Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage, and more specifically, to a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage that can prevent tooth damage to a patient when used for tracheal intubation. Background Technology
[0002] Tracheal intubation is a procedure necessary to maintain breathing when breathing is difficult due to tracheal stenosis or edema, upper airway obstruction caused by foreign substances such as vomit, sputum, or blood, or facial and chest trauma. It is the most common method used to supply sufficient oxygen by maintaining the airway.
[0003] Tracheal intubation is performed by opening the larynx to secure the trachea using a laryngoscope, and the laryngoscope includes a handle held by the operator and a blade for opening the larynx.
[0004] The operator grasps the handle of the laryngoscope, inserts and positions the blade inside the oral cavity, then flips the handle to lift the epiglottis with the blade to open the larynx.
[0005] However, while conventional laryngoscopes are a representative and efficient means of directly securing a patient's airway, they had the problem that the metal blades would strike the teeth and damage them during use.
[0006] Tooth injury is the most frequent complication that occurs during the process of endotracheal intubation for general anesthesia. The incidence of tooth injury during endotracheal intubation is reported to vary from 0.05% to 12.1%, and 75% of tooth injuries during general anesthesia occur during endotracheal intubation. Subluxation was the highest at approximately 55%, while complete dislocation was reported at 43%.
[0007] Most tooth injuries associated with laryngoscope manipulation occur when the flange of the laryngoscope blade comes into direct contact with the maxillary central incisors and applies pressure, causing crown fracture, root fracture, dislocation, and tooth mobility.
[0008] Furthermore, when using a laryngoscope, there is a possibility that fragments of dental restorations caused by the collision of the blade's edge with the teeth may be aspirated into the lungs, leading to respiratory problems such as pneumonia. If a medical accident occurs as a result, it can worsen the relationship between the patient and the medical staff and cause legal issues such as medical disputes.
[0009] In particular, low-birth-weight premature infants require intubation because their lungs are incompletely developed. When using a conventional laryngoscope, there is a high likelihood of delayed eruption, impaction, and morphological abnormalities of the deciduous central incisors due to displacement of the tooth buds and local trauma during the intubation process. In severe cases, such damage may lead to the formation of a groove in the palate, defects in the incisors, and acquired cleft palate.
[0010] There is a mouthguard worn in the patient's mouth to prevent tooth damage when using a laryngoscope, and mouthguards are classified into off-the-shelf and custom-made products.
[0011] However, while commercially available mouthguards generally provide tooth protection, they have the disadvantage of being difficult to install on pediatric and adolescent patients with inconsistent dental arch sizes and shapes, as well as patients with specialized anatomical structures.
[0012] In addition, while custom-made mouthguards are optimized for the anatomical structures of the patient's oral cavity, the manufacturing process presents challenges such as discomfort during impression taking, complex laboratory procedures, time-consuming production, and the inability to use them in emergencies. [0039] FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating one embodiment of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a side cross-sectional view illustrating one embodiment of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention.
[0040] With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, an embodiment of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention will be described in detail below.
[0041] One embodiment of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention includes a blade portion (100) for opening the larynx that is inserted into the oral cavity of a patient.
[0042] The blade portion (100) for opening the larynx is connected to the upper side of the handle portion (200) and is formed in a curved shape, with the end portion bent toward the lower side of the handle portion (200).
[0043] The blade portion (100) for opening the larynx is detachably mounted to the handle portion (200), and since this is a structure known in known laryngoscopes, further detailed explanation is omitted.
[0044] The blade portion (100) for opening the larynx includes a handle coupling portion (110) that is detachably coupled to the upper side of the handle portion (200), a bending portion (120) that is bent and positioned at the handle coupling portion (110), and a blade portion (130) that is formed in a bent shape at the bending portion (120) and inserted into the oral cavity.
