Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an electrode manufacturing apparatus, and more specifically, to an electrode manufacturing apparatus that alleviates wrinkles and prevents folding in the uncoated portion of an electrode. Background Technology
[0002] With the increasing technological development and demand for mobile devices, the demand for secondary batteries as an energy source is rapidly increasing. In particular, secondary batteries are attracting significant interest as an energy source not only for mobile devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, laptops, and wearable devices, but also for power devices such as electric bicycles, electric vehicles, and hybrid electric vehicles.
[0003] While small mobile devices use one or two or three battery cells per device, medium-to-large devices such as automobiles require high output and large capacity. Therefore, medium-to-large battery modules consisting of multiple battery cells electrically connected are used.
[0004] Since it is desirable for medium-to-large battery modules to be manufactured with the smallest possible size and weight, prismatic batteries and pouch-type batteries, which can be stacked with high integration density and have a low weight-to-capacity ratio, are mainly used as battery cells for medium-to-large battery modules. Meanwhile, the battery module may include a module frame that houses the battery cell stack in an internal space, with the front and rear sides open, to protect the battery cell stack from external shock, heat, or vibration. [0008] The difference between the radius of the first pressure roll and the radius of the second pressure roll may be greater than 50 µm and less than 2000 µm.
[0009] The first pressure roller is extended along the end of the coating portion, and the first pressure roller can apply pressure to the uncoated portion and the end of the coating portion.
[0010] The end of the coating portion includes a first sliding portion whose thickness decreases in the direction toward the uncoated portion, and the first pressure roll may include a second sliding portion that contacts the first sliding portion.
[0011] The thickness of the second sliding part may be the same as or smaller than the thickness of the first sliding part.
[0012] The thickness of the second sliding part may be greater than 50 µm and less than 2000 µm.
[0013] The first pressure roll and the second pressure roll can come into contact with each other.
[0014] The outer surface of the first pressure roll that contacts the second pressure roll and the outer surface of the second pressure roll that contacts the first pressure roll may each be coated.
[0015] The entire outer surface of the first pressure roll and the entire outer surface of the second pressure roll may each be coated.
[0016] It further includes at least one fixing part penetrating each of the first pressure roll and the second pressure roll, and the fixing part may be spaced apart from the connecting part.

[0022] Hereinafter, various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the present invention. The present invention may be embodied in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.
[0023] To clearly explain the present invention, parts unrelated to the explanation have been omitted, and the same reference numerals are used for identical or similar components throughout the specification.
[0024] Furthermore, the size and thickness of each component shown in the drawings are depicted arbitrarily for convenience of explanation, and thus the present invention is not necessarily limited to what is illustrated. Thicknesses have been enlarged in the drawings to clearly represent various layers and regions. Additionally, for convenience of explanation, the thickness of some layers and regions has been exaggerated in the drawings.
[0025] Furthermore, throughout the specification, when a part is described as “comprising” a certain component, this means that, unless specifically stated otherwise, it does not exclude other components but may include additional components.
[0026] Additionally, throughout the specification, "planar" means when the subject part is viewed from above, and "cross-sectional" means when the cross-section obtained by vertically cutting the subject part is viewed from the side.
[0027] Hereinafter, an electrode manufacturing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described.
[0028] FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode manufacturing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention and an electrode manufactured therefrom. FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the electrode manufacturing apparatus of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode manufactured from the electrode manufacturing apparatus of FIG. 1.
[0029] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to one embodiment of the present invention is an electrode manufacturing device (1000) that applies pressure to an electrode (100) including a coating portion (150) and an uncoated portion (110), and includes a first pressure roller (1100) that applies pressure to the uncoated portion (110); a second pressure roller (1200) that applies pressure to the coating portion (150); and a connecting portion (1500) that penetrates the center of the first pressure roller (1100) and the center of the second pressure roller (1200), respectively.
[0030] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 3, the electrode (100) may include a coated portion (150) and an uncoated portion (110). More specifically, in the electrode (100), the coated portion (150) may refer to a portion on which an active material layer is formed on the electrode current collector. Additionally, in the electrode (100), the uncoated portion (110) may refer to a portion on which an active material layer is not formed on the electrode current collector.
[0031] For example, when the electrode (100) is a positive electrode, the coating portion (150) is a portion where a positive active material layer is formed on the positive electrode current collector, and the uncoated portion (110) may refer to a portion where a positive active material layer is not formed on the positive electrode current collector.
[0032] As another example, when the electrode (100) is a negative electrode, the coating portion (150) may refer to a portion where a negative active material layer is formed on the negative current collector, and the uncoated portion (110) may refer to a portion where a negative active material layer is not formed on the negative current collector.
