Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a paper supply and printout sorting system, and more specifically, to a system that enables unmanned large-scale paper supply and printout sorting by utilizing autonomous mobile robot (AMR) technology. Background Technology

[0002] The high-speed digital printer (digital production printer, digital press) market is characterized by fierce competition in technological development among companies, with many global firms such as HP, Xerox, Canon, Ricoh, and Kyocera launching products. Products recently released in the high-speed digital printer market are evolving to be sharper and faster.

[0003] Cut-sheet paper feeders, along with roll-fed paper feeders, are widely used in high-speed digital printers. The current primary method used to expand the paper feeding and output handling capacity of cut-sheet high-speed digital printers is to directly connect multiple paper tray units and output tray units in-line to the printer.

[0004] However, the method of expanding the printer by connecting many tray units inline for unmanned high-volume printing presents problems such as physical limitations on the printer installation location and increased inefficiency in paper transport.

[0005] As the software of the latest high-performance digital printers is becoming increasingly reliable, if there is a method to supply paper without limitations and autonomously organize printouts, it will become possible to create a scenario where the printer can independently perform large-scale printing tasks during nighttime hours without an operator, even after the operator has registered a large volume of print jobs on the print server in advance and left for the day. The problem to be solved

[0006] The present invention replaces the existing method of extending a paper feeder and an output sorter in-line to a printer for large-scale unmanned printing operations. Instead, multiple paper trays and output sorter trays are placed at designated indoor locations separated from the printer, and an operator has pre-loaded the paper trays with a sufficient amount of paper of each type required for night printing operations. Then, an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) performs tasks such as detaching the tray unit from the printer, attaching the tray unit to the printer, moving the tray unit, or placing the tray unit at a designated location on behalf of the operator, in accordance with the printer's instructions, thereby enabling the printer to process large-scale printing operations unmanned. means of solving the problem

[0041] FIG. 1 is a conceptual diagram illustrating an in-line expansion type system including a printer engine unit, a paper feeder unit, and an output stacker unit.

[0042] Referring to FIG. 1, an inline expansion type system (10) may include a printer engine unit (11), a paper feed unit (12), and an output sorting unit (13) connected in series with each other.

[0043] The printer engine unit (11) is one of the direct components of the printer and can provide functions for overall control of the printer and provide a user interface to the operator through a display panel. The printer engine unit (11) can integrate and manage information regarding the current status of the connected paper feed unit (12) or output sorting unit (13). The printer engine unit (11) may be referred to as a printer control system or a printer control unit.

[0044] The paper supply unit (12) may be equipped with a feeding function for aligning printing paper, lifting and lowering printing paper and transporting printing paper one sheet at a time, a function for measuring information regarding the width, length, and height of the printing paper, and a function for communicating with the printer engine unit (11). To increase the supply capacity of printing paper, a plurality of paper supply units (12) may be connected in series to a high-speed digital printer (not shown). A high-speed digital printer may refer to a high-performance digital printer for commercial printing. The paper supply method for a high-speed digital printer may be classified into cutsheet and roll paper types. The paper supply method for a high-speed digital printer according to the present disclosure may be a cutsheet type.

[0045] The output sorting unit (13) is a device that sorts the output printed paper so that it stacks neatly and can be easily used for subsequent work. At least one output sorting unit (13) can be connected to a high-speed digital printer.

[0046] Commercial printers using high-speed digital printers can produce finished products and proceed with shipment through various post-processing steps, such as cutting, binding, and bookbinding, after the printing process is complete. To ensure faster shipment, the printing process can be conducted unmanned at night.

[0047] With improvements in the reliability of high-speed digital printers and the maturity of print workflow software, long-term unattended operation of high-speed digital printers is now possible compared to the past. Print workflow software may be software that manages print jobs overall and provides various functions for the sequential execution of various print jobs and high-quality printing. As high-speed digital printers become faster, operations for feeding print paper and organizing output paper may occur more frequently. Additionally, if these operations are performed at night, an operator may be required to carry them out.

[0048] In order to efficiently perform operations for supplying printing paper and organizing output paper, an inline expansion type system (10) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be applied.

[0049] In an inline expansion type system (10), a printer engine unit (11), a paper feed unit (12), and an output sorting unit (13) can be connected in series in a predetermined direction. The printer engine unit (11) can be positioned between the paper feed unit (12) and the output sorting unit (13). The paper feed unit (12) can be positioned adjacent to a first side of the printer engine unit (11). The output sorting unit (13) can be positioned adjacent to a second side of the printer engine unit (11).

[0050] The paper supply unit (12) may include a plurality of paper supply devices connected in series. Each paper supply device must be equipped with a paper transport device that separates and transports printing paper one sheet at a time. If the number of paper supply devices connected to the printer engine unit (11) increases, the number of paper transport devices also increases, so the cost for configuring the system (10) may increase. In addition, as the paper transport distance increases, the probability of mechanical problems such as paper jams may increase. Furthermore, the physical space of the entire system (10) may increase by the number of paper supply devices connected in series, resulting in spatial constraints.

[0051] The output sorting unit (13) may include a plurality of output sorting devices connected in series. If the number of output sorting devices connected to the printer engine unit (11) increases, mechanical problems and physical spatial constraints may occur due to an increase in paper transport distance, similar to when the number of paper feed devices increases.

[0052] To solve the above problems and limitations, the present invention proposes a method and system through the following FIGS. 2 to 16, wherein a number of paper trays of a relatively simple structure, rather than an inline paper feeder and a printout sorter, are placed at a predetermined waiting location indoors, and when an operator of a printer control system requires unmanned operation such as night work or holiday work, the printer control system operates a high-speed digital printer in an unmanned manner with the necessary paper sufficiently loaded into the number of trays according to the type of paper, and the paper loaded in the number of trays or at least one of the number of trays is moved according to the printing progress status to automatically supply paper to the high-speed digital printer.

