Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of wave generators, particularly wave balls, that are placed in pools to generate movement within a liquid, particularly on its surface. More specifically, the present invention relates to such generators having an on-board autonomous energy storage unit. Background Technology

[0002] Wave generators are used for various purposes, such as maritime survival training under conditions as close to reality as possible, wave generation at water leisure centers, and the reproduction of waves in natural environments for scientific research or film production. As wave generation is relevant to different fields, generators have been continuously improved to facilitate their use and installation, and to generate waves in the most controlled manner possible while minimizing energy consumption.

[0003] Document BE1010674A3 discloses a system for generating waves on the surface of a liquid in the form of a ball that is entirely mechanical, and the system comprises two bodies that are movable relative to each other and connected together by a hydraulic device. The hydraulic device comprises a chamber in which a piston moves, and the hydraulic device is supplied with fluid by a device connected thereto by a pipe, which is not fixed to the ball. The system also comprises means for controlling the hydraulic device, and the means comprises different sensors, such as an accelerometer, a velocity sensor, or a pressure gauge, coupled to the wave ball in particular to determine variations in the movement of the ball relative to the liquid.

[0004] Document EP0521884B1 discloses a wave-generating system comprising two bodies, in which one body moves within another body. The system also includes a control system that receives a set of signals through different types of sensors to regulate the supply of a motor (e.g., via a connecting rod / crank mechanism). The system can evaluate the amplitude of the wave and measure the displacement of the bodies relative to one another. In this way, the system makes it possible to synchronize the displacement of the bodies with the movement of the wave by acting on the regulation of the motor.

[0005] The control system includes a phase control unit and a speed control unit. It may also include a unit for modifying desired values of phase difference and speed to change the motion mode of the wave (by generating variations in phase difference) or to move the device on the surface of the water. The control system may be located within the wave generator but may also be located outside of it, and then communicates with the ball via radio waves to obtain signals from different sensors.

[0006] The wave generator can be powered by batteries or solar energy and may optionally include a rechargeable battery, which can be recharged by current delivered through magnetic coupling. The problem to be solved

[0007] The present invention aims to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art and, in particular, to provide a wave generator having an onboard autonomous energy storage unit that is autonomous, efficient, and intelligent, optimizing its consumption ("ecological" system) and self-managing its recharging.

[0008] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide high-quality waves in the most autonomous manner possible. The fact that the wave generator is battery-powered greatly facilitates its placement within a pool, but it also creates new problems that need to be addressed, such as the need to minimize energy consumption to avoid excessively frequent recharging. Thanks to real-time analysis of a set of parameters, wave generation can be parameterized to ensure lower energy consumption. This also makes it possible to fit within a configuration consistent with more general energy saving issues and to limit the operating costs of such wave generators.

[0009] A second objective of the present invention is that the generator can recharge itself, in particular, in an autonomous manner with limited or no user intervention. In this way, the generation of waves is ensured without necessarily relying on human intervention.

[0010] The present invention also aims to provide various solutions for recharging a wave generator in an autonomous or semi-autonomous manner, whether in water or out of water.

[0011] Another objective of the present invention is to provide an interface that enables exchanges with a user, thereby allowing the user to characterize the type of wave desired, as well as enabling the system to provide the user with maintenance or troubleshooting information. The interface enables the control and programming of the machine.

[0012] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a solution that is easy to implement in any type of pool without requiring wired connections, special structural operations, or a machine room. The present invention must provide a solution that is fast to implement and ready for use in both installation and dismantling aspects. means of solving the problem

[0044] The present invention relates to a wave generating system intended to generate movement on the surface of a liquid (e.g., in a pool). An example of a wave generating system according to the present invention is illustrated in FIG. 1. The system comprises a wave generator (1) positioned within a liquid, the wave generator (1) comprising an outer body (2) and an inner body (3) acting as a casing, the inner body (3) being positioned inside the outer body (2). The inner body (3) acts as a movable and heavy mass, which rises and falls inside the outer body (2) at a specific frequency, thereby transferring energy to the liquid to generate waves within it. The generator (1) according to the present invention is floating and is not obligatorily fixed to the wall of the pool in which it is positioned. However, it may be maintained in a fixed position in certain cases (see the "Positioning of Wave Generator" section below).

[0045] The wave generator (1) of the present invention includes a device (4) for moving an inner body (3), causing the latter to vibrate inside an outer body (2). The moving device (4) may include a motorized system (41) that operates a connecting rod / crank system (42) that enables the inner body (3) to move, for example, as illustrated in FIG. 1 (in which case it is shown as an example in the form of a movable plate). The movement of the inner body (3) is amplified by springs (43) and guided by a central axis (44).