[0045] The shape of the blade portion (130) is formed by bending it with a predetermined curvature so that it is folded back after being inserted into the patient's oral cavity to open the patient's larynx, and is formed with a shape that becomes thinner toward the end, and it is noted that it can be implemented by varying the shape of the blade known in known laryngoscopes.
[0046] It should be noted that the handle coupling part (110) can be implemented in various modified forms such as a structure in which the blade is detachably coupled to the handle or handle in a known laryngoscope.
[0047] Additionally, the handle portion (200) is formed in the shape of a rod or bar, which is used by the operator to hold with their hand and tilt the blade portion (130) inserted into the patient's oral cavity. It is noted that it can be modified in various ways to the shape of a handle or grip used by the operator in a known laryngoscope.
[0048] The blade portion (130) has a tooth insertion portion formed in the shape of a groove on the end side connected to the bending portion (110), and the tooth insertion portion includes a first tooth insertion groove portion (131) and a second tooth insertion groove portion (132) located on the upper and lower surfaces of the blade portion (130), respectively, so that when the blade portion (130) is inserted into the oral cavity and then folded back to open the larynx, interference between the upper and lower teeth can be minimized.
[0049] The first tooth insertion groove (131) is located on the upper surface of the blade portion (130) and is a part that interferes with the patient's upper teeth, and the second tooth insertion groove (132) is located on the lower surface of the blade portion (130) and is a part that interferes with the patient's lower teeth.
[0050] The first tooth insertion groove (131) and the second tooth insertion groove (132) are each arc-shaped grooves having a preset curvature, thereby stably securing a space where the upper teeth and lower teeth do not come into contact with or collide with the blade portion (130) when the blade portion (130) is folded in the oral cavity.
[0051] Additionally, the curvature (R1) of the first tooth insertion groove (131) facing the upper tooth is formed to be larger than the curvature (R2) of the second tooth insertion groove (132) facing the lower tooth, so that when the blade portion (130) is folded, that is, when the blade portion (130) is rotated toward the upper tooth to open the laryngoscope, the interference between the first tooth insertion groove (131) and the second tooth insertion groove (132) with the upper tooth and the lower tooth, respectively, can be minimized by taking into account the radius of rotation when the blade portion (130) is rotated toward the upper tooth.
[0053] The laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention is equipped with a blade portion (100) for opening the larynx and includes a pressure sensor portion (400) that can detect pressure by contacting the patient's teeth, and a notification portion (500) that notifies the operator when a preset pressure is detected by the pressure sensor portion (400).
[0054] The pressure sensor part (400) is provided on the opening blade part in a position where it can come into contact with the patient's teeth when the opening blade part inserted into the patient's oral cavity is folded back to open the patient's larynx.
[0055] As an example, the pressure sensor part (400) is positioned in the first tooth insertion groove (131) that comes into contact with the upper teeth when the larynx opening blade part inserted into the patient's oral cavity is folded back to open the patient's larynx.
[0056] The pressure sensor unit (400) is exemplified as a load cell that detects a load, and it is noted that it can be implemented in various modified forms using known sensors capable of detecting a load when pressurized, so further detailed description is omitted.
[0057] The notification unit (500) is positioned on the upper side of the handle unit and is mounted on the side opposite to where the end of the blade unit for opening the larynx is facing, in a position where the operator can check it during use, and is exemplified by including a lamp unit (510) that emits light to notify or a speaker unit (520) that outputs a warning sound.
[0058] Additionally, the notification unit (500) is installed in the handle unit and further includes a display unit (530) that displays the pressure value detected by the pressure sensor unit (400).
[0059] The display unit (530) displays the current pressure value detected by the pressure sensor unit (400) in real time, and also displays the preset pressure, i.e., the limit pressure value.
[0060] The operator can perform the procedure while checking the current pressure value and the limit pressure value displayed through the display unit (530), thereby preventing excessive pressure from being applied to the teeth during the airway expansion procedure, and can easily and accurately perform the airway expansion procedure by flipping the opening blade inserted into the oral cavity with safe and appropriate force.
