Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device and a method for driving the same. Background Technology
[0002] Generally, repeaters can be deployed to cover radio dead zones or in areas where the installation cost of base stations is burdensome, thereby improving the quality of mobile communication services in those areas. In particular, repeaters are used to resolve dead zones and improve communication quality in small-scale indoor environments such as shops and offices.
[0003] In this regard, repeaters can be classified into wired repeaters connected to base stations via wires such as optical cables and wireless repeaters connected to base stations via RF signals. Wired repeaters can maintain good call quality because communication between the repeater and the base station is conducted via wires; however, they have the disadvantage of incurring higher costs compared to wireless repeaters, as well as high installation and associated rental costs.
[0004] In contrast, wireless repeaters have the advantages of being easy to install and having relatively low installation and operating costs because communication between the repeater and the base station is conducted wirelessly. Furthermore, they can be more useful than expensive wired repeaters in cases where the area covered by the repeater is small due to electromagnetic shielding by structures, such as in the basement of a building.
[0005] Meanwhile, if a wireless repeater is installed in an open area rather than inside a building, the transmission signal from the repeater's transmitting antenna is fed back to the receiving antenna and mixed with the original receiving signal, causing signal interference or oscillation, which not only degrades the quality of service but can also, in severe cases, cause base station failure. Due to these problems, wireless repeaters have historically been used only in limited locations, such as basements inside buildings as described above.
[0006] To resolve these problems, technology capable of eliminating interference in feedback signals has emerged, and a wireless repeater equipped with such technology is called an Interference Cancellation System (ICS) repeater.
[0007] However, the development of interference cancellation algorithms applicable to wireless repeaters (RF repeaters) that have multiple transmitting (output port) antennas and receiving (input) antennas and relay signals using the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) method is currently insufficient.

[0019] In addition, the phase adjustment unit can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas so as to reduce the isolation between the second antenna and the fourth antenna.
[0020] In addition, the phase adjustment unit can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas so as to increase the isolation between the second antenna and the third antenna.
[0021] In addition, the phase adjustment unit can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas so as to increase the isolation between the first antenna and the fourth antenna.

[0037] The present invention relates to a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device and a method for driving the same.
[0038] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of a repeater system including a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0042] FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a conceptual diagram for explaining the donor section and service section of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, FIG. 2(a) is a front view of an ICS repeater device (100), FIG. 2(b) is a rear view of an ICS repeater device (100), and FIG. 2(c) is a bottom view of an ICS repeater device (100).
[0043] Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, the ICS repeater device (100) may include a donor unit (110) comprising a plurality of donor antennas (111, 112) configured to receive an input signal, and a service unit (150) comprising a plurality of service antennas (151, 152) configured to output an output signal.
[0044] In this regard, referring to FIG. 3, the donor section (110) and the service section (150) may be positioned opposite each other with respect to the body section of the ICS repeater device (100). For example, assuming that the direction from 2 o'clock to 8 o'clock is the width direction of the body section of the ICS repeater device (100) based on the details shown in FIG. 3, the donor section (110) and the service section (150) may each be positioned to face each other at one end and the other end of the width direction of the body section of the ICS repeater device (100).
[0045] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the ICS repeater device (100) may include an interference removal unit (120) that generates an interference removal signal by removing interference and overlap components from an input signal applied through a donor antenna (111, 112), and the service antenna (151, 152) of the service unit (150) may output an output signal based on the interference removal signal.
[0046] In this regard, the interference cancellation unit (120) may be a component that performs the function of an Interference Cancellation System (ICS) by retransmitting the original signal as is when an input signal (e.g., RF signal, etc.) transmitted from a base station device (200) is received, thereby removing (preventing oscillation) interference signals that are re-entered into the receiving antenna. For example, the interference cancellation unit (120) may remove interference signals by applying Digital Signal Processor (DSP) based technology, but is not limited thereto.