[0046] Onboard autonomous energy storage units (5), that is, onboard energy capacities such as batteries, are included in the wave generator (1) to provide the energy required by the mobile device (4). Alternatively, the battery may advantageously be replaced by an autonomous energy reserve (flywheel). Throughout this description, the term “onboard” means that the device, in this case the autonomous energy storage unit, is positioned on the wave generator (1) located in the liquid (whether inside the outer body (2) or fixed outside of it).

[0047] As described above, having an onboard autonomous energy storage unit has several advantages, first of all, the absence of a permanent wired connection to the wave generator (1), but this also means that the energy consumption of the generator must be minimized to avoid excessively frequent recharging. In addition, it is desirable for the generator to be able to recharge itself in an autonomous manner without user intervention.

[0048] Positioning of the wave generator

[0049] To maintain a fixed position within the pool, the wave generator (1) may include different types of positioning systems.

[0050] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the wave generator (1) may include a return system (10) (e.g., a spring, an elastic member, etc.) that connects it to one or more ballast weights (9) or one or more walls of a pool. In this case, the return system (10) may allow the wave generator (1) to be maintained near that position when the wave generator (1) moves away from an initially fixed position.

[0051] Otherwise, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the wave generator (1) may include a controlled positioning system (e.g., of the following types: GPS, radio beacons, or others) for tracking the position of the generator. This controlled positioning system includes, on the one hand, positioning beacons (11) that enable determining the position of the generator (1) within the pool, and on the other hand, at least one thruster (12) for guiding the generator (1). The thruster(s) use, for example, electric motors equipped with propellers or jet systems, which enable pumping and discharging water to maintain / move the generator (1) to a desired position. In this way, the generator (1) according to the present invention is thus "virtually" anchored to an advantage somewhere within the pool due to its position, which is continuously determined by the positioning beacons and corrected by a microprocessor that controls the thruster (12) to guide the generator (1) in the water.

[0052] Optimization of consumption

[0053] To optimize consumption, the wave generator (1) according to the present invention includes an autonomous and onboard controller, which enables characterizing the wave, determining the relative position of the generator (1) with respect to the wave, and optimizing the transfer of energy for minimum energy consumption (or minimum mechanical loss). In particular, an onboard electronic device (6) is provided, which is equipped with a set of onboard sensors (7) to determine the characteristics of the wave and the relative position of the generator (1) with respect to the wave. The onboard electronic device (6) communicates with a controller including a control system. The controller may be mounted on the wave generator (1) or located externally.

[0054] The sensors (7) are preferably of the temperature sensor and accelerometer type. Additionally, a position sensor for the crank of the connecting rod / crank system (42) and an onboard accelerometer make it possible to measure the amplitude of the waves as well as the vibration frequency of the generator (1). The control system includes an onboard or non-onboard control algorithm, which calculates an effective speed set value to be transmitted to the moving device (4) (and more precisely, for example, the motor (41)) of the inner body (3) to subtract or increase the energy transmitted to the waves. The algorithm has a control function, which enables the correction of effective parameters through a PID-type controller specifically adapted and optimized to control the wave generator (1). For this purpose, the control consists of several nested loops.

[0055] In this way, the controller enables the control system of the moving device (4) to manage the vibration of the inner body (3) in an optimized manner, that is, to generate waves by delivering energy to the liquid at the optimal time (synchronization). Knowing the relative position of the generator (1) to the waves makes it possible to optimize the delivery of energy and minimize consumption. In fact, with the devices presented above, the precision of the vibration control of the inner body (3) is such that energy is delivered only to the resonant mode that must be excited to generate waves, thus avoiding wasting energy by delivering it to other unwanted vibration modes.

[0056] Preferably, the shape of the robot will be optimized not only to accommodate the batteries but also to maximize energy transfer. Special attention is paid to both the mechanical parts and the control. The idea is to achieve very low energy consumption by limiting mechanical losses and obtaining a control that allows for minimum energy consumption.

[0057] Also preferably, the motor (41) passes through four quadrants, two of which can potentially act as energy generators by returning energy to the system. Rather than wasting this energy, the system is designed to recover this energy and reuse it during the next cycle. In this case, a device using supercapacitors or batteries enables the storage of energy for reuse during the next cycles.

[0058] Optimization of consumption is combined with a control system using a controller (6), making it possible to reliably develop such a generator (1) having an onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5).

[0059] charge

[0060] The generator (1) according to the present invention can recharge itself in an autonomous manner, and the generation of waves is guaranteed without relying on user intervention.

[0061] The main problem to be solved with respect to the wave generator (1) having an onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) is the charging system when the generator (1) is in water. The onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) can be recharged by contact or induction. In all cases, the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) is preferably kept in place in the generator (1).

