Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an electrode production device, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, a battery pack including the battery cell, and an automobile. More specifically, the invention relates to an electrode production device capable of improving electrode quality, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, a battery pack including the battery cell, and an automobile. Background Technology

[0002] Generally, a secondary battery refers to a battery capable of repeated charging and discharging, such as lithium-ion batteries, lithium-polymer batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries, and nickel-zinc batteries.

[0003] Secondary batteries can be classified according to the shape of the battery case into cylindrical batteries and prismatic batteries in which the electrode assembly is embedded in a cylindrical or prismatic metal can, and pouch-type batteries in which the electrode assembly is embedded in a pouch-type case made of aluminum laminate sheet.

[0004] Such secondary batteries can be manufactured by housing an electrode assembly comprising a positive electrode and a negative electrode stacked with a separator in between, an electrolyte material, in a case of various shapes, and sealing the case.

[0005] The electrode (positive or negative electrode) of a secondary battery may include a retaining portion in which a coating layer is formed by pressing an electrode composite onto the surface of an electrode foil, and a non-retaining portion in which the coating layer is not formed.

[0006] Furthermore, the electrodes of a secondary battery can be produced through a roll-to-roll process in which an electrode foil with a coating layer formed on its surface is wound and moved between rolls. In this process, the electrode foil is rolled by a rolling roll as it moves through the rolls. However, since the rolling roll presses the holding portion but does not come into contact with the unholding portion, a difference in elongation occurs between the holding portion and the unholding portion. Consequently, wrinkles or ripples may form on the unholding portion, leading to a problem where the quality of the electrode deteriorates. The problem to be solved

[0030] FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of a non-pressure unit in an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a non-pressure unit in an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along A-A' of FIG. 2, FIG. 5 is a drawing showing a modified embodiment of FIG. 4, and FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along B-B' of FIG. 2.

[0031] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention relates to a device for producing an electrode (anode or a cathode) by transporting an electrode foil (900) having a coating layer (910) formed thereon. The concept of an electrode includes both wet electrodes and dry electrodes.

[0032] For example, a wet electrode is manufactured by applying an electrode mixture in the form of a slurry containing a solvent to the surface of an electrode substrate, such as an electrode foil (900), to form a coating layer (910), and drying the coating layer (910).

[0033] And, the dry electrode is manufactured through a process of forming a coating layer (910) by pressing an electrode mixture in the form of a powder (powder mixture) that does not contain a solvent onto the surface of an electrode foil (900). That is, the electrode mixture is mixed without a liquid medium such as a solvent or a dispersion medium, and then manufactured by pressing the electrode mixture in the form of a powder while passing it through, for example, a rolling roll.

[0034] Here, the electrode foil (900) may include a retaining portion (920) on which a coating layer (910) of an active material is formed on the surface, and a non-retaining portion (930) on which the coating layer (910) of the active material is not formed.

[0035] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a transfer unit (100), a holding pressure unit (200) (200), and a non-hold pressure unit (300).

[0036] The transfer unit (100) transfers the electrode foil (900) having a coating layer (910) formed thereon. The transfer unit (100) may be varied, for example, may include a plurality of transfer rollers (110) to transfer the electrode foil (900) in a roll-to-roll manner.

[0037] However, although the transfer unit (100) is not limited thereto, for convenience of explanation, an embodiment in which the transfer unit (100) includes a plurality of transfer rollers (110) will be described below. Also, in FIG. 1, the arrow indicates the transfer direction of the electrode foil (900).

[0038] The holding pressure unit (200) pressurizes the holding portion (920) of the electrode foil (900) being transported by the transport unit (100). The holding pressure unit (200) can be configured in various ways and, for example, may include a pressure roller (210), but is not limited thereto.

[0039] Referring to FIG. 1, a coating layer (910) of an active material is formed on the retaining portion (920) of the electrode foil (900), and since the coating layer (910) is not formed on the uncoated portion (930), the retaining portion (920) is thicker than the uncoated portion (930).

