Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a battery pack case and a vehicle including the same, wherein a fastening pipe connecting the vehicle body and the battery pack case is joined without penetrating a support member, thereby reducing manufacturing costs and processes and increasing design freedom. Background Technology
[0003] Recently, technologies for carbon reduction are being actively developed to address environmental issues such as abnormal temperatures. To achieve carbon reduction, energy must be produced using eco-friendly methods rather than relying on fossil fuels; the produced energy must be stored in the form of electricity; and this stored electricity should be utilized in vehicles, various industrial sites, and homes.
[0004] The use of batteries capable of storing and releasing electrical energy is essential for utilizing electrical energy for carbon reduction. Therefore, ensuring battery performance is crucial to sufficiently store electrical energy and use it without inconvenience.
[0005] Batteries primarily utilize the redox reactions of metal ions. To enhance capacity, charge / discharge performance, and efficiency, metal ions are used at high densities, and extensive research is being conducted on the materials constituting the electrolyte and solid electrolytes. However, generally speaking, there is a problem where stability decreases as battery performance improves.
[0006] Batteries used in vehicles, industries, and homes are manufactured in physical units called packs. A battery pack encloses multiple battery cells inside a battery case and seals them to prevent fire from spreading to the outside in the event of an accident such as thermal runaway, and to protect the internal battery cells from deteriorating due to the influence of the external environment or being damaged for physical reasons.
[0007] Multiple battery cells are embedded in a battery pack in an intermediate form of a module or assembly (CMA, Cell module assembly). In the case of a battery module or assembly, multiple battery cells are assembled into a single module or assembly, and multiple modules are connected inside a pack case to complete the battery pack. During battery maintenance, maintenance is facilitated by allowing maintenance to be performed at the unit level of these modules or assemblies.
[0008] Multiple unit battery cells constituting a module or assembly consist of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte. Since battery cells generate heat during charging and discharging, effective heat dissipation is required. Furthermore, from the perspective of battery modules, assemblies, and battery packs, a design for efficient heat dissipation is necessary to prevent safety accidents, and cooling structures such as cooling blocks are installed to achieve this.
[0009] To securely fasten the battery pack to the vehicle body, it can be connected via the central portion of the battery pack. In this central connection method, the battery pack is typically secured to the vehicle body using bolts that penetrate the bottom of the battery pack case and the support member located therein. However, to allow penetration through the bottom of the battery pack case and the support member, machining of battery pack components such as the support member and cooling block is unavoidable, and additional parts and processing, such as through-bolts, through-cups, and cup washers, are required. Furthermore, there were issues such as structural complexity of the battery pack case and the battery pack containing it, reduced design freedom, and consequently increased manufacturing costs and processes.

[0050] Hereinafter, embodiments disclosed in this specification will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. Identical or similar components regardless of drawing symbols are given the same reference number, and redundant descriptions thereof will be omitted.
[0052] FIG. 1 is a drawing showing a battery pack case according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a drawing showing a battery pack case according to another embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the AA' line of the battery pack case shown in FIG. 1, FIG. 4 is a drawing showing a cooling block according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 5 is a drawing showing a vehicle including a battery pack according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0054] The battery pack case of the present invention has the shape of a housing having an internal space. Since the battery pack case must protect the internal battery, it is formed from a material with relatively high rigidity. In particular, for batteries mounted in vehicles, collision resistance must be ensured and the spread of fire to the outside must be prevented in the event of an internal fire, so the battery pack case may be formed from a metal material. Furthermore, among metals, it may be formed from aluminum because formability must be ensured and the weight must be light. Of course, the battery pack case of the present invention is not limited only to the materials or shapes presented above.
[0055] For ease of assembly, the battery pack case may include a lower panel on which a plurality of batteries are seated, a front member coupled to the front of the lower panel, a rear member coupled to the rear of the lower panel, a pair of side members coupled to the side of the lower panel, and a support member coupled to the lower panel so as to cross the lower panel and positioned between the plurality of batteries. The lower panel, the front member, the rear member, the side members, and the support member may be combined in various ways, such as bonding, welding, or mechanical fastening, to form the battery pack case.