[0061] The laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention further includes a control unit that receives a pressure value detected by a pressure sensor unit (400) and controls the operation of a notification unit (500).
[0062] The control unit notifies the practitioner that excessive pressure is being applied to the tooth by emitting light through the lamp unit (510) or outputting a warning sound through the speaker unit (520) when the current pressure level detected by the pressure sensor unit (400) during the airway expansion procedure is greater than or equal to a preset limit pressure level.
[0063] One embodiment of the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention checks the pressure that comes into contact with the upper teeth when the laryngeal opening blade inserted into the patient's oral cavity is flipped open to open the patient's larynx using a pressure sensor unit (400), and if the pressure exceeds a preset limit pressure, notifies the operator through a notification unit (500), so that the operator can flip the opening blade inserted into the oral cavity with safe and appropriate force to easily and safely perform an airway expansion procedure.
[0065] Meanwhile, the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention further includes an elastic cover portion (300) made of an elastic material that surrounds the blade portion (100) for opening the larynx, and the pressure sensor portion (400) is provided in a state where it is seated on the elastic cover portion (300) and is elastically supported by the elastic cover portion when measuring pressure.
[0066] The elastic cover portion (300) is made of an elastic material capable of absorbing shock and can wrap around the laryngeal opening blade portion (100) to absorb the shock generated when teeth collide with the laryngeal opening blade portion (100) inside the oral cavity.
[0067] The elastic cover part (300) is manufactured using silicone material as an example, but can also be manufactured using known elastic materials such as synthetic rubber, natural rubber, and urethane, and is selected and used as a type of elastic material that is harmless to the human body.
[0068] The elastic cover portion (300) is formed in a shape corresponding to the blade portion (130) and can be detachably coupled to the blade portion (130) for use.
[0069] The elastic cover part (300) is made of a sterile material such as silicone in a form that can be attached to the blade part (130), making it easy to clean, sterilize, and replace.
[0070] The elastic cover part (300) can be attached to the blade part (130) so that cleaning and replacement are easy, and it is made of a sterile material to ensure a hygienic environment and prevent other diseases caused by bacterial contamination in the oral cavity.
[0071] The pressure sensor portion (400) is seated on a part of the elastic cover portion (300) covering the first tooth insertion groove portion (131) and is elastically supported by the elastic cover portion (30), so that when pressure is applied by the patient's tooth, the elastic cover portion (30) absorbs the shock.
[0072] The pressure sensor part (400) is elastically supported by the elastic cover part (30) to increase the value of the limiting pressure that damages the teeth, thereby widening the allowable pressure range in which the teeth can be pressed with the blade (130) when securing the trachea for tracheal intubation using a tracheal intubation laryngoscope.
[0073] Accordingly, when a practitioner uses the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention, the allowable pressure range for applying pressure to the teeth with the blade (130) during tracheal intubation is widened, thereby ensuring convenience in the procedure, allowing the opening of the laryngoscope to be done as quickly and rapidly as possible, and allowing the procedure to be performed safely while checking the pressure value of applying pressure to the teeth with the blade (130) detected by the pressure sensor unit (400) in real time.
[0074] Meanwhile, the blade portion (130) is provided with a first connection terminal portion (133) for supplying power to the pressure sensor portion (400) and connecting to the control portion, and the pressure sensor portion (400) is provided with a second connection terminal portion (410) that penetrates the elastic cover portion and connects to the first connection terminal portion (133).
[0075] The first connection terminal portion (133) is provided on the first tooth insertion groove portion (131), and the second connection terminal portion (410) is located on the elastic cover portion and is inserted into the terminal hole (301) that exposes the first connection terminal portion (133) and comes into contact with the first connection terminal portion (133).
[0076] As an example, the second connection terminal part (410) is a spring terminal that is elastically supported and connected to the first connection terminal part (133).