[0040] Here, if only the retaining portion (920) is pressurized by the retaining pressurizing unit (200), the unpressurized portion (930) may develop wrinkles or ripples or undergo deformation while being transported by the transport roller (110). To prevent the formation of such wrinkles or ripples or deformation of the unpressurized portion (930), the electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an unpressurized pressurizing unit (300). However, even if the unpressurized portion (930) is pressurized by the unpressurized pressurizing unit (300), a difference in elongation rate may occur between the retaining portion (930) and the unpressurized portion (930).

[0041] Accordingly, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a heat supply member (400) to minimize the difference in elongation rate between the retaining part (930) and the unretained part (930), and a detailed explanation thereof will be provided later.

[0042] The non-retaining pressure unit (300) is spaced apart from the retaining pressure unit (200) and pressurizes the non-retaining part (930).

[0043] Referring to FIG. 2, the non-pressure unit (300) may include a rotating roller (310) and a protrusion (312). Additionally, a non-protrusion (313) is formed on the side of the protrusion (312).

[0044] Referring to FIG. 1, the rotating roller (310) rotates in contact with the electrode foil (900). The way the rotating roller (310) rotates can vary. For example, it can rotate while coupled to a belt (316, see FIG. 3).

[0045] Referring to FIGS. 2 and FIGS. 3, the rotating roller (310) may include a rotating body (311) and a rotating shaft (315).

[0046] A space may be formed inside the rotating body (311). In addition, a heat supply member (400) and a cooling member (700), which will be described later, may be installed in the space inside the rotating body (311). The heat supply member (400) may be provided on the inside of the protrusion (312), and the cooling member (700) may be provided on the inside of the non-protrusion (313).

[0047] The rotation shaft (315) extends integrally from the rotating body (311) and rotates together with the rotating body (311). The rotation shaft (315) may be configured to rotate by being coupled to a belt (316). That is, for example, when the belt (316) wound around the rotation shaft (315) rotates, the rotation shaft (315) coupled to the belt (316) also rotates together. However, the rotation method of the rotation shaft (315) is not limited to this. The belt (316) may be connected to various driving sources, such as a motor, to rotate.

[0048] The rotating shaft (315) may have a hollow formed in the center, and may be configured so that the fixed member (600) passes through the rotating roller (310) through the hollow of the rotating shaft (315).

[0049] Referring to FIG. 3, the fixed member (600) passes through the rotating roller (310) via the rotating shaft (315) and is fixed to the outside. For example, as described above, since a hollow is formed in the rotating shaft (315), the fixed member (600) passes through the hollow of the rotating shaft (315) and the rotating body (311).

[0050] Here, the fixed member (600) can be coupled to and supported by a support (620) positioned on the outside of the rotating roller (310). Additionally, various types of bearings (610) can be coupled between the fixed member (600) and the rotating shaft (315). In this way, when the fixed member (600) passes through the rotating shaft (315) and the rotating body (311) and is coupled to and fixed by the support (620) on the outside of the rotating roller (310), the fixed member (600) does not rotate even if the rotating shaft (315) and the rotating body (311) rotate.

[0051] At this time, since a bearing (610) can be coupled between the fixed member (600) and the rotating shaft (315), friction between the rotating shaft (315) and the fixed member (600) is reduced.

[0052] And, referring again to FIG. 3, the power supply line (420) of the heat supply member (400) described later and the connecting channel (720) of the cooling member (700) can pass through between the fixed members (600). That is, the power supply line (420) of the heat supply member (400) and the connecting channel (720) of the cooling member (700) can be installed inside the fixed members (600). As a result, even if the rotating shaft (315) and the rotating body (311) rotate, the power supply line (420) and the connecting channel (720) do not rotate, so twisting or interference can be prevented.

[0053] One or more protrusions (312) are provided and formed to protrude from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310). For example, one or more protrusions (312) may protrude from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310) at a predetermined interval.

