Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a grass growth composition having herbicidal activity and a grass replacement method using the same. More specifically, the invention relates to a grass growth composition having herbicidal activity and a grass replacement method that uses the same to easily remove existing grass without the need for chemical herbicides and improve the root development of newly planted grass, thereby reducing the time and cost required for grass replacement. Background Technology

[0002] Generally, the grass commonly used on golf courses can be broadly classified into warm-season grass (Korean grass) and cool-season grass (Western grass). Types of warm-season grass include Korean grass and Bermuda grass, while types of cool-season grass include bentgrass, fescue, bluegrass, and ryegrass.

[0003] In the past, high-end golf courses mainly used cool-season grass. This is because the aforementioned cool-season grass is resistant to cold and maintains its green color even at temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius. However, as Korea's climate has recently become increasingly hot and humid due to climate change, it is becoming difficult for the aforementioned cool-season grass to maintain good condition throughout the year.

[0004] Accordingly, there has recently been an increasing trend among golf courses to replace conventional cool-season grass with warm-season Korean grass in order to fundamentally resolve these issues and reduce course maintenance costs. The aforementioned warm-season Korean grass adapts well to the Korean climate and is particularly resistant to hot and humid summer weather. It has strong, deep roots that do not die easily even when trampled, consumes less water, and is resistant to pests and diseases, giving it the advantage of lower maintenance costs compared to Western grass.

[0005] Generally, turf replacement involves excavating the existing grass, disposing of the excavated material as waste, leveling the excavated area, and then planting new grass. However, when turf is managed in this manner, heavy rain or difficult maintenance conditions cause the grass to die and the ground to harden. If it rains in this state, poor drainage leads to other areas becoming waterlogged, making course maintenance extremely difficult. Furthermore, hardened ground not only hinders drainage but also exacerbates the problem of pathogens becoming chronic due to the influence of thatch layers accumulated over years.

[0006] Consequently, there is a need for a new method that facilitates turf replacement and the growth and maintenance of the replaced grass. Prior art literature

Specific details for implementing the invention

[0023] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail. However, these are presented as examples, and embodiments according to the concept of the present invention may be implemented in various forms and should not be interpreted as being limited to the embodiments described herein.

[0024] In addition, embodiments according to the concept of the present invention may be subject to various modifications and may take various forms. However, this is not intended to limit the embodiments according to the concept of the present invention to a specific disclosed form, and it should be understood that they include all modifications, equivalents, and substitutions that fall within the spirit and scope of the present invention.

[0026] One aspect of the present invention provides a grass growth composition.

[0027] A grass growth composition according to one embodiment of the present invention may comprise, per 100 parts by weight of water, 1 to 30 parts by weight of fine wood vinegar powder, 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of illite, 0.01 to 15 parts by weight of discarded oyster shells, 0.01 to 15 parts by weight of diatomite, 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of sodium alginate, 0.01 to 15 parts by weight of burdock extract, 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of coral calcium mineral, and 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a microbial mixture.

[0029] The above-mentioned fine wood vinegar powder plays a role in improving the sterilization effect and the effective proliferation of microorganisms. Specifically, wood vinegar consists of 80-90% water and the remainder of 10-20% organic compounds, and is generally an acidic aqueous solution with a pH of about 2-3, with acetic acid as the main component (about 3-7%). The above-mentioned wood vinegar contains wood pyrolysis substances such as formic acid, formaldehyde, phenolic acid, and other tar components, and has a specific gravity of about 1.010-1.030. When used in soil, it is effective as a soil sterilizer when used at a high concentration, and when diluted, it serves as a nutrient source for microorganisms to help the effective proliferation of microorganisms.

[0030] The above wood vinegar fine particle powder is produced by changing the physical and chemical properties of wood vinegar to make it fine particles, and can be manufactured by a method comprising the steps of: preparing wood vinegar by aging and purifying crude wood vinegar obtained by extracting smoke generated during the carbonization process of charcoal; and forming wood vinegar fine particle powder by ultrasonically treating the wood vinegar.