[0047] More specifically, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the interference removal unit (120) may include, in detail, a donor antenna switch module (not shown) that switches an input signal (base station signal) received from a donor antenna (111, 112) to a forward input amplifier and a reverse output amplifier, a service antenna switch module (not shown) that switches a signal of a user terminal (300) matched from a service antenna (151, 152) to a forward output amplifier and a reverse input amplifier, a forward feedback signal removal module (not shown) that removes a forward feedback signal between a forward input amplifier and a forward output amplifier, and a reverse feedback signal removal module (not shown) that removes a reverse feedback signal between a reverse input amplifier and a reverse output amplifier.
[0048] Here, the donor antenna switch module (not shown) can receive a synchronization signal from a synchronization signal providing module (not shown) and operate to switch the donor antenna (111, 112) to a forward input amplifier during the downlink signal transmission period (downlink time) and switch the donor antenna (111, 112) to a reverse output amplifier during the uplink signal transmission period.
[0049] Additionally, the service antenna switch module (not shown) receives a synchronization signal from the synchronization signal providing module (not shown) and switches the service antenna (151, 152) to a forward output amplifier during the downlink signal transmission period (downlink time) and switches the service antenna (151, 152) to a reverse input amplifier during the uplink signal transmission period (uplink time).
[0050] Here, the donor antenna switch module (not shown) can receive frequency bandwidth information from the bandwidth control module (not shown) and control the bandwidth of the filter that passes the base station signal (input signal) included inside the donor antenna switch module. Additionally, the service antenna switch module (not shown) can receive frequency bandwidth information from the bandwidth control module of the control unit and control the bandwidth of the filter that passes the base station signal included inside the donor antenna switch module.
[0051] In addition, the forward feedback signal removal module (not shown) of the interference removal unit (120) can receive frequency bandwidth information from the bandwidth control module and control the bandwidth of the filter that passes the base station signal by varying the processing speed of the digital circuit included inside the forward feedback signal removal module.
[0052] In addition, the reverse feedback signal removal module (not shown) of the interference removal unit (120) can receive frequency bandwidth information from the bandwidth control module of the control unit and vary the processing speed of the digital circuit included inside the reverse feedback signal removal module to control the bandwidth of the filter that passes the signal of the terminal.
[0053] Here, the forward feedback signal removal module (not shown) of the interference removal unit (120) receives frequency bandwidth information from the bandwidth control module and can control the frequency bandwidth by varying the coefficients of the filter that passes the base station signal of the digital circuit included inside the forward feedback signal removal module (not shown).

[0055] FIG. 4 is a conceptual diagram showing a cross-pole type antenna arrangement structure of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0056] Referring to FIG. 4, a plurality of donor antennas provided in the donor section (110) may include a first antenna (111) and a second antenna (112) arranged in a cross-pole shape. Also, referring to FIG. 4, a plurality of service antennas provided in the service section (150) may include a third antenna (151) and a fourth antenna (152) arranged in a cross-pole shape.
[0057] In other words, the ICS repeater device (100) disclosed herein may be a 2T2R-based Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO)-based repeater that provides RF input / output ports including two ports each on the donor / service side, and may operate to transmit and receive downlink signals from a base station device (200) using two channels (two systems) and to transmit and receive uplink signals from a user terminal (300) using two channels (two systems).
[0058] FIG. 5 is a conceptual diagram illustrating the polarization settings between antennas of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0059] Referring to FIG. 5, the ICS repeater device (100) disclosed herein may be configured such that the polarization of at least some of the plurality of donor antennas (111, 112) of the donor section (110) and at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152) of the service section (150) is perpendicular.
[0060] For example, referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, a first antenna (111) forming a first port (Port #1) of a donor unit (110) and a second antenna (112) forming a second port (Port #2) are vertically arranged in an X shape so as to form 90 degrees relative to each other with respect to the plane direction of the donor unit (110), wherein the first antenna (111) is a vertically polarized ('V') antenna and the second antenna (112) is a horizontally polarized ('H') antenna, a third antenna (151) forming a third port (Port #3) of a service unit (150) and a fourth antenna (114) forming a fourth port (Port #4) are vertically arranged in an X shape so as to form 90 degrees relative to each other with respect to the plane direction of the service unit (150), just like the donor unit (110). Multiple donor / service antennas can be designed such that the third antenna (151) is a vertically polarized ('V') antenna and the fourth antenna (152) is a horizontally polarized ('H') antenna.
