Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a method for authenticating and managing construction workers and an apparatus for doing so, and more specifically, to a method for authenticating and managing construction workers based on blockchain and an apparatus for doing so. Background Technology

[0002] The construction industry is an inherently high-risk sector, resulting in numerous accidents and casualties worldwide every year. One of the primary causes of these accidents is the deployment of unqualified workers in high-risk tasks, which stems from the failure to properly manage worker credentials. A system for effectively managing and verifying worker qualifications is essential to ensuring the safety of construction projects. However, most construction companies currently still rely on paper-based records or manual verification systems. These existing methods are time-consuming and vulnerable to issues such as loss, damage, and forgery. Manual verification processes are particularly challenging when it comes to confirming the authenticity of certificates and are highly likely to lead to situations where unqualified workers participate in high-risk tasks.

[0003] Furthermore, the existing system suffers from poor data accessibility and management efficiency due to a lack of integration among fragmented management entities, including educational institutions, employers, and regulatory bodies. Verifying worker certification information or reviewing historical records requires the cumbersome process of contacting multiple agencies. This inefficiency not only causes delays in job placement but also negatively impacts project schedules. In particular, the limitations of a system incapable of real-time qualification verification hinder immediate decision-making at the worksite and increase the risk of safety accidents.

[0004] In addition to paper-based systems, there have been attempts to manage digital certificates through centralized databases, but this approach also has inherent limitations. Centralized server-based databases are vulnerable to security threats such as hacking or data leaks, and there is a risk that the entire system will be paralyzed in the event of a server failure. Furthermore, there is the issue that data recovery is difficult if data corruption occurs. In terms of cost, the high initial implementation and maintenance costs of these digital systems limit their use, particularly for small and medium-sized construction companies. As a result, many developing countries and small-scale projects still rely on existing manual systems.

[0005] Although technologies such as smart cards and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) have been introduced, physical authentication methods can lead to problems such as card loss, theft, and data inconsistency. These methods cannot guarantee data immutability and reliability, nor can they completely rule out the possibility of forgery. Consequently, existing technologies fail to meet the essential requirements of transparency, reliability, and real-time capability needed for credential management. The problem to be solved

[0031] Figure 1 is a diagram showing an example of a certification management method for construction workers in the construction industry.

[0032] Referring to Fig. 1, in the construction industry, when a construction worker submits or transmits authentication information to a construction company, the company stores and manages the information. Since there is no system to share information about construction workers, construction companies manage this information individually. Therefore, to be granted authority for work, a construction worker must register with all specialized construction companies in their field of expertise. In other words, a construction worker must submit their information to specialized construction companies. Specialized construction companies are firms with expertise in specific fields; to be granted authority for work in a specific area of general construction, one must register with a general construction company. Consequently, a complex flow of authentication information may exist between general construction companies and specialized construction companies. Since each company stores and manages data independently, duplicate data is managed from the perspective of the construction industry as a whole, and manual authentication verification procedures can be inefficient. Furthermore, because workers' authentication information is managed across multiple systems, data consistency and reliability may be compromised, and there may be a risk of information forgery or omission. In addition, since each construction company must authenticate workers separately, excessive time and cost may be incurred.

[0033] FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a method of managing certification of construction workers in the construction industry according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0034] Referring to FIG. 2, a construction worker authentication and management system according to one embodiment of the present invention may be positioned between a general construction company and a specialized construction company. A construction worker may request registration in the system from a specialized construction company. The specialized construction company may register the construction worker in the system, and the general construction company may access the system to authenticate and manage the construction worker. According to this method, the construction company can verify authentication information in real time through a centralized, reliable data source, thereby improving management efficiency. The construction worker authentication and management system according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a digital contract (smart contract), a decentralized application, and IPFS. The construction worker authentication and management system according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail below.

[0035] FIG. 3 is a configuration diagram of a construction worker certification and management system according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0036] Referring to FIG. 3, a construction worker authentication and management system (300) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a digital contract (310), an application (320), and an IPFS (330).

[0037] A digital contract (310) may be a contract that is automatically executed when conditions are met. A digital contract (310) may be executed on a blockchain. A digital contract (310) may include functions for worker registration, storage and verification of a certificate for a worker, and granting work authority to a worker. Specifically, worker registration means that at least some of the worker's ID, name, nationality, date of birth, project information, accident information, and certificate information are registered on the blockchain. Worker registration may be performed by an administrator. The certificate may be stored in IPFS, and a unique hash value corresponding to the certificate may be recorded on the blockchain. The authenticity and integrity of the data may be guaranteed by the unique hash value recorded on the blockchain. A digital contract may grant appropriate work authority based on the authentication status of the worker's certificate. If the certificate for a worker cannot be verified, the work of that worker may be blocked.

