be made of a conductive material having low electrical resistance and excellent inductive effect. In one embodiment, the internal winding may be in the form of a winding made of copper, aluminum, etc., with an insulating layer coated thereon. This is intended to prevent electrical losses occurring inside the transformer and to ensure safety.
[0030] The above-mentioned outer winding serves to output an induced voltage through the magnetic field generated in the inner winding. Like the above-mentioned inner winding, the above-mentioned outer winding may be made of a conductive material having low electrical resistance and excellent inductive effect.
[0031] The above inner and outer windings can have various shapes, such as circular coils, plate coils, and disks.
[0033] The shielding member serves to block the influence of magnetic fields generated in the inner and outer windings and to reduce unnecessary heat generation in the housing. The shielding member may be disposed on the inner surface of the housing and may be in the form of a film, a thin film, or a plate. In one embodiment, the shielding member may be in the form of a box formed integrally, while in another embodiment, it may be assembled from several separated pieces.
[0034] The shielding member may be a non-magnetic material and a conductor. In one embodiment, the shielding member may be any one of aluminum, copper, silver, and titanium.
[0035] Since the shielding member is a non-magnetic material, it can prevent magnetic fields generated in the inner and outer windings from being induced into the shielding member or housing, and can prevent magnetic loss by concentrating the flow of the magnetic field in the iron core, and can prevent the magnetic field from leaking out. In addition, since the shielding member is a conductor, it can prevent the generation of eddy currents and can block magnetic fields more effectively.
[0037] FIGS. 3 and 4 are the results of electromagnetic field analysis inside a transformer (a) without a shielding member and a transformer (b) with a shielding member. According to FIG. 3, by placing a shielding member, electromagnetic leakage to the outside can be effectively prevented and concentrated on the internal iron core.
[0039] The present invention is not limited by the embodiments described above and the attached drawings, but is intended to be limited by the appended claims. Accordingly, various substitutions, modifications, and changes may be made by those skilled in the art within the scope of the technical concept of the present invention as described in the claims, without departing from the technical spirit of the invention, and such are also to be considered to fall within the scope of the present invention.