[0054] Additionally, the protrusion (312) may be formed integrally with the rotating body (311). However, the protrusion (312) does not necessarily have to be formed integrally with the rotating body (311), and the protrusion (312) may be detachably coupled to the rotating body (311).

[0055] Referring to FIG. 1, the protrusion (312) protrudes from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310) so that it can come into contact with the unworn part (930) and also press the unworn part (930) of the electrode foil (900).

[0056] Referring to FIG. 3, a heat supply member (400) is provided in the non-removable part pressurization unit (300) to supply heat to the non-removable part (930). For example, the heat supply member (400) can be mounted on the inside of the protrusion (312).

[0057] The heat supply member (400) may include a heater part (410), a power supply line (420), and a power source (430).

[0058] The heater unit (410) can be installed inside the protrusion (312). The heater unit (410) can be installed in various directions. Also, the heater unit (410) can be installed in various numbers. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, one heater unit (410) can be installed facing downward relative to FIG. 4.

[0059] And, referring to FIG. 5 as a modified embodiment, three heater sections (410) may be installed facing left, right, and downward. However, this is only one embodiment, and the direction and number of heater sections (410) may vary. For example, a plurality of heater sections (410) may be provided and arranged along the circumference of the protrusion (312).

[0060] The heater unit (410) supplies heat to the internal space of the protrusion (312), thereby raising the temperature of the protrusion (312). As described above, the protrusion (312) contacts the bare portion (930) and presses the bare portion (930). Therefore, when the protrusion (312), whose temperature has been raised by the heater unit (410), presses the bare portion (930), the elongation rate of the bare portion (930) can be maximized by the heat. As a result, the difference in elongation rates between the retaining portion (920) and the bare portion (930) can be minimized.

[0061] Meanwhile, the heater unit (410) may be a wireless heater that operates wirelessly.

[0062] The power supply line (420) is connected to the heater unit (410) and transmits energy (e.g., electric energy) supplied from the power source (430) to the heater unit (410). The power supply line (420) includes various types of wires through which electricity flows.

[0063] The power supply line (420) is connected to the heater unit (410) through the fixed member (600), and since the fixed member (600) is fixed even when the rotating roller (310) rotates, the power supply line (420) does not rotate, and thus, the twisting of the power supply line (420) can be prevented.

[0064] The power supply source (430) supplies power to the heater unit (410) through the power supply line (420). The power supply source (430) can be various, for example, various batteries that supply electrical energy to the heater unit (410), but is not limited thereto.

[0065] The temperature sensor (500) is configured to measure the temperature inside the protrusion (312). The temperature sensor (500) may be coupled to the inside or outside of the protrusion (312). The temperature sensor (500) may be connected to the control unit (510) via a wire, but may also be controlled wirelessly by the control unit (510). When the temperature sensor (500) is connected to the control unit (510) via a wire, the temperature sensor (500) may be installed on the fixed member (600).

[0066] The control unit (510) controls the operation of the heater unit (410) based on the temperature inside the protrusion (312) measured by the temperature sensor (500). The temperature of the protrusion (312) at which the difference in elongation rate between the retaining unit (920) and the non-retaining unit (930) can be minimized may vary depending on the model of the battery cell (20). Here, the optimal temperature of the protrusion (312) for each model can be determined through experimentation.

[0067] Then, the optimal temperature of the protrusion (312) for each model is pre-entered into the control unit (510), and the control unit (510) compares the actual temperature of the protrusion (312) measured by the temperature sensor (500) with the optimal temperature entered into the control unit (510) and controls the operation of the heater unit (410) according to the result.

[0068] For example, if the actual temperature measured at the protrusion (312) is lower than the optimal temperature input to the control unit (510), the control unit (510) controls the heater unit (410) to increase the temperature, and if the actual temperature measured at the protrusion (312) is higher than the optimal temperature input to the control unit (510), the control unit (510) controls the heater unit (410) to decrease the temperature.