[0031] It is preferable that the content of the above wood vinegar fine particle powder be 1 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above wood vinegar fine particle powder is less than 1 part by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if the content of the above wood vinegar fine particle powder exceeds 30 parts by weight, economic efficiency decreases.

[0032] The above illite has excellent hygroscopic properties and is used to achieve effects such as promoting plant growth, improving the quality of harvested crops (size, sugar content), increasing resistance to pests and diseases, alkalizing acidic soil, and promoting crop growth by aiding the absorption of phosphate silicate. It is preferable that the content of such illite be 0.1 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above illite is less than 0.1 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if the content of the above wood vinegar exceeds 20 parts by weight, economic efficiency decreases.

[0033] The above-mentioned waste oyster shells contain calcium compounds such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, and calcium sulfate, which are inorganic components. They also contain small amounts of magnesium, iron, aluminum, and sodium. In particular, the above-mentioned waste oyster shells are rich in calcium and are used to neutralize soil and aid in the adsorption of microorganisms to improve plant growth. It is preferable that the above-mentioned waste oyster shells be included in an amount of 0.01 to 15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above-mentioned waste oyster shells is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if it exceeds 15 parts by weight, the functional effect is excellent but economic efficiency decreases.

[0034] The above-mentioned diatomite is a soil formed by the accumulation of siliceous remains of diatoms, which are single-celled algae. It has many porous fine pores, making it highly absorbent and lightweight. It is used as an adsorbent and deodorizer, and because it is non-toxic, it is used for pest control. Additionally, it is used to enhance plant growth through water absorption and microbial adsorption. It is preferable that the content of the above-mentioned diatomite be 0.01 to 15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above-mentioned diatomite is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if it exceeds 15 parts by weight, the viscosity increases, resulting in reduced spraying performance.

[0035] The sodium alginate above is used as a natural polymer coagulant to improve the osmotic pressure effect of sodium chloride, which absorbs moisture from weeds and causes them to wither. It is preferable that the content of the cineole above be 0.01 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the zeolite above is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if it exceeds 10 parts by weight, the viscosity increases and spraying performance decreases.

[0036] The above burdock extract is a component extracted from burdock roots and is rich in iron and calcium, exhibiting excellent antibacterial and antifungal effects, and is used to obtain plant growth improvement effects. The above burdock extract may be prepared by first extracting the burdock roots with hot water, then secondarily extracting the first extract using a mixed solvent of hexane and chloroform (volume ratio of 1:1 to 2) and collecting the supernatant. It is preferable that the content of the above burdock extract be 0.01 to 15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above burdock extract is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if it exceeds 15 parts by weight, further improvement effects cannot be expected, leading to a problem of reduced price competitiveness.

[0037] The above coral calcium mineral is a mineral complex containing natural calcium extracted from coral inhabiting the sea and about 70 different types of minerals in addition to calcium. It has excellent inherent sterilizing power, inhibits the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms, and is non-toxic, serving as a natural disinfectant and a plant growth promoter. It is preferable that the content of the above coral calcium mineral be 0.01 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above coral calcium mineral is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect becomes insufficient, and if it exceeds 5 parts by weight, further improvement cannot be expected, leading to a problem of reduced price competitiveness.

[0038] The above microbial mixture plays a role in suppressing pathogens such as Rhizoctonia solani, a representative pathogen occurring in Korean turfgrass, and Brown Patch, Pythium, and Dollar Spot occurring in Western turfgrass, through thatch decomposition and natural enemy action against pathogens, and effectively suppresses soil-borne pathogens such as Fusarium spp. and Cycloconium spp. The above microbial mixture may be prepared by mixing Trichoderma harzianum, photosynthetic bacteria, Bacillus subtilis, and yeast in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1.5:1 to 1.5:1 to 1.5. It is preferable that the content of the above microbial mixture be 0.01 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above microbial mixture is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect is insufficient, and if it exceeds 10 parts by weight, further improvement cannot be expected, which leads to a problem of reduced price competitiveness.