[0053] More specifically, FIGS. 2 to 5 propose a method and system using a plurality of manual paper trays and a paper transport robot that transports at least one of the plurality of manual paper trays according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIGS. 6 to 12 propose a method and system using a plurality of autonomously moving paper trays combined with a paper transport robot and a paper tray according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIGS. 13 to 16 propose a method and system using a plurality of paper cassettes and a forklift-type paper transport robot that transports at least one of the plurality of paper cassettes according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0054] FIG. 2 is a conceptual diagram illustrating an unmanned paper feeding and output sorting system for a high-speed digital printer according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0055] Referring to FIG. 2, an unmanned, unlimited paper feeding and output sorting system (100) for a high-speed digital printer may include a printer engine unit (110), a paper feeding device (120), a plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4), a plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4), and a paper transport robot (150).

[0056] More specifically, an unmanned paper feeding and output sorting system for a high-speed digital printer comprises: a printer engine unit (110) including a high-speed digital printer; a paper feeding device (120) coupled to an input terminal of the printer engine unit (110) and supplying paper to the high-speed digital printer through the input terminal; a paper tray (130) coupled to the paper feeding device (120) and loading the paper; a plurality of paper waiting trays (130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) arranged in a paper tray queue spaced apart by a predetermined distance from the paper tray (130); and an output tray (140) coupled to an output terminal of the printer engine unit (110) and loading output outputs from the high-speed digital printer through the output terminal. It may include a plurality of output waiting trays (140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) arranged in an output tray queue spaced apart by a predetermined distance from the output tray (140); and a paper transport robot (150) that transports at least one tray among the paper tray (130), the plurality of paper waiting trays (130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4), the output tray (140), and the plurality of output waiting trays (140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) based on a control signal received from the printer engine unit (110).

[0057] Each of the plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) and the plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) may be a manual tray similar to a mass paper feeder designed simply and without the ability to move on its own. For example, the manual tray may be configured as a single mass space without a paper feeding function that separates and supplies paper one sheet at a time, and whose internal space is not divided into a space for placing multiple paper cassettes. The manual tray may include a processor (not shown) that controls to align the paper loaded in the manual tray, controls to measure the total height and size of the loaded paper, and controls a lift (not shown) of the manual tray to raise and lower the loaded paper. The manual tray may transmit information regarding the quantity and size of loaded paper to the printer engine unit (110) using the transceiver (not shown).

[0058] For example, an operator (not shown) of an unmanned paper feeding and output sorting system for a high-speed digital printer can check the type and quantity of paper required for night work or holiday work through workflow software before proceeding with night work or holiday work, and then load sufficient paper into each of the multiple paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4). Each of the multiple paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) can measure the size and height of the loaded paper, generate the measured paper size and height information, and transmit it to the printer engine unit (110).

[0059] The printer engine unit (110) can determine whether the paper tray (130) needs to be replaced while the printing operation is in progress using high-speed digital printing. If the paper tray (130) needs to be replaced, the printer engine unit (110) can transmit a wireless control signal to the paper transport robot (150) to transport the paper tray (130).

[0060] A paper transport robot (150) that receives a wireless control signal from a printer engine unit (110) can enter the space at the bottom of a paper tray (130) based on the wireless control signal, lift the paper tray (130), and transport it to a predetermined paper tray queue. Additionally, the paper transport robot (150) can enter the space at the bottom of one of a plurality of paper waiting trays (130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) based on the wireless control signal, lift the paper waiting tray, and transport the paper waiting tray to be connected to a paper supply device (120).

[0061] The printer engine unit (110) can determine whether replacement of the output tray (140) is required while performing a printing operation using high-speed digital printing. If replacement of the output tray (140) is required, the printer engine unit (110) can transmit a wireless control signal instructing the paper transport robot (150) to transport the output tray (140).

[0062] A paper transport robot (150) that receives a wireless control signal from a printer engine unit (110) can enter the space at the bottom of a print tray (140) based on the wireless control signal, lift the print tray (140), and transport it to a predetermined print tray queue. Additionally, the paper transport robot (150) can enter the space at the bottom of one of a plurality of print waiting trays (140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) based on the wireless control signal, lift the one print waiting tray, and transport the one print waiting tray so that it is coupled to an output terminal (not shown) of the printer engine unit (110).

[0063] The paper feeder (120) can be coupled to a feeder (not shown) of a printer engine unit (110) and can supply paper to a high-speed digital printer through the feeder. The paper feeder (120) may include an air suction paper feeder module (not shown). The paper feeder (120) can use the air suction paper feeder module to separate multiple sheets of paper loaded in a paper tray (130) one by one and supply them to a high-speed digital printer.

[0064] A plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4), and a plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) may each have substantially the same structure or different structures. For example, each of the plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4), and the plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) may be used for both paper feeding and output organization. Alternatively, each of the plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) and the plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) may have a different structure depending on the application.

[0065] FIG. 3 is a conceptual diagram illustrating an unmanned paper feeding and output sorting system for a high-speed digital printer according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0066] Referring to FIG. 3, the paper transport robot (150) may be equipped with a battery (not shown), a visual sensor (not shown), etc., and may be a flatbed type autonomous mobile robot (AMR) equipped with a payload lifting function.

[0067] The paper transport robot (150) can enter the lower space of one of the plurality of paper trays (130, 130-1, 130-2, 130-3, 130-4) and the plurality of output trays (140, 140-1, 140-2, 140-3, 140-4) and then lift the tray using a cargo lifting function. The paper transport robot (150) can transport the lifted tray to a predetermined position.

[0068] The paper transport robot (150) can operate according to a control signal from the printer engine unit (110).