[0061] According to this, the polarization of the first antenna (111) and the second antenna (112) is mutually orthogonal, and the polarization of the third antenna (151) and the fourth antenna (152) is mutually orthogonal, and the isolation characteristics between the donor / service antennas can be optimized.
[0062] Meanwhile, in the case of an ICS repeater device (100) which is a 2T2R type MIMO repeater, the phase of the donor / service antennas must be adjusted in real time so that their polarizations are mutually orthogonal, and for this purpose, the isolation of four paths between the donor / service antennas, including the first antenna (111) to the fourth antenna (152), must be measured and optimized in real time.
[0063] FIG. 6 is a conceptual diagram illustrating the isolation characteristics between antennas of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0064] Referring to FIG. 6, the ICS repeater device (100) may include a phase adjustment unit (140) that adjusts the phase of at least some of the service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation characteristics of a reference path defined by at least some of the donor antennas (111, 112) and at least some of the service antennas (151, 152) satisfy a preset isolation condition.
[0065] Specifically, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the third antenna (151) is reduced. Here, the fact that the phase adjustment unit (140) reduces the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the third antenna (151) can be understood as adjusting the phase of the service antenna so that the ISO (11), which is the reference path between the first antenna (111) and the third antenna (151), becomes the minimum (Min).
[0066] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the fourth antenna (152) is reduced. Here, the fact that the phase adjustment unit (140) reduces the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the fourth antenna (152) can be understood as adjusting the phase of the service antenna so that the ISO (22), which is the reference path between the second antenna (112) and the fourth antenna (152), becomes the minimum.
[0067] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the third antenna (151) increases. Here, the fact that the phase adjustment unit (140) increases the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the third antenna (151) can be understood as adjusting the phase of the service antenna so that the ISO (12), which is the reference path between the second antenna (112) and the third antenna (151), becomes the maximum.
[0068] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the fourth antenna (152) increases. Here, the fact that the phase adjustment unit (140) increases the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the fourth antenna (152) can be understood as adjusting the phase of the service antenna so that the ISO (21), which is the reference path between the first antenna (111) and the fourth antenna (152), becomes maximum.
[0069] Meanwhile, in order to control the phase adjustment unit (140) so that the isolation characteristics of these reference paths satisfy the aforementioned predetermined trends (ISO (11) = Min, ISO (12) = Max, ISO (21) = Max, ISO (22) = Min), the ICS repeater device (100) may be equipped with an isolation measurement unit (130) that calculates the isolation degree corresponding to each reference path.
[0070] In this regard, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the isolation measurement unit (130) may operate to calculate the isolation degree using the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing) symbol of the SSB (Synchronization Signal Block) signal, because if a signal from a different section is used, the variation of the signal within the unit section is relatively large, so a large deviation occurs in the value of the measured isolation degree.
[0071] Specifically, the isolation measurement unit (130) can independently calculate the isolation level (ISO) for four reference paths associated with the Interference Cancellation System (ICS) function of the ICS repeater device (100). At this time, the Interference Cancellation System (ICS) performance of the ICS repeater device (100) can be evaluated as eliminating feedback on the input level of the base station signal with maximum gain, and can be derived based on the following Equations 1 and 2.
[0072] [Equation 1]
[0073]
[0074] [Equation 2]
[0075]
[0076] Here, G is the maximum gain, ISO(I) is the isolation level, and the deviation for the isolation level range according to Equation 2 above can be pre-set as ±dB, etc.