[0056] In addition, since the battery mounted in the battery pack generates heat during charging and discharging, a cooling block may be installed in the battery pack for effective heat dissipation. The cooling block may be positioned on the outer lower side of the lower panel, and a cooling medium may flow inside to cool the battery pack and effectively dissipate heat. To prevent the cooling medium from leaking out of the cooling block during flow, the part through which the cooling medium flows may be sealed from the outside.
[0057] In the illustrated embodiment, the lower panel forms the bottom surface, the front member forms the front surface, the rear member forms the rear surface, and a pair of side members form the sides to form an internal space, and a support member may be coupled to cross the lower panel. A plurality of batteries or battery modules may be placed in the internal space through the open top surface, and a support member may be placed between adjacent batteries. The open top surface of the battery pack case may be sealed through the upper panel. Additionally, a cooling block may be placed on the outer lower side of the lower panel.
[0058] Here, the lower panel, front member, rear member, side member, support member, and cooling block can be manufactured by extruding the entire unit or by welding multiple extruded parts, and can also be formed and processed through casting and pressing. In addition, in the case of extruded parts, it is possible to secure both lightweighting and rigidity by adopting a hollow structure, and in the case of cast parts, it may be possible to secure rigidity by manufacturing as a single unit, thereby improving dimensional accuracy and reducing joints. However, this is merely an example and is not limited to the above manufacturing methods.
[0060] In the case of a battery pack, multiple components are installed internally, such as multiple batteries, multiple members supporting the shape of the battery pack, and cooling blocks for effectively dissipating and cooling the heat generated by the batteries. As a result, the weight of the battery pack itself may increase, and to effectively secure the battery pack to the vehicle body, it may be necessary to secure it to the vehicle body not only through the perimeter, including the sides and front and rear, but also through the central portion.
[0061] In the central connection of such a battery pack, the battery pack is generally secured to the vehicle body via bolts that penetrate the bottom of the battery pack case and the support member located at the bottom of the case. Due to this penetration structure, machining of battery pack components such as the support member is unavoidable. Furthermore, the degree of design freedom is limited, and the structure can become complex, as additional parts such as penetration bolts, penetration cups, and cup washers are required for the penetration structure, and avoidance sections are formed to ensure sealing of the cooling medium flow area by avoiding the penetration structure. This may lead to additional problems, such as increased manufacturing costs and production processes.
[0062] Accordingly, the present invention provides a battery pack case including a fastening pipe that is coupled to a support member and can be coupled to a vehicle body without penetrating the bottom of the battery pack case and the support member in the connection of the central part of the battery pack, and a battery pack including the same and a vehicle, thereby proposing a method to prevent additional parts and design freedom limitations and structural complexity caused by a penetration structure.
[0064] FIG. 1 is a drawing showing a battery pack case according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a drawing showing a battery pack case according to another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the AA' line of the battery pack case shown in FIG. 1. The battery pack case of the present invention will be described with reference to the above.
[0065] The battery pack case of the present invention may include: a lower panel (100) on which a plurality of batteries (B) are seated; a support member (200) coupled to the lower panel (100) so as to cross the lower panel (100) and positioned between the plurality of batteries (B); a fastening pipe (300) coupled to the upper end of the support member (200), with the lower end fixed to the support member (200) and the upper end extending upward toward the vehicle body (10); and a fastening mechanism (400) that secures the vehicle body (10) and the fastening pipe (300) by being inserted into and coupled to the fastening pipe (300).
[0066] For example, a front member may be attached to the front of the lower panel (100), a rear member may be attached to the rear of the lower panel (100), and a pair of side members may be attached to the side of the lower panel (100). A flange that is attached to the vehicle body (10) may be formed protruding outwardly on the side members. The flange may be formed extending in the longitudinal direction of the battery pack. A plurality of attachment points that are attached to the vehicle body (10) may be formed on the flange, and these connections may be made in various ways, such as mechanical connections including bonding, welding, and bolting.