[0040] The above grass growth composition may additionally include cinnamon oil. The cinnamon oil may be extracted and purified from nature using extraction and purification methods conventional in the art, or it may be synthesized by chemical methods. Preferably, the cinnamon oil may be extracted and purified from a natural plant called cinnamon (scientific name: Cinnamomum verum). The types of extraction and purification methods in the art may be performed using one selected from steam distillation, hot water extraction, solvent extraction, pressing, carbon dioxide extraction, reflux cooling extraction, cold maceration, and elution methods, although not limited thereto. In one embodiment of the present invention, cinnamon oil extracted using steam distillation was used.

[0041] Specifically, the above cinnamon oil can be obtained by placing the cinnamon bark on a grid inside a steam distillation apparatus and blowing steam from below, and then condensing the fragrance components released in the form of steam as the steam passes through the cinnamon bark in a cooling tube to extract them in the form of essential oil.

[0042] It is preferable that the above cinnamon oil be included in an amount of 0.5 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above cinnamon oil is less than 0.5 parts by weight, the fixing effect on grass roots is negligible, and if it exceeds 5 parts by weight, the viscosity increases and the spraying performance decreases.

[0043] In addition, the above functional plant growth composition for turf replacement may further include a sapanchalcone compound represented by the following chemical formula 1 to enhance herbicidal activity.

[0044]

[0045] It is preferable that the above safan chalcone compound be included in an amount of 0.01 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of water. If the content of the above safan chalcone compound is less than 0.01 parts by weight, the functional effect is insufficient, and if it exceeds 5 parts by weight, further improvement cannot be expected, which leads to a problem of reduced price competitiveness.

[0047] Another aspect of the present invention provides a method for replacing grass using the grass growth composition.

[0048] A method for replacing grass according to one embodiment of the present invention

[0049] Step to identify the turf replacement area;

[0050] A step of cutting the grass in the slope area other than the above-mentioned grass replacement area;

[0051] Step of removing grass around facilities within the above-mentioned grass replacement area;

[0052] A step of spraying a grass growth composition having herbicidal activity within the above-mentioned grass replacement area;

[0053] A step of leveling the surface after plowing over the grass and topsoil layer within the above-mentioned grass replacement area;

[0054] A step of planting new grass in the above grass replacement area;

[0055] Step of spreading sand on the area where the new grass is planted;

[0056] A step of leveling the area where the new grass is planted;

[0057] The step of cleaning the area where the new grass is planted and the surrounding area; and

[0058] It includes a step of determining whether the grass roots have taken root in the area where the new grass was planted.

[0060] Hereinafter, the method for replacing grass according to the present invention will be described in detail step by step.

[0062] First, identify the turf replacement areas. Managers of golf courses, sports fields, parks, and athletic facilities can select these replacement zones by frequently inspecting the course and checking the condition of the turf. The decision to replace the turf can be made by considering factors such as soil firmness and the condition of the grass. By identifying these replacement areas, not only can existing grass and weeds be effectively removed, but the areas to be sprayed with the turf growth composition described later can also be accurately determined.

[0064] Next, the grass in the slope area other than the grass replacement area is cut. Preferably, the grass in the border area of the grass replacement area can be cut to a length of 3 cm or less to clearly define the boundary with the surroundings. This allows the grass replacement area to be clearly marked, so that the grass in the area requiring replacement can be accurately replaced while protecting the area that does not require replacement.

[0066] Remove the grass around the facilities within the aforementioned grass replacement area. By pre-removing the grass in areas where rotary equipment cannot operate, this helps ensure that all grass within the grass replacement area is completely removed when the grass and topsoil layer are subsequently tilled by rotary equipment.

[0068] Next, a grass growth composition having herbicidal activity is sprayed within the grass replacement area. The grass growth composition having herbicidal activity may be a grass growth composition according to one embodiment of the present invention, and since the description of the grass growth composition is as previously described, it is omitted to avoid redundancy. Since the grass growth composition has herbicidal activity, it removes weeds, thereby eliminating factors that hinder the growth of the newly planted grass, which in turn facilitates the growth of the newly planted grass. Furthermore, the grass growth composition enhances the root establishment ability of the newly planted grass, enabling wider and more abundant root development, and also strengthens resistance to growth stress, thereby providing excellent effects for maintaining and managing healthy grass.

