Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a fabric paint composition that exhibits a color-changing effect in response to temperature and ultraviolet rays. Background Technology

[0003] Fabric-specific paint compositions are primarily used to impart color or realize designs on textile products such as clothing, bags, and shoes. Conventionally, attempts have been made to add various pigments to increase consumer interest and creative motivation, or to include additives such as gloss agents and viscosity modifiers to enhance color development. For example, in existing known technologies, fibrous materials were added to water-soluble acrylic resin or polyvinyl alcohol-based paints, as described in Korean Registered Patent No. 10-1487418, in order to increase the adhesion between the fabric and the paint while also enhancing the color rendering ability on the fiber surface.

[0004] However, these conventional paint compositions had problems such as inconsistent color or uneven pigment dispersion, resulting in color variations on the fiber surface. Furthermore, when high pigment content was added to achieve color development, the viscosity and applicability of the paint decreased, leading to poor workability when applied with a brush or sponge and persistent issues with improper color realization.

[0005] In particular, there has recently been an increasing demand for functional fabric paints that not only apply color but also change color in response to temperature or ultraviolet rays. In existing paint compositions, even when thermochromic or photochromic pigments are added to achieve these responsive color-changing characteristics, there has been a problem where the color change appears uneven due to the pigments failing to distribute uniformly on the fiber surface or aggregating.

[0006] Accordingly, the inventors have optimized the formulation of each component of a fabric paint composition and included a specific combination of dispersants to ensure that pigments are uniformly dispersed within the paint, thereby enabling stable and uniform color changes on the fiber surface under varying temperature and UV conditions. Furthermore, by appropriately adjusting the viscosity and applicability of the paint, the inventors aim to provide a paint composition that allows for even color development when applied with a brush and enables users to easily express their desired designs. [0024] Embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail below so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the invention, but the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described herein.

[0025] Furthermore, terms or words used in the specification and claims of the present invention are not limited to their ordinary or dictionary meanings, and must be interpreted in a meaning and concept consistent with the technical spirit of the present invention, based on the principle that the inventor can appropriately define the concept of the terms to best describe his invention.

[0027] The present invention provides a fabric paint composition that exhibits a color-changing effect in response to temperature and ultraviolet rays.

[0028] In one embodiment of the present invention, a paint composition can be provided that includes a water-soluble acrylic resin; polyvinyl alcohol; a thermochromic pigment; a photochromic pigment; a dispersant; and a solvent, wherein the above components are included in a specific mixing ratio and a dispersant combined with a specific substance is included, thereby providing a paint composition that can provide excellent usability to consumers by achieving a uniform color change while possessing a unique aesthetic quality of changing color in response to temperature or ultraviolet changes and excellent adhesion to fabric.

[0029] At this time, the above 'paint composition' can be used for various purposes, such as stationery, industrial use, repair, production of artworks, and other creative activities.

[0031] Below, I will explain each component in detail.

[0033] The above-mentioned water-soluble acrylic resin serves as a basic binder and base component for the paint, fixing the pigment onto the fiber surface and providing durability and flexibility after drying. Generally, polyurethane resin is sometimes used in addition to water-soluble acrylic resin in fabric paint compositions; however, in this embodiment, the use of water-soluble acrylic resin ensures superior pigment dispersibility and improved adhesion to the fabric.

[0034] For example, the above water-soluble acrylic resin may be a standard acrylic emulsion (acrylic polymer dispersed in water), a flexible acrylic emulsion, a fiber-friendly modified acrylic, a polyurethane-mixed acrylic, and a low-viscosity acrylic emulsion, but is not limited thereto.

[0036] The above-mentioned polyvinyl alcohol enables the fabric paint composition to achieve stable adhesion to the fiber while simultaneously improving water resistance. In addition, this polyvinyl alcohol controls the viscosity of the paint composition and provides flexibility.

[0037] The paint composition of the present embodiment may contain 5 to 10 parts by weight, specifically 7 to 10 parts by weight, of the polyvinyl alcohol with respect to 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin.

[0038] If the paint composition of the present embodiment contains less than 5 parts by weight of polyvinyl alcohol per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the adhesion of the paint composition to the fiber is reduced, causing the paint to peel off easily, and the dispersibility of the pigment is reduced, resulting in a problem where the color is not developed uniformly. On the other hand, if the paint composition of the present embodiment contains more than 10 parts by weight of polyvinyl alcohol per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the kneading and coating properties of the paint are significantly reduced, and the pigment may instead aggregate, making it difficult to develop a uniform color.