[0077] FIG. 7 is a block diagram showing the internal circuit structure of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0078] Referring to FIG. 7, the ICS repeater device (100) disclosed herein can individually calculate (detect) isolation for four reference paths and adjust the phase of the service antenna through a pre-phase adjustment block (141) so that the polarization of the donor antenna and the polarization of the server antenna are orthogonal, and accordingly, ISO (11) and ISO (22) can be minimized and ISO (12) and ISO (21) can be maximized.
[0079] In this regard, for ISO (11) and ISO (22) to be minimized, the polarization between the antennas forming the reference path must be orthogonal to each other, and the minimization of ISO (11) and ISO (22) means that ISO (12) and ISO (21) are maximized, and since there is no path corresponding to this in the actual repeater, it does not cause oscillation, and for example, by adjusting the polarization of the donor antenna and the service antenna as shown in FIG. 5 above through the pre-phase adjustment block (141), the isolation (ISO) of the two paths (i.e., ISO (11), ISO (22)) can be minimized.
[0080] Additionally, referring to FIG. 7, the isolation measuring unit (130) may be composed of a plurality of sub-modules including a first measuring unit (131a) for measuring the isolation degree of ISO (11), a second measuring unit (131b) for measuring the isolation degree of ISO (21), a third measuring unit (132a) for measuring the isolation degree of ISO (22), and a fourth measuring unit (132b) for measuring the isolation degree of ISO (12).
[0081] Additionally, referring to FIG. 7, the ICS repeater device (100) may be equipped with an equalizer (113), which is a compensation circuit for improving the frequency characteristics of an input signal (base station signal) applied to a donor antenna (111, 112) at the front end of an isolation measurement unit (130). Specifically, the equalizer (113) may include a first equalizer (113a) that is cascade-connected sequentially with a first measurement unit (131a) and a second measurement unit (131b), and a second equalizer (113b) that is cascade-connected sequentially with a third measurement unit (132a) and a fourth measurement unit (132b), but is not limited thereto.
[0082] Hereinafter, with reference to FIGS. 8a to 8c, an embodiment of a MIMO-based ICS repeater device (100) having a plurality of donor / service antennas of 2T2R or more will be described.
[0083] FIGS. 8a to 8c are conceptual diagrams for explaining an antenna arrangement structure according to the number of ports of a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0084] Specifically, FIG. 8a is a conceptual diagram exemplarily showing the donor / service antenna structure of a 4T4Rx ICS repeater device (100) according to the first embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 8b is a conceptual diagram exemplarily showing the donor / service antenna structure of a 4T4R ICS repeater device (100) according to the second embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 8c is a conceptual diagram exemplarily showing the donor / service antenna structure of an ICS repeater device (100) of 4T4Rx or higher according to the third embodiment of the present invention.
[0085] Referring to FIG. 8a, according to the first embodiment of the present invention, for the implementation of 4T4Rx, a pair of antenna modules including a first antenna and a second antenna are mutually perpendicular with respect to the plane direction of the donor part (110) and have different polarization characteristics determined as vertically polarized or horizontally polarized, respectively, and a pair of antenna modules including a third antenna and a fourth antenna are mutually perpendicular with respect to the plane direction of the service part (150) and have different polarization characteristics determined as vertically polarized or horizontally polarized, respectively, may be provided on the service part (150) side.
[0086] Additionally, referring to FIG. 8a, an antenna structure can be applied such that the first antenna and the second antenna included in a pair of antenna modules on the donor part (110) side are arranged such that the angle between them and the angle between them are 45 degrees, and the third antenna and the fourth antenna included in a pair of antenna modules on the service part (150) side are arranged such that the angle between them and the angle between them are 45 degrees, thereby relatively preventing interference between antennas within the donor part (110) and relatively preventing interference between antennas within the service part (150).