[0077] The second connection terminal (410) can be elastically supported by the first connection terminal (133) when the pressure sensor (400) mounted on the elastic cover portion is pressed by the patient's teeth, thereby maintaining a stable connection with the first connection terminal (133).
[0078] The control unit (233) is electrically connected to the pressure sensor unit (400) through the first connection terminal unit (133) and is electrically connected to the notification unit (500) to check the pressure value in real time using the electrical signal received from the pressure sensor unit (400) and to control the operation of the notification unit (500).
[0080] FIG. 3 is a drawing illustrating an example of use of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention. Referring to FIG. 3, when using the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention, the operator holds the handle portion (200) with their hand and inserts the blade portion (130) into the oral cavity to a position for opening the laryngoscope.
[0081] More specifically, the blade portion (130) is inserted such that the end portion is positioned in the esophagus with the curved lower surface of the blade portion (130) facing the upper side.
[0082] Then, after the blade portion (130) is inserted into the oral cavity in a position for opening the laryngoscope, the operator pulls the handle portion (200) toward the patient's upper teeth so that the blade portion (130) is folded back and the laryngoscope is opened.
[0083] When the blade portion (130) is folded, the blade portion (130) rotates at a preset radius while the upper surface of the curved surface is supported on the roof of the mouth, and at this time, the upper teeth and lower teeth may each come into contact with the blade portion (130).
[0084] The laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention has a blade portion (130) that contacts a pressure sensor portion (400) located on an elastic cover portion (300) made of an elastic material in a first tooth insertion groove portion (131), and if the pressure applied to the tooth by the blade (130) is greater than or equal to a preset pressure value, the operator is notified via a notification portion (500) to prevent tooth damage to the patient.
[0085] In addition, the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention has a pressure sensor part (400) mounted on an elastic cover part (300), and the part where the patient's lower teeth come into contact is covered by the elastic cover part (300), so that the allowable pressure range for applying pressure to the teeth with the blade (130) during tracheal intubation is widened, thereby allowing for convenience in the procedure and opening of the laryngoscope as quickly and rapidly as possible, and also prevents damage to the upper teeth and lower teeth that may occur when they come into contact with the blade (130).
[0086] In addition, a first tooth insertion groove (131) and a second tooth insertion groove (132) are positioned on the upper surface and lower surface, respectively, at the end of the blade portion (130) connected to the bending portion (110), where the upper and lower teeth can come into contact with the blade portion (130), thereby minimizing interference between the upper and lower teeth and the blade portion (130).
[0087] In addition, the curvature (R1) of the first tooth insertion groove (131) facing the upper tooth is formed to be larger than the curvature (R2) of the second tooth insertion groove (132) facing the lower tooth, so that when the blade portion (130) is rotated toward the upper tooth, interference between the blade portion (130) and the upper and lower teeth can be effectively prevented, contact or collision between the upper and lower teeth and the blade portion (130) can be minimized, and tooth damage such as tooth fracture and dislocation can be completely prevented when opening the laryngoscope for tracheal intubation.
[0089] FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view illustrating another embodiment of a laryngoscope for tracheal intubation that prevents tooth damage according to the present invention. Referring to FIG. 4, the handle portion (200) is adjustable in length and can be used by adjusting the length according to the surgical environment of tracheal intubation.
[0090] The handle portion (200) includes a movable body portion (210) to which the larynx opening blade portion (100) is connected, a handle body portion (220) into which the movable body portion (210) is movably inserted, and a length-adjustable movable portion (230) that moves the movable body portion (210) back and forth in a straight line.
[0091] The length-adjustable moving part (230) includes a moving screw (231) inserted in the longitudinal direction of the moving body part (210) and screw-coupled, a rotary motor (232) located within the handle body part (220) and connected to the moving screw (231) to rotate the moving screw (231), a control part (233) that controls the operation of the rotary motor (232), and a rechargeable part (234) for power supply.