[0040] The thermochromic pigment described above is a material that exhibits color change characteristics according to temperature changes. Specifically, in this embodiment, a reversible thermochromic pigment that exhibits color change at 25°C to 30°C may be used, but is not limited thereto. In particular, in this embodiment, by using a thermochromic pigment that exhibits color change characteristics at 25°C to 30°C, specifically 27°C to 29°C, the difference between the color when stored at room temperature and the color when touched by a person's hands while working can be made clear, thereby further highlighting the aesthetic distinctiveness.

[0041] However, the above thermochromic pigment is not particularly limited, and any known type of thermochromic pigment that exhibits the characteristic of changing color at the corresponding temperature may be applied.

[0042] The paint composition of the present embodiment may contain 10 to 20 parts by weight, specifically 15 to 20 parts by weight, of the thermochromic pigment with respect to 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin.

[0043] If the paint composition of the present embodiment contains less than 10 parts by weight of the thermochromic pigment per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, it may be difficult to clearly observe a color change due to temperature. On the other hand, if the paint composition of the present embodiment contains more than 20 parts by weight of the thermochromic pigment per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the softness, kneading ability, moldability, and usability of the paint are generally reduced, and the pigment may not be uniformly dispersed, resulting in aggregation, uneven discoloration, etc.

[0045] The above-mentioned photochromic pigment is a substance that exhibits color-changing characteristics depending on whether ultraviolet rays are irradiated. Specifically, it may be a reversible photochromic pigment having the characteristic of changing color from an existing first color to another second color when exposed to sunlight or ultraviolet rays. The above-mentioned photochromic pigment is not particularly limited, and any known type of photochromic pigment that exhibits the characteristic of changing color under sunlight or ultraviolet irradiation conditions may be applied.

[0046] In particular, in this embodiment, by including both thermochromic pigment and photochromic pigment, changes in ultraviolet conditions as well as temperature can be visually confirmed, thereby further highlighting aesthetic differentiation.

[0047] The paint composition of the present embodiment may contain 10 to 20 parts by weight, specifically 15 to 20 parts by weight, of the photochromic pigment with respect to 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin.

[0048] If the paint composition of the present embodiment contains less than 10 parts by weight of the photochromic pigment per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, it may be difficult to clearly observe the color change depending on whether ultraviolet rays are irradiated. On the other hand, if the paint composition of the present embodiment contains more than 20 parts by weight of the photochromic pigment per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the softness, kneading ability, moldability, and usability of the paste may be generally reduced, and the pigment may not be uniformly dispersed, resulting in aggregation or uneven discoloration.

[0050] The above-mentioned dispersant can serve to prevent the aggregation of pigment particles within the paint composition and to ensure uniform dispersion. In particular, the main feature of the paint composition of this embodiment is that it improves the dispersibility of pigments by including a high content of thermochromic pigments and photochromic pigments in addition to the pigments and colorants basically included in the paint. This dispersant allows the pigments to spread uniformly within the paint composition, thereby minimizing color variation and enabling vivid color development, while also controlling the viscosity and kneading properties of the paint composition to alleviate stickiness to the hands during use and improve workability.

[0051] In this embodiment, one or more dispersants selected from the group consisting of polysorbate 80, hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and potassium stearate may be included.

[0052] Specifically, in this embodiment, polysorbate 80, hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and potassium stearate may be included as dispersants, and when all four of the above components are included, significantly excellent dispersibility is achieved, and at the same time, uniform color development, prevention of aggregation, and increased usability of the dough can be achieved.

[0053] More specifically, in this embodiment, polysorbate 80, hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and potassium stearate are included as dispersants, and these may be included in a weight ratio of 1:0.7 to 0.9:0.1 to 1:1. In this case, the above-mentioned effects may be further enhanced.

[0054] More specifically, in this embodiment, polysorbate 80, hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and potassium stearate are included as dispersants, and these may be included in a weight ratio of 1:0.9:0.5 to 1:1. In this case, the above-mentioned effects may be significantly superior.

[0055] The paint composition of the present embodiment may include 7 to 12 parts by weight, specifically 10 to 12 parts by weight, of a dispersant as described above relative to 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin.

[0056] If the paint composition of the present embodiment contains less than 7 parts by weight of the dispersant per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the dispersibility of thermochromic pigments, photochromic pigments, and other pigments and dyes is reduced, making it difficult to achieve a uniform color change. Furthermore, due to the aggregation or clumping of pigments and dyes, not only is the discoloration and color development efficacy reduced, but the spreadability, coating ability, usability, and adhesion to fabric of the paint composition may all be reduced. On the other hand, if the paint composition of the present embodiment contains more than 12 parts by weight of the dispersant per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the viscosity and hardness of the paint composition are reduced, so the paint composition does not adhere sufficiently to the fabric, resulting in a significant reduction in adhesion and a reduction in color development.