[0087] Additionally, referring to FIG. 8b, according to the second embodiment of the present invention, for the implementation of 4T4R, a pair of antenna modules including a first antenna and a second antenna are provided on the side of the donor part (110), wherein the first antenna and the second antenna are mutually perpendicular with respect to the plane direction of the donor part (110) and their polarization characteristics are determined differently as vertically polarized or horizontally polarized, respectively, and the pair of antenna modules are spaced apart so as to be spatially separated from each other, and likewise, a pair of antenna modules including a third antenna and a fourth antenna are provided on the side of the service part (150), wherein the third antenna and the fourth antenna are mutually perpendicular with respect to the plane direction of the service part (150) and their polarization characteristics are determined differently as vertically polarized or horizontally polarized, respectively, and the pair of antenna modules are spaced apart so as to be spatially separated from each other, thereby relatively preventing interference between antennas within the donor part (110). An antenna structure can be applied to relatively prevent interference between antennas within the service section (150).
[0088] Additionally, referring to FIG. 8c, according to the third embodiment of the present invention, for implementing a MIMO repeater including 4T4R or more multiple ports, an antenna structure may be applied such that the arrangement angle between individual unit antennas included to correspond to each other in a pair of antenna modules provided on each donor / service side is designed to be at least partially different, thereby relatively preventing interference between antennas within the donor section (110) and relatively preventing interference between antennas within the service section (150).
[0089] Below, an experimental example linked with an ICS repeater device (100) will be described with reference to FIGS. 9a to 9c.
[0090] Specifically, FIG. 9a is a graph showing the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #2 in an ICS repeater device (100) according to the antenna structure described above, FIG. 9b is a graph showing the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #3 shown in a simulation, and FIG. 9c is a graph showing the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #4 shown in a simulation.
[0091] Referring to Fig. 9a, the simulation results showed that the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #2 was 24.6 dB at 3.7 GHz, referring to Fig. 9b, the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #3 was 55.3 dB at 3.6 GHz, and referring to Fig. 9c, the isolation level (ISO) between Port #1 and Port #4 was 68.3 dB at 3.7 GHz.
[0092] Combining Figures 9a to 9c, the simulation results show that the isolation is maximized to 68.3 dB when the polarization of the donor / service antenna is orthogonal, and even if the donor / service antenna maintains vertical polarization, the isolation in other reference paths can drop to 55.3 dB, which is more than 13 dB lower. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the isolation characteristics of the donor / service antenna must capture not only vertical polarization but also horizontal polarization.
[0093] FIG. 10 is an operation flowchart of a driving method for a multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0094] The driving method of the multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device illustrated in FIG. 10 can be performed by the ICS repeater device (100) described above. Therefore, even if the content described below is omitted, the description of the ICS repeater device (100) can be equally applied to the description of the driving method of the multi-input multi-output ICS repeater device.

[0096] Referring to FIG. 10, in step S11, the donor unit (110) can receive an input signal through a plurality of donor antennas (111, 112).
[0097] Next, in step S12, the interference removal unit (120) can generate an interference removal signal by removing interference and overlap components from the input signal.
[0098] Next, in step S13, the isolation measuring unit (130) can calculate the isolation degree corresponding to each reference path defined by at least some of the plurality of donor antennas (111, 112) and at least some of the plurality of service antennas (151, 152).
[0099] In this regard, according to one embodiment of the present invention, in step S13, the isolation measurement unit (130) can calculate the isolation degree of each reference path using the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing) symbol of the SSB (Synchronization Signal Block) signal.
[0100] Next, in step S14, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the service antennas (151, 152) so that the isolation characteristics of the reference path satisfy the preset isolation conditions.
[0101] For example, in step S14, the phase adjustment unit (140) can adjust the phase of at least some of the service antennas (151, 152) according to a preset isolation condition such that the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the third antenna (151) is minimized, the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the fourth antenna (152) is minimized, the isolation between the second antenna (112) and the third antenna (151) is maximized, and the isolation between the first antenna (111) and the fourth antenna (152) is maximized.
[0102] Next, in step S15, the service unit (150) can output an output signal based on an interference removal signal using a plurality of service antennas (151, 152).