[0069] Referring to FIG. 3, a cooling member (700) can be installed on the non-protruding part (313) of the non-pressurized unit (300). The cooling member (700) prevents the temperature of the non-protruding part (313) from rising due to heat provided from the heat supply member (400) installed on the protruding part (312).

[0070] That is, the non-protruding portion (313) comes into contact with the retaining portion (920) of the electrode foil (900). When the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) rises, the elongation rate of the retaining portion (920) increases, and as a result, the difference in elongation rate between the retaining portion (920) and the non-retaining portion (930) also increases.

[0071] Accordingly, the cooling member (700) prevents the temperature of the non-protruding part (313) from rising, thereby preventing an increase in the elongation rate of the retaining part (920). Additionally, the heat supply member (400) raises the temperature of the protruding part (312) to increase the elongation rate of the unsupported part (930), thereby minimizing the difference in elongation rates between the retaining part (920) and the unsupported part (930).

[0072] Referring to FIGS. 3 and FIGS. 6, the cooling member (700) includes a spray nozzle (710), a connecting channel (720), and a fluid supply source (730).

[0073] The spray nozzle (710) is mounted on the non-protruding part (313) of the non-pressurized unit (300) and sprays cooling fluid onto the non-protruding part (313). Then, the connecting passage (720) is connected to the spray nozzle (710) so that fluid supplied from the fluid supply source (730) moves to the spray nozzle (710).

[0074] And, the fluid supply source (730) is connected to the connecting channel (720) and supplies fluid to the injection nozzle (710) through the connecting channel (720). Here, the fluid may be air or water, but is not limited thereto. And, as described above, the connecting channel (720) of the cooling member (700) may pass between the fixed members (600).

[0075] Meanwhile, a blocking partition (800) may be formed between the protrusion (312) and the non-protrusion (313) to block heat supplied to the protrusion (312) from moving to the non-protrusion (313). Here, the blocking partition (800) may be formed of a material having lower thermal conductivity than the rotating roller (310).

[0076] The blocking partition (800) can be coupled to the rotating body (311) and can rotate together with the rotating body (311). Here, the blocking partition (800) can be spaced apart from the fixed member (600) by a preset distance (810, see enlarged portion of FIG. 3) so as not to interfere with the fixed member (600) when the blocking partition (800) rotates.

[0077] In an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention, heat supplied by a heat supply member (400) installed on a protrusion (312) raises the temperature of the protrusion (312), but does not raise the temperature of the non-protrusion (313) by means of a blocking partition (800).

[0078] However, even if there is a blocking partition (800), heat from the protrusion (312) can be transferred to the non-protrusion (313), and also, for example, as described above, heat can be transferred from the protrusion (312) to the non-protrusion (313) through the gap (810) formed between the blocking partition (800) and the fixing member (600). However, in this case, the cooling member (700) installed on the non-protrusion (313) can lower the temperature of the non-protrusion (313) to maintain a preset appropriate temperature.

[0079] By doing so, the difference in elongation between the retaining portion (920) and the unretained portion (930) of the electrode foil (900) can be minimized, and the electrode quality can also be improved.

[0080] FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of a battery pack including a battery cell equipped with an electrode produced using an electrode production device according to each embodiment of the present invention.

[0081] Referring to FIG. 7, a battery pack (30) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20). Here, the battery cell (20) includes an electrode produced using an electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention as described above.

[0082] Additionally, the battery pack (30) may further include a pack housing (31) for housing a battery cell (20), and various devices for controlling the charging and discharging of the battery cell (20), such as a BMS, a current sensor, a fuse, etc.

[0083] Figure 8 is a drawing for explaining a vehicle including the battery pack of Figure 7.

[0084] Referring to FIG. 8, a vehicle (40) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20) or battery packs (30) including electrodes produced using an electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention. Here, the vehicle (40) includes various vehicles configured to use electricity, such as, for example, electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles.