[0058] The aforementioned solvent serves to maintain the paint in a liquid state, enabling it to be applied using a brush, sponge, airbrush, etc. As this solvent evaporates during the drying process, the pigment and resin can adhere to the fabric.

[0059] The above solvent may include, but is not limited to, one or more selected from the group consisting of water, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, glycerin, ethylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether. Any known component applicable to a paint composition may be used as the solvent.

[0060] The paint composition of the present embodiment may contain 80 to 100 parts by weight, specifically 90 to 100 parts by weight, of the solvent with respect to 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin.

[0061] If the paint composition of the present embodiment contains less than 80 parts by weight of the solvent per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the viscosity of the paint may increase excessively, resulting in reduced applicability, usability, and spreadability, and aggregation of the pigment may occur. On the other hand, if the paint composition of the present embodiment contains more than 100 parts by weight of the solvent per 100 parts by weight of the water-soluble acrylic resin, the drying time of the paint composition may become excessively long, and there may be a problem in that the adhesion of the paint composition to the fabric is significantly reduced.

[0063] The above paint composition may further include known inorganic pigments, organic pigments, or a mixture thereof.

[0064] Specifically, the paint composition may further include, but is not limited to, an inorganic pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, barium chromate, cobalt blue, and antimony sulfide; an organic pigment selected from the group consisting of phthalocyanine blue, quinacridone red, benzidine yellow, and azo yellow; or a mixture thereof.

[0066] The paint composition of the present embodiment may further include known additives for the purpose of improving the discoloration characteristics, usability, spreadability, adhesion, moldability, etc. of the paint composition, in addition to the components described above. In this case, the additives may include one or more selected from the group consisting of wetting agents, dispersion stabilizers, viscosity modifiers, antioxidants, defoaming agents, and gloss agents, but are not limited thereto.

[0068] As mentioned above, the paint composition of this embodiment is in a thin and flowable paste state under room temperature conditions, and has the characteristic of hardening when the temperature is raised or dried.

[0069] In particular, unlike conventional paint compositions, the paint composition of the present embodiment includes thermochromic pigments and photochromic pigments, and thus, when applied to the surface of a fabric, it exhibits a color-changing effect in response to temperature and ultraviolet rays, thereby realizing various color changes, and thus can have excellent aesthetic distinctiveness.

[0071] The fabric paint composition of the present invention, which exhibits a color-changing effect in response to temperature and ultraviolet rays, will be described in detail below through examples, comparative examples, and experimental examples. These examples are merely illustrative of the present invention, and therefore, the scope of the present invention should not be interpreted as being limited by these examples.

[0107] According to Table 5, it can be seen that the paint composition according to Example 1 has excellent adhesion, whereas the paint compositions of Comparative Examples 1 to 13 have significantly lower adhesion compared to the example. This means that the paint composition according to the present example has excellent adhesion to fabric.

[0109] Experimental Example 2: Confirmation of Uniform Color Change

[0110] After preparing a white fabric fiber of a certain size (5 cm in width and 5 cm in length), 20 g of the paint composition according to the example and comparative example was uniformly applied to the fabric fiber.

[0111] Afterwards, the initial color was observed at room temperature (approx. 22 to 25°C). Then, the indoor temperature was raised so that the temperature of the paint composition would be 30°C or higher, and the color change was observed by irradiating ultraviolet light using a UV lamp. At this time, the color change was confirmed by visual observation about 10 minutes after the temperature and ultraviolet conditions were changed.

[0112] Meanwhile, when preparing the composition, a thermochromic pigment that is red at room temperature and turns colorless at 30°C or higher was used, and a photochromic pigment that is red when not exposed to ultraviolet rays and turns colorless when exposed to ultraviolet rays was used, thereby facilitating the experiment by using a color that changes from 'red → colorless' depending on changes in temperature and ultraviolet conditions.

[0114] When the color changed uniformly on all sides through visual observation, it was marked with ○; when the color did not change uniformly on all sides and some uncolored areas or pigment aggregation areas remained, it was marked with △; and when the color change was uneven overall and pigment aggregation was excessive, it was marked with X, and the results are shown in Table 6.

[0118] According to Table 6, it can be seen that the paint composition according to the present embodiment exhibits uniform and stable discoloration in all aspects. On the other hand, in the case of Comparative Examples 1 to 13, which do not follow the present embodiment, it can be seen that uniform and stable discoloration in all aspects is not achieved due to a decrease in the dispersibility of the pigment and a decrease in the miscibility between the components, resulting in a significant deterioration of the discoloration characteristics.

[0120] The embodiments described above are exemplary in all respects and should be understood as not limiting. Furthermore, the scope of the invention is defined by the claims set forth below rather than by the detailed description above, and all modifications or variations derived from the meaning and scope of the claims and equivalents thereof should be interpreted as being included within the scope of the invention.