[0070] Next, the grass and topsoil layers within the aforementioned grass replacement area are tilled, and surface leveling is performed. Specifically, this process, known as rotary tilling, involves using agricultural machinery (rotary equipment) to till the grass and topsoil layers (sand depth of 15–25 cm) to sand them down. This operation replenishes air in the compacted soil and facilitates soil drainage. Additionally, it destroys the thatch layer accumulated over several years, thereby preventing pathogens that may affect the grass. Furthermore, since sand itself contains no organic matter, rotary tilling supplies the dead grass from the sand as organic matter, allowing the roots to establish themselves quickly after planting.

[0072] Next, new grass is planted in the aforementioned grass replacement area. The grass may be planted using a turf-planting method. This turf-planting method may involve either flat sodding, which involves planting sod in the form of mats of a uniform size, or row sodding, which involves planting rolls of grass in the form of rolls of a uniform width; however, it is preferable to plant the grass using flat sodding, as it has a relatively short root establishment period, minimizes weed growth, and provides a neat appearance after planting.

[0073] The size of the turf used for flat turfing is not limited, but it is preferable that the width and length of the flat surface be 40×60 cm and the thickness be 1 to 4 cm.

[0074] In addition, it is desirable to transport sod produced at a separate production site to the site immediately after harvesting so that planting can be done within 24 hours.

[0075] Meanwhile, an additional step of installing a mesh net before planting the grass may be performed. By installing the mesh net before planting the grass, the soil cohesion is increased, and as the grass roots intertwine with the mesh net during the establishment process, the fixation strength is enhanced, thereby effectively preventing the loss of grass due to strong winds or rainfall, or partial damage to the grass caused by external physical impact. The mesh net has a structure in which multiple mesh holes are formed sequentially and repeatedly in all directions, and the shape of the mesh holes can be formed in a square, polygonal, circular, or honeycomb shape. Additionally, the mesh net can be formed in a roll shape or in a square shape of a predetermined width and length. Furthermore, the mesh net may be made of natural fiber yarn that naturally biodegrades in the soil.

[0076] When installing the above mesh net, the boundaries of the mesh nets may be installed adjacent to each other or partially overlapping, and the mesh nets may be joined using a fixing means to prevent them from lifting off the ground while simultaneously being fixed to the ground. The fixing means may be formed in the shape of a clip that naturally biodegrades in the soil, thereby allowing the overlapping portion of the mesh net installed on the ground to be driven into the ground and fixed using the fixing means.

[0078] Next, sand is spread over the area where the new grass is planted. The sand serves to secure the planted grass and mesh net to the ground and can be spread to a thickness of 1 to 10 mm on the ground. The sand may be used by mixing one or more types selected from silt, clay, coco peat, and volcanic rock with general sand commonly used in the industry. At this time, it is preferable that the particle size of the sand be 0.5 to 2 mm, the particle size of the silt be 0.05 to 0.1 mm, and the particle size of the clay be 0.005 mm or less.

[0080] Next, the area where the new grass has been planted is leveled. This leveling is performed to rapidly stabilize the sand and grass in the area where the new grass has been planted, and can be carried out using a rolling device, such as a voltage roller. At this time, it is important not to compact the surface too tightly so that air can be supplied to the grass.

[0082] Next, clean the area where new grass was planted and the surrounding area after leveling.

[0083] The above cleaning may utilize general cleaning methods known in the industry, and can be performed naturally in accordance with the slope between the areas where the turf has been replaced and the areas where it has not been replaced, thereby creating a clean course.

[0085] Next, after determining whether the roots of the grass planted in the area where the new grass is planted have taken root, if it is determined that the planted grass has taken root, an additional task of supplying air can be performed.

[0086] The above air supply is desirable as it can help the planted grass take root more firmly.

[0088] The turf growth composition according to one embodiment of the present invention has excellent herbicidal activity and turf growth activity, so weeds in the turf replacement area can be easily removed without using a separate chemical herbicide, and the growth of newly planted Korean turf can be improved to establish the turf within a short period of time, thereby minimizing the replacement period, reducing maintenance costs, and maintaining a high-quality turf condition.