[0038] The application (320) is an application for managers and construction workers to interact on a blockchain network without a central manager. Since there is no central manager, such an application may be referred to as a decentralized application (320). The decentralized application (320) can support user authentication and transaction signing through MetaMask. Managers can use the decentralized application (320) to register construction workers or upload certificates. Additionally, managers can use the decentralized application (320) to grant workers authority for specific tasks. The decentralized application (320) may include a function to view and verify the authentication information of construction workers in real time. Similar to digital contracts (310), the decentralized application (320) can block unauthorized construction workers from performing their tasks. Furthermore, utilizing the decentralized application (320) can simplify the management process.

[0039] IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) (330) is a decentralized system that can distribute and store files across multiple computers around the world. IPFS (330) can store large files in a decentralized manner. IPFS (330) can be used to manage certificates for the work of construction workers. When a certificate is uploaded to IPFS (330), a unique hash value can be generated. The generated unique hash value is recorded on a blockchain, allowing the location of the certificate uploaded to IPFS (330) to be tracked. This method can reduce the high gas costs incurred when storing large amounts of data on a blockchain and can verify the integrity of the data by matching the blockchain hash value with the data stored in IPFS (330). Since data is stored on a distributed network without a central server, the risk of data forgery and loss can be minimized.

[0040] FIGS. 4a and FIGS. 4b are drawings illustrating an example of a user interface related to a smart contract of a construction worker authentication and management system according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0041] Specifically, FIG. 4a is a user interface for the registration and authentication of construction workers, and FIG. 4b is a diagram showing a verification page for the authentication of construction workers. The registration and authentication of construction workers can be performed by an administrator. Verification of the authentication of construction workers can be performed by a user.

[0042] Referring to Fig. 4a, for the registration and authentication of a construction worker, personal information, project experience, specialty task, accident information, health inspection information, and authorized task information may need to be entered. The registration and authentication of a construction worker can be performed by a manager. Some of this information may be provided by the construction worker. Once the registration and authentication of a construction worker are completed, the manager can add and save the authentication date.

[0043] Referring to FIG. 4b, the construction worker certification verification page may display information about the construction worker and information about the work. Information about the construction worker may include name, nationality, date of birth, and health-related information. Information about the work may include the type of certificate, validity of the certificate, completion of training, certificate, certificate expiration date, project experience, field of expertise, and accident records. Some of this information may not be displayed if requested by the construction worker. According to one embodiment, if the construction worker has obtained multiple certificates, all of them may be displayed. Alternatively, only certificates related to the work may be displayed. Upon request, cases where the certificate expiration date has passed may also be displayed.

[0044] FIG. 5 is a flowchart illustrating a method for certifying and managing construction workers according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0045] According to one embodiment, a user who uses a device (or system) for performing a method of certifying and managing construction workers may be a user for hiring construction workers. For example, they may be a recruitment manager at a construction company or a headhunter commissioned to search for construction workers.

[0046] Referring to FIG. 5, a device performing a method for authenticating and managing construction workers can receive the ID of a construction worker and the ID of a job (S510). The ID of the construction worker may be one provided by the construction worker.

[0047] The device can verify the authenticity of certificates related to the construction worker's ID and the job ID using a smart contract (S520). The smart contract can verify information regarding certificates related to the construction worker's ID and the job ID stored in IPFS using hash values stored in the blockchain. According to one embodiment, there may be multiple certificates related to the job ID. IPFS may further store information about the construction worker and information about the job. Information about the construction worker may include at least some of name, nationality, date of birth, and health-related information. Information about the job may include at least some of education completion status, project experience, accident-related information, and field of expertise. The information stored in IPFS may be information registered by an administrator.

[0048] The device can display the verified results on the display (S530). The verified results may include whether the construction worker has received a certificate related to the work, whether the certificate is valid, whether the construction worker has the authority to perform the work, and at least some of the information about the worker.

[0049] Although it is explained in Fig. 5 that the manager directly inputs information about the construction worker, if the construction worker directly inputs information and requests registration, the manager can perform authentication and registration of the construction worker.

[0050] Although the invention has been described above with reference to embodiments, this is merely illustrative and does not limit the invention. Those skilled in the art will understand that various modifications and applications not exemplified above are possible within the scope of the essential characteristics of the embodiments. For example, each component specifically shown in the embodiments may be modified and implemented. Furthermore, differences related to such modifications and applications should be interpreted as being included within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