[0033] Additionally, in the electrode (100), the coating portion (150) may be a portion in which an active material layer is formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the electrode current collector, respectively, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3. However, it is not limited thereto, and the coating portion (150) may be a portion in which an active material layer is formed on either the upper or lower surface of the electrode current collector, unlike FIGS. 1 and 3.
[0034] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the electrode manufacturing device (1000) may include a first electrode manufacturing device (1001) and a second electrode manufacturing device (1002). Here, the first electrode manufacturing device (1001) may be located above the electrode (100), and the second electrode manufacturing device (1002) may be located below the electrode (100). In this case, the coating portion (150) of the electrode (100) may be a portion in which an active material layer is formed on the upper surface and the lower surface of the electrode current collector, respectively, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3.
[0035] However, this is not limited thereto, and in the electrode manufacturing device (1000), one of the first electrode manufacturing device (1001) and the second electrode manufacturing device (1002) may be omitted, and an electrode current collector may be positioned on a single electrode manufacturing device so that the electrode current collector may be pressed. In this case, the electrode manufacturing device may press the electrode current collector in the form of a guide roll rather than pressing the electrode current collector from both sides.
[0036] For example, if the coating portion (150) of the electrode (100) is a portion where an active material layer is formed on either the upper or lower surface of the electrode current collector, one of the first electrode manufacturing device (1001) and the second electrode manufacturing device (1002) in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) may be omitted.
[0037] Hereinafter, the electrode manufacturing device (1000) will be described in detail, and the first electrode manufacturing device (1001) and the second electrode manufacturing device (1002) can both be described in the same way.
[0038] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the electrode manufacturing device (1000) includes a first pressure roll (1100) and a second pressure roll (1200). Here, the first pressure roll (1100) may be positioned on each side of the second pressure roll (1200) as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. However, it is not limited thereto, and the first pressure roll (1100) may be positioned on only one side of the second pressure roll (1200), unlike FIGS. 1 and 2.
[0039] Additionally, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each have a ring shape as shown in FIGS. 1 and FIGS. 2. However, they are not limited thereto, and the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each have a shape in which multiple rings are combined, unlike FIGS. 1 and FIGS. 2.
[0040] Accordingly, the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment can combine the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) according to the shape of the electrode (100) (e.g., the location of the uncoated portion), and thus has the advantage of being flexibly applicable to changes in the shape of the electrode (100).
[0041] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) may be equal to or smaller than the step difference (d2) between the coated portion (150) and the uncoated portion (110). More specifically, with respect to the respective centers of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200), the difference (d1) between the distance from the center of the first pressure roll (1100) to the pressure surface of the first pressure roll (1100) and the distance from the center of the second pressure roll (1200) to the pressure surface of the second pressure roll (1200) may be equal to or smaller than the step difference (d2) between the coated portion (150) and the uncoated portion (110).
[0042] Additionally, the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) may be greater than 50 µm and less than 2000 µm. More specifically, the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) may be 100 µm or more and 1000 µm or less. As an example, the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) may be 300 µm or more and 500 µm or less.
[0043] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) is included within the range described above, so that as the electrode manufacturing device (1000) presses the upper and / or lower part of the electrode (100), the elongation rate of the uncoated part (110) can be increased while the wrinkles of the uncoated part (110) can be relieved and the folding of the uncoated part (110) can also be prevented.
[0044] In contrast, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, if the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) is 50 µm or less, the degree of elongation of the uncoated portion (110) is insufficient, and a problem may occur in which the uncoated portion (110) folds or wrinkles are intensified. In addition, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, if the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) is 2000 µm or more, there is a problem in which the uncoated portion (110) is excessively elongated or wrinkles such as ripples are intensified.
[0045] Specifically, referring to FIG. 7, when the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200) is 300 µm or more and 500 µm or less, the camber value and the non-coated area lifting value have a low range, thereby improving the wrinkle removal or folding effect. Here, the camber value is a measure of the level at which the electrode bends, and the non-coated area lifting value is a measure of the level at which the non-coated area is lifted in a direction perpendicular to the coating surface.
[0046] Additionally, referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the first pressure roller (1100) extends along the end of the coating portion (150), and the first pressure roller (1100) can apply pressure to the end of the uncoated portion (110) and the coating portion (150).
[0047] More specifically, referring to FIGS. 1 and 3, in the electrode (100), the end of the coating portion (150) may include a first sliding portion (150s) whose thickness decreases in a direction toward the uncoated portion (110). Here, the first sliding portion (150s) may be formed as the active material slurry constituting the active material layer flows toward the uncoated portion (110) when forming an active material layer on the electrode current collector.