[0092] The control unit (233) controls the operation of the notification unit (500) and also controls the operation of the rotary motor (232).
[0093] Additionally, a rotation-preventing stopper projection (211) is protruded from the outer surface of the movable body part (210), and a stopper insertion slit part (221) is positioned on the inner surface of the handle body part (220) to restrict rotation of the movable body part (210) by inserting the stopper projection (211) and is formed long in the longitudinal direction and moves linearly with the stopper projection (211) inserted.
[0094] As an example, the stopper protrusions (211) are provided as a pair on both sides of the movable body (210), and the stopper insertion slits (221) are formed as a pair facing each other so that the stopper protrusions (211) can be inserted into the inner surface of the handle (200).
[0095] When the moving screw rotates, the moving body part (210) does not rotate as the anti-rotation stopper projection part (211) is inserted into the stopper insertion slit part (221), and moves forward and backward according to the rotation direction of the moving screw. At this time, the stopper projection part (211) moves forward and backward together with the moving body part (210) while inserted into the stopper insertion slit part (221).
[0096] The charging part (234) is provided with a charging terminal (not shown) exposed to the outside of the handle body part (220) so that it can be charged through the charging terminal.
[0097] The charging terminal is exemplified by a USB Type-C charging terminal, but it can also be implemented with various other known charging terminals such as a Micro 5-pin terminal, so further detailed explanation is omitted.
[0098] The control unit (233) includes a movement operation switch (233a) located on the outside of the handle body (220), so that the operator can control the forward and backward movement of the movement body (210) by operating the movement operation switch (233a).
[0099] The movement operation switch (233a) includes a forward switch that advances the movement body part (210) to withdraw the movement body part (210) from the handle body part (220), and a backward switch that retracts the movement body part (210) to insert the movement body part (210) into the handle body part (220).
[0100] When the operator presses the forward switch of the movement operation switch (233a), the movement screw (231) rotates forward to move the movement body part (210) forward, thereby increasing the length of the handle part (200), and when the operator presses the backward switch of the movement operation switch (233a), the movement screw (231) rotates backward to move the movement body part (210) backward, thereby decreasing the length of the handle part (200).
[0101] When the movable body part (210) moves forward, the movable body part (210) is pulled out to the outside of the handle body part (220), increasing the total length of the handle part (200), and when the movable body part (210) moves backward, the movable body part (210) is inserted back into the inside of the handle body part (220), decreasing the total length of the handle part (200).
[0102] The handle portion (200) can be adjusted in length according to the treatment environment and the shape of the patient's face, thereby ensuring convenience during treatment and enabling quick response during treatment.
[0104] The present invention notifies the practitioner when a pressure exceeding a preset level is detected in the pressure sensor part (400) provided in the part where the tooth contacts, thereby preventing an accident in which the practitioner bends the blade part with excessive force and damages the patient's tooth.
[0105] In addition, the present invention can prevent damage to the patient's teeth when the laryngeal opening blade portion inserted into the patient's oral cavity is wrapped with an elastic material cover portion, thereby significantly improving safety during tracheal intubation. Furthermore, since there is no need to wear a mouth guard or similar device in the patient's oral cavity to prevent tooth damage, the burden of time and cost incurred by manufacturing a mouth guard is reduced, and it can be used quickly in emergency situations.
[0106] In addition, the present invention forms a groove in the part of the laryngeal opening blade where the teeth come into contact, thereby preventing tooth fracture and dislocation, which significantly improves safety during the use of the laryngoscope and prevents problems caused by tooth fracture and dislocation.
[0107] Although the present invention has been described in detail using preferred embodiments, the scope of the invention is not limited to specific embodiments and should be interpreted by the appended claims. Furthermore, those skilled in the art will understand that many modifications and variations are possible without departing from the scope of the invention. Explanation of the symbols