[0062] The means for recharging the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) includes a charging power source (14) as well as a charger portion that allows energy transfer from the power source (14) to the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) by contact or induction. The charger portion is connected to the power source (14) by a charging cable (13) and is preferably supported by a charging plate (15). The power source (14) and the charger portion are located outside the liquid and are independent of the wave generator (1) located inside the liquid. For that portion, the onboard autonomous energy storage unit includes a receiving portion (16) for energy transfer, which is preferably fixed to the outer casing (2) of the wave generator (1). During charging, it is necessary to connect the charger portion to the receiving portion (16) to allow energy transfer from the power source (14) to the batteries (5).

[0063] Various means can be considered for connecting the charger part to the receiving part (16) of the wave generator (1).

[0064] The user will receive a warning that the generator (1) needs to be recharged via an interface (8) connected to a controller (6), and the user may move the generator (1) to a charging station containing a charging power source (14) or recharge the generator (1) by means of a charging pole (17) that the user places on the generator (1), and the generator (1) is kept in place within the pool. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the pole (17) can be used to position either a contact or an inductor for recharging. The pole (17) is height-adjustable and tiltable. A charging cable (13) is connected between the charger part and the charging power source (14).

[0065] Alternatively, the generator (1) moves on its own to a charging station located, for example, at the edge of the pool, and charges independently, and thus autonomously. This option can be anticipated if the wave generator (1) is equipped with automatic and controlled positioning for the purpose of autonomous connection.

[0066] Alternatively, a mobile charging vehicle (19) (such as a water or aerial drone type) can move to the generator (1) so that the generator (1) can be kept in place within the pool. The mobile vehicle (19) carries an induction emitter or connector connected to a charging power source (14) by a cable (13). It can move to a position positioned by a controller to recharge an onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5). The mobile vehicle (19) includes a thruster and a positioning system for moving to a remotely controlled and determined recharge position.

[0067] Safety of onboard autonomous energy storage unit systems

[0068] The wave generation system according to the present invention preferably includes a remote automatic safety shut-off, including battery safety. In practice, the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) must comply with safety standards imposed in swimming pools and water pools. Therefore, the voltage across the terminals of the energy storage system will not exceed the recommended values for intended applications. The wave generator (1) may be equipped with water presence sensors to automatically shut off the wave generator (1) in the event of water inflow. Additionally, the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) is preferably equipped with sensors connected to the fasteners to automatically shut off the wave generator (1) if the onboard autonomous energy storage unit (5) becomes loose from its fasteners.

[0069] communication

[0070] The wave generator (1) includes a communication system (20), preferably a radio, and can communicate remotely with the user through messages (user commands) and diagnostics (information / statistics regarding the use of the wave, battery charge level).

[0071] Preferably, a user interface (8) is provided so that bidirectional exchanges can occur between the wave generation system and the user, allowing the user to characterize the type of wave they want, as well as allowing the system to provide the user with maintenance or troubleshooting information.

[0072] Therefore, communication between the user and the wave generator (1) is made possible by this interface (8).

[0073] The user will have the possibility to interact with the generator (1) to modify their requests (generation of different types of waves with different amplitudes) according to their wishes, for example. The interface (8) will also enable the display of information regarding the state of the generator (1), such as its parameters, battery charge level, maintenance, and diagnosis in case of an error, as well as specific information related to the use of the waves (characterization, statistics, etc.). Sensors (7) present in the generator (1) communicate information to the user interface (8) through the controller, for example, by communication via radio waves known to those skilled in the art (e.g., Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi-Fi protocols, depending on requirements).

[0074] Communication may take place on a console provided for this purpose. The user can remotely control the robot and request information or provide commands related to the use of the generator (1). The console having the application is preferably a commercially available, user-friendly "end-user" system and is therefore a type well known to people skilled in the art and users (smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.).

[0075] Possible and additional communication systems between the user and the maintenance service can be advantageously provided to ensure remote services, which is particularly useful for fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

[0076] According to a favorable embodiment, the generator (1) can communicate with one or several other generator(s). This intelligent communication between generators within the same pool makes it possible to synchronize them or to arrange their movements to obtain a wave pattern of optimal results with lower and optimized energy.

[0077] advantage

[0078] By means of an onboard autonomous energy storage unit, the wave generation system is easy to implement in any type of pool without requiring wired connections, specialized structural work, or a machine room. The invention provides a fast-implementing and ready-to-use solution. Installation is easy because the generator is placed underwater and communicates directly with the controller via radio signals. It is a ready-to-use product that can be operational in just a few hours. The system is easy and safe to use due to the absence of cables underwater and the elimination of bulky and noisy machine rooms beneath the pool. A single bonded anchoring point is required.

[0079] The generator according to the present invention is developed to consume a minimum amount of energy while obtaining exceptional wave quality. It is autonomous and equipped with an onboard controller, which enables the system to measure waves, determine their relative position, and optimize energy transfer for minimum energy consumption. Controlling the waves ensures their quality.

[0080] This makes it possible to generate waves in any type of pool, such as training pools or public swimming pools. The type of wave varies depending on the intended use (wellness, training, leisure, movies, etc.).