[0048] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the first pressure roller (1100) may include a second sliding portion (1100s) that contacts the first sliding portion (150s) of the coating portion (150). Here, the second sliding portion (1100s) may extend along the first sliding portion (150s).
[0049] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, the first pressure roller (1100) includes a second sliding part (1100s) corresponding to the first sliding part (150s) of the coating part (150), thereby having the advantage of being able to apply pressure uniformly to the coating part (150) and the first sliding part (150s).
[0050] Additionally, the thickness of the second sliding part (1100s) may be equal to or smaller than the thickness of the first sliding part (150s). That is, the thickness of the second sliding part (1100s) may be greater than 50 µm and less than 2000 µm. More specifically, the thickness of the second sliding part (1100s) may be 100 µm or more and 1000 µm or less. As an example, the thickness of the second sliding part (1100s) may be 300 µm or more and 500 µm or less.
[0051] Here, the thickness of the second sliding part (1100s) can be described as being equal to the difference (d1) between the radius of the first pressure roll (1100) and the radius of the second pressure roll (1200).
[0052] Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view showing each component of the electrode manufacturing device of Figure 2 in a disassembled state.
[0053] Referring to FIGS. 1, 2, and 4, the first pressure roller (1100) and the second pressure roller (1200) can be joined to each other through a connecting portion (1500). Here, the first pressure roller (1100) and the second pressure roller (1200) can come into contact with each other.
[0054] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) can be stably fixed to each other.
[0055] Additionally, referring to FIGS. 2 and FIGS. 4, the electrode manufacturing apparatus (1000) according to the present embodiment may further include at least one fixing part (1600) that penetrates the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200), respectively. Here, the fixing part (1600) may be spaced apart from the connecting part (1500).
[0056] For example, the fixing part (1600) may be made of a member such as a fixing pin. However, it is not limited thereto, and any member that fixes the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) to each other while penetrating the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may be included in this embodiment. As a modified embodiment, the fixing part (1600) may be manufactured in the form of an integrated roll without a member such as a fixing pin.
[0057] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) can be fixed more stably while minimizing friction occurring between them.
[0058] Here, the outer surface of the first pressure roll (1100) that contacts the second pressure roll (1200) and the outer surface of the second pressure roll (1200) that contacts the first pressure roll (1100) may each be coated. Additionally, the entire outer surface of the first pressure roll (1100) and the entire outer surface of the second pressure roll (1200) may each be coated.
[0059] For example, a portion of the outer surface of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may be coated with at least one coating method among anodizing coating, DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating, hard chromium plating coating, silicone coating, and rubber coating. However, it is not limited thereto, and any coating method that can prevent damage and foreign matter from friction between the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may be included in this embodiment.
[0060] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) according to the present embodiment, a portion of the outer surface of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) is coated in the manner described above, thereby minimizing friction between the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200), so as to prevent damage to the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) and the occurrence of foreign matter.
[0061] Additionally, the outer surfaces of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each have a shape that takes into account the location of the uncoated portion (110) and the loading amount or pattern of the coated portion (150). For example, the outer surfaces of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each be formed in one of the shapes of a crown, taper, trapezoid, step, recrown, and halfcrown. The outer surfaces of the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may also be formed in a combination of different shapes. However, they are not limited thereto, and any shape capable of applying pressure to the electrode (100) may be included in this embodiment.
[0062] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) of the present embodiment, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may have different shapes depending on the position of the uncoated portion (110) and the loading amount or pattern of the coated portion (150), so that the pressure and friction applied to the uncoated portion (110) can be appropriately controlled according to the shape of the electrode (100).
[0063] Additionally, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each be made of a material that takes into account the location of the uncoated portion (110) and the loading amount or pattern of the coated portion (150). For example, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may each be made of one or more materials selected from the group consisting of metal, plastic, rubber, and silicone. In addition, the rubber may be nitrile rubber (HNBR), hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR), etc., and the silicone may be room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone (RTV silicone). However, it is not limited thereto, and any material capable of applying pressure to the electrode (100) may be included in this embodiment.
[0064] Accordingly, in the electrode manufacturing device (1000) of the present embodiment, the first pressure roll (1100) and the second pressure roll (1200) may have different materials depending on the location of the uncoated portion (110) and the loading amount or pattern of the coated portion (150), so that the pressure and friction applied to the uncoated portion (110) can be appropriately controlled according to the shape of the electrode (100).
[0065] An electrode according to another embodiment of the present invention can be manufactured using the electrode manufacturing apparatus described above. Additionally, a plurality of electrodes can be stacked to form an electrode stack, and the electrode stack can be mounted inside a battery case.
[0066] The content of the present invention is explained below through more specific embodiments, but the following embodiments are intended to illustrate the invention and the scope of the invention is not limited thereto.