[0089] In addition, by spraying the grass growth composition only on the areas where grass replacement is required, it is possible to accurately replace the grass only in the areas where replacement is needed while protecting the areas where replacement is not required.

[0090] In addition, by shortening the time required for turf replacement, it is possible to minimize business losses in public facilities caused by the replacement, as well as reduce the cost of turf replacement through savings on waste disposal and labor expenses.

[0091] In addition, by installing a mesh net on the ground and planting grass, excellent drainage can be maintained even after planting Korean grass, which has deep and strong roots, allowing the grass roots to take root smoothly and resulting in excellent grass growth.

[0093] The present invention will be explained in more detail below through examples, but the following examples are not intended to limit the scope of the invention and should be interpreted as being for the purpose of aiding understanding of the invention.

[0095] [Preparation Example 1] Preparation of wood vinegar fine particle powder

[0096] Wood vinegar was prepared by aging and purifying crude wood vinegar obtained by extracting smoke generated during the carbonization process of charcoal for more than 6 months. The wood vinegar was atomized into droplets using an ultrasonic vibrator and dried in furnace I (T=300℃) using N2 carrier gas (flow rate: 0.5 cm / sec) to form fine wood vinegar powder.

[0098] [Preparation Example 2] Preparation of burdock extract

[0099] Cleanly washed and dried burdock (Arctium lappa L.) roots were crushed, placed in water with a volume four times that of the roots, and hot water extraction was performed at 90°C for 4 hours. Afterward, the hot water extract was extracted with a mixed solvent of hexane and chloroform (1:2 volume ratio), and the supernatant was collected and used as the burdock extract.

[0101] [Preparation Example 3] Preparation of cinnamon oil

[0102] The cinnamon bark was placed on a grid inside a steam distillation apparatus, and steam was blown in from below. As the steam passed through the cinnamon bark, the fragrance components released in the form of steam were condensed in a cooling tube and extracted as essential oil.

[0104] [Preparation Example 4] Preparation of Saphanchalcone Compound

[0105] 200 g of Sappanwood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) was added to 1 L of water and heated twice at 95 ℃ for 6 hours each. The extract was filtered under atmospheric pressure using filter paper and then freeze-dried to obtain a water extract of Sappanwood.

[0106] After suspending the Sappanwood extract in methanol, the methanol-soluble portion was concentrated under reduced pressure. Subsequently, the methanol-soluble portion was suspended in distilled water, and n-hexane was added to form fractions. The mixture was extracted three times with n-hexane to separate it into a hexane-soluble layer and a distilled water layer.

[0107] Next, methylene chloride was added to the distilled water layer to fractionate it, and the methylene chloride-soluble layer was subjected to silica gel (70-230 mesh, 350 g) column chromatography using a stepwise concentration gradient method (20:1 → 1:1) with a methylene chloride / methanol mixed solvent as the elution solvent to divide it into a total of 6 fractions.

[0108] Among these, the fourth fraction was subjected to Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography under 50% methanol conditions to divide it into three fractions, and the commercially available chalcone compound of Chemical Formula 1 was separated from the second fraction.

It was confirmed that the survival rate of grass and the weed control rate of clover, dock, and other weeds were significantly increased compared to the composition of the comparative example containing only wood vinegar and microorganisms.

[0120] [Experimental Example 2] Growth activity of planted grass

[0121] Among the Zoysia japonica varieties, 'Deuljandi' was collected, and the growing point nodes of the stolons were cut to a length of 1 to 3 cm, wrapped in a paper towel moistened with water, and stored at 4°C. After one week, artificial soil and sand were mixed in a volume ratio of 7:3, placed in a 16-cell tray, and the cut stolons were planted. To promote root development of the young stolons, they were watered sufficiently, covered with plastic film, and cultivated for 2 weeks. Afterward, the plastic film was removed to acclimatize them, and then treated with the compositions of Examples 1 to 3 and the composition of the Comparative Example and cultivated for 3 weeks.

[0122] Growth was investigated a total of three times: at the time of planting, before treatment with the composition (2 weeks after planting), and 3 weeks after treatment with the composition.

[0123] The growing environment conditions are as shown in Table 3 below.