[0067] For example, the support member (200) may extend in the longitudinal or transverse direction of the battery pack case and may cross the center of the battery pack case. Additionally, the fastening pipe (300) may be attached to the top of the support member (200). The fastening pipe (300) may be located in the center of the battery pack case or in the center of the support member (200). Specifically, as shown in FIG. 1, the support member (200) may extend in the longitudinal direction of the battery pack case and cross the center of the width of the battery pack case, and the fastening pipe (300) may be attached to the top of the support member (200) and located at a point that is the center of the longitudinally extended support member (200) and the center of the battery pack case. A fastening mechanism (400) may be attached to the fastening pipe (300) to fasten the battery pack case to the vehicle body (10). Additionally, as shown in FIG. 3, the support member (200) can be placed between a plurality of adjacent batteries (B).
[0068] For example, the support member (200) may include a longitudinal member (210) extended in the longitudinal direction of the battery pack case and a transverse member (220) extended in the width direction and intersecting with the longitudinal member. The longitudinal member (210) and the transverse member (220) may each be provided in multiple numbers and may intersect at multiple intersection points (C).
[0069] Additionally, the connecting pipes (300) may be provided in multiple numbers and spaced apart from each other along the support member (200). Specifically, the connecting pipes may be connected to the support member at an intersection point (C) where the longitudinal member or the transverse member intersects, or at a point adjacent to the intersection point (C). The connecting pipes (300) may be arranged in a matrix form and positioned in the central part of the battery pack case. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 2, a plurality of longitudinal members (210) and a plurality of transverse members (220) may be joined so as to intersect each other and cross the lower panel (100), and a fastening pipe (300) may be placed at an intersection point (C) where the longitudinal members (210) or transverse members (220) intersect, and a fastening pipe (300) may be placed at a point adjacent to the intersection point (C) where the longitudinal members (210) and transverse members (220) intersect.
[0070] For example, the support member (200) may be an extruded product formed through an extrusion process and may have a hollow structure having a cavity in the center. In the hollow of the support member (200), a reinforcing member (201) may be formed that extends in the same direction as the support member (200) and connects the inner surfaces facing each other. Additionally, multiple reinforcing members (201) may be provided and may intersect each other to form a load path. Through this structure, the support member (200) can be lightweight through the hollow structure, and at the same time, the support member (200) can be formed to be robust against external impacts and loads through the reinforcing members (201). Specifically, as shown in FIG. 2, the support member (200) may be an extruded product with a hollow structure, and multiple reinforcing members (201) may be arranged in a cross shape within the hollow and intersect each other perpendicularly to support the hollow of the support member (200).
[0071] For example, the connecting pipe (300) may be closed at one end by the supporting member (200) and open at the other end toward the vehicle body (10). The upper surface of the supporting member (200) is flat, and the lower end of the connecting pipe (300) may be closed by being joined to the upper surface of the supporting member (200), and the connecting pipe (300) may be joined to the supporting member (200) without penetrating the supporting member (200). Additionally, the connecting pipe (300) and the supporting member (200) may be joined in various ways, such as adhesive bonding or welding. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the lower end of the fastening pipe (300) is connected to the upper surface of a flat support member (200), and the upper end of the fastening pipe (300) is open toward the vehicle body (10), so that a fastening mechanism (400) can be inserted into the upper end of the fastening pipe (300) to secure the vehicle body (10) and the fastening pipe (300). In addition, through the connection of the fastening mechanism (400) and the fastening pipe (300), the upper panel (600) can be connected to the battery pack case, and the battery pack case of the present invention can be connected to the vehicle body (10). Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the fastening mechanism (400) penetrates the vehicle body (10) and the upper panel (600) and is inserted into the fastening pipe (300), so that the upper panel (600) is connected to the battery pack case and the battery pack case can be connected to the vehicle body (10).
[0072] Additionally, the connection between the fastening mechanism (400) and the fastening pipe (300) can be joined in various ways, such as adhesive or bolting. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, screw threads are formed on the inner surface of the fastening pipe (300), and the fastening mechanism (400) is a bolt corresponding to the fastening pipe (300), so that the fastening pipe (300) and the fastening mechanism (400) can be joined through a bolting structure. Through this structure, the fastening pipe (300) is firmly fixed to the vehicle body (10), so that the upper panel (600) can be attached to the battery pack case, and the battery pack case can be effectively fastened to the vehicle body (10).
[0074] FIG. 4 is a drawing showing a cooling block according to an embodiment of the present invention. With reference to this, the battery pack of the present invention will be described further with the cooling block as the focus.
[0075] The battery pack case of the present invention may further include a cooling block (500) that is coupled to the outer surface of a lower panel (100) and has a cooling channel (510) formed therein through which a cooling medium flows.
[0076] For example, the lower panel (100) and the cooling block (500) can be joined in various ways, such as adhesive bonding or mechanical fastening. Specifically, the cooling block (500) can be joined by mutual contact with the outer surface of the lower panel (100). An adhesive can be applied to the flat surface between the perimeter of the lower panel (100) and the zigzag-extended cooling channel so that the lower panel (100) and the cooling block (500) can be joined. Through this structure, the contact area is maximized to increase the contact surface area between the lower panel (100) and the cooling block (500), thereby securing a strong bond and a large heat exchange area, enabling efficient battery pack cooling.
[0077] The cooling block (500) may include an inlet section (511) into which a cooling medium flows into the cooling block and an outlet section (512) into which a cooling medium flows out of the cooling block. The inlet section (511) and the outlet section (512) may be formed adjacent to each other and may be formed in the front section of the cooling block (500). More specifically, as shown in FIG. 4, an inlet section (122) and an outlet section (123) connected to the cooling channel (510) of the cooling block (500) may be formed adjacently on the outer edge of the front section of the cooling block (500).
[0078] For example, the cooling channel (510) may extend along the length of the battery pack case, then be bent to extend along the width, and then be bent again to extend along the length, and such bending may be repeated, and the cooling channel (510) may be connected as one. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 4, the cooling channel (510) may have a shape that extends in a zigzag direction. Through this structure, the cooling area can be maximized to increase cooling efficiency and secure an excellent thermal balancing effect.
[0079] Additionally, a partition wall (513) that guides the flow of a cooling medium may be formed in the cooling channel (510), and the partition wall (513) may be formed inside the cooling channel and have a protruding shape. A plurality of the partition walls (513) may be formed in the cooling channel (510), and a gap may exist between adjacent partition walls (513). The width of the cooling channel (510) is reduced by the partition walls (513), so that the flow of the cooling medium flowing through the cooling channel (510) can be accelerated. Additionally, since a gap exists between adjacent partition walls (513), the cooling medium flowing between adjacent partition walls (513) can be mixed with each other through the gap, enabling more efficient cooling.
[0080] Additionally, the cooling channel (510) may be formed to extend in a direction parallel to the support member (200) while avoiding the point where the support member is located, and the side end of the cooling channel (510) adjacent to the support member may have a straight line shape parallel to the support member (200). Since the battery pack case of the present invention does not have a penetrating structure penetrating the lower panel (100), the support member (200), and the cooling block (500), the cooling channel (510) does not need to avoid the penetrating structure and can be formed adjacent to the side end of the support member (200) in a straight line shape parallel to it. Through this structure, the width and area of the cooling channel (510) can be maximized, thereby enabling more effective battery pack cooling. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 4, the cooling channel (510) may extend in the longitudinal direction of the battery pack case while avoiding the point where the support member (200) is located. Additionally, the side end adjacent to the support member of the cooling channel (510) may have a straight shape parallel to the support member (200).
[0082] FIG. 5 is a drawing showing a vehicle equipped with a battery pack according to an embodiment of the present invention. With reference to this, a vehicle including the battery pack of the present invention will be described.
[0083] A battery can be mounted in the battery pack case of the present invention to form a battery pack. In addition, the battery pack according to one embodiment of the present invention can be applied to a battery pack (BP) of various vehicles (V), such as internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles, and can also be applied to a battery pack (BP) in various fields, such as industrial ESS (Energy Storage System), home ESS, and small battery packs, in addition to vehicles (V).
[0085] Although specific embodiments of the present invention have been illustrated and described, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the present invention can be modified and changed in various ways without departing from the technical spirit of the invention as provided by the following claims.
