Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an MCDI device for removing ionic substances. Background Technology

[0003] Ionic liquids have the property of dissolving various organic and inorganic materials and gases, possess environmental stability due to their very low vapor pressure, are thermally stable up to approximately 300 degrees, and allow for various property modifications to suit specific application purposes using only simple combinations of cations and anions. In other words, it is possible to design appropriate ionic liquids according to their intended use. In this sense, ionic liquids are also referred to as "designer solvents."

[0004] As such, while the production capacity of global ionic liquid manufacturers is expanding due to increasing demand for ionic liquids that can be beneficially used in various industrial fields, there is currently a problem in that the manufacturing process of ionic liquids is very expensive.

[0005] Ionic liquids can be classified into hydrophobic or hydrophilic ionic liquids based on their solubility in water. This depends on the anion of the ionic liquid. For example, if the anion is Cl-, it is hydrophilic, and if it is PF6-, it is hydrophobic.

[0006] The purification method for hydrophobic ionic liquids utilizes their property of not dissolving in water by using water as the purification solvent. In this process, a trace amount of the hydrophobic ionic liquid dissolves into the water along with the inorganic salt.

[0007] Methods for synthesizing hydrophilic ionic liquids or recovering trace amounts of ionic liquids present in aqueous solutions after use include distillation, CO2 hydrate, aqueous biphasic systems, electrodialysis processes, and refrigerant absorption methods. Distillation and CO2 hydrate methods have the disadvantage of requiring heat and chemicals.

[0008] In addition, aqueous biphasic systems have the disadvantage that salts, such as byproducts, are formed within the concentrated / recovered ionic liquid.

[0009] Furthermore, in the case of the electrodialysis process, there is a problem in that acids and bases must be used to regenerate the used membrane.

[0010] Patent Document 1 discloses a method for effectively recovering water and ionic liquids through electrodialysis and membrane separation processes. However, it has the disadvantage of not being environmentally friendly because chemicals such as acids and bases are used to regenerate the used membrane.

[0011] Patent Document 2 discloses an invention filed by the applicant's research team that purifies an ionic liquid using a refrigerant. However, while this purification method is effective for recovering high concentrations of ionic liquid, there is a problem in that it is not suitable for recovering small amounts of ionic liquid because small amounts of ionic liquid tend to dissolve into the aqueous solution layer. [0017] At this time, the deionized MCDI filtration module is configured to include a pair of electrodes coated with a cation exchange membrane and an anion exchange membrane, and a spacer through which treated water passes between the electrodes; the deionized MCDI filtration module is provided in multiple numbers; the multiple deionized MCDI filtration modules are grouped and distinguished; and when one group of deionized MCDI filtration modules performs a water purification mode, at least one other group of deionized MCDI filtration modules can be controlled to perform a regeneration mode.

[0018] In addition, it may be configured to further include a storage module that is connected to the power module to receive and charge voltage during purification mode, and is connected to the deionized MCDI filter module to use the charged power during regeneration mode to apply the regeneration voltage to the deionized MCDI filter module.

[0019] In addition, one or more of the above-mentioned capacitor modules may be provided for each group of the above-mentioned deionized MCDI filtration modules.

[0020] In addition, the above-mentioned capacitor module may be formed such that the discharge voltage intensity gradually decreases, thereby causing the regeneration voltage to gradually decrease.

[0021] In addition, the control unit may be configured to include a switch unit that controls the electrical connection status of the power module, the deionized MCDI filtration module, and the capacitor module according to the purification mode and the regeneration mode.

[0022] And the control unit is configured to further include a regeneration measurement means for detecting the mode change timing of the deionized MCDI filtration module; and the control unit may control the switch unit by means of a signal received from the regeneration measurement means.

[0023] Additionally, the above-mentioned playback time is formed by the set maintenance time of the above-mentioned integer mode, and the above-mentioned playback measuring means may be a timer that measures the maintenance time of the above-mentioned integer mode.

[0024] And the above regeneration time is formed at the set ion concentration of the treated water discharged during the above purification mode; and the above regeneration measuring means may measure the ion concentration of the treated water discharged during the above purification mode. Effects of the invention

[0026] The MCDI device according to the present invention provides the following effects.

[0027] First, in the water purification mode, the water purification voltage is supplied through the power module, and in the regeneration mode, the charging voltage of the capacitor module charged in the water purification mode is supplied instead of an external power source and utilized as the regeneration voltage, thereby saving electrical energy and reducing energy costs.

[0028] Second, by utilizing the characteristic that the voltage intensity discharged from the capacitor module gradually decreases, the regeneration voltage is naturally and gradually reduced, thereby effectively preventing the re-adsorption of ion filtration materials onto the electrode during the regeneration mode and improving regeneration efficiency.

[0029] Third, by utilizing the characteristic that the discharge voltage intensity of the capacitor module gradually decreases according to the charge amount, the regeneration voltage is supplied without the need for separate voltage control; therefore, unlike conventional methods where voltage control during regeneration mode is difficult, the control of the regeneration mode is easy.

[0030] Fourth, the structure of the entire MCDI device, including the integer mode and the regeneration mode, is simple, making it easy and economical to manufacture. Brief explanation of the drawing

[0033] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings.

[0034] First, referring to FIG. 1, an MCDI device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a deionized MCDI filtration module (100), a power module (200), a control unit (200), and a storage module (300).

[0035] The above deionized MCDI filtration module (100) includes a pair of electrodes (110, 120) spaced apart from each other and through which treated water flows. Here, the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) may include the pair of electrodes (110, 120) spaced apart from each other by a spacer through which treated water can pass, and a case that accommodates the electrodes (110, 120) and through which the treated water flows in and purified water and washing water flow out. Since this configuration can utilize a filter module using a known deionization method, a detailed description thereof is omitted.

[0036] At this time, the electrodes may each be coated with a cation exchange membrane or an anion exchange membrane.

[0037] When a water purification voltage is applied to the pair of electrodes (110, 120) of the above deionized MCDI filtration module (100), the ion filtration material contained in the treated water is adsorbed onto the surface of the electrodes (110, 120), and a water purification mode is performed to filter the treated water.

[0038] In addition, as the water purification mode of the above deionized MCDI filtration module (100) continues, the ion filtration material accumulates excessively on the surface of the electrodes (110, 120) and becomes saturated, thereby reducing the water purification effect, and a transition to a regeneration mode is made to resolve this. Here, unlike the water purification mode, the regeneration mode is configured such that the ion filtration material adsorbed on the surface of the electrodes (110, 120) is desorbed by applying a regeneration voltage after changing the polarity of the electrodes (110, 120), thereby allowing the cleaning process (regeneration mode) of the electrodes (110, 120) to be performed.

[0039] The above power module (200) is a part that supplies power through a power supply line (201), and may use an external power supply unit that receives power from a known external source or a power supply unit that generates its own power to obtain its own power, and a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0040] Meanwhile, the control unit (400) selectively provides power supplied from the power module (200) to the deionization filtration module (100) and the capacitor module (300) according to the operating state of the MCDI device according to the present invention. To this end, it is configured to include a switch unit (420) capable of controlling electrical connections, which will be explained in detail later.

[0041] The above-mentioned capacitor module (300) is arranged in parallel with the above-mentioned deionized MCDI filter module (100) with respect to the above-mentioned power module (200). The above-mentioned capacitor module (300) is connected to a pair of electrodes (110, 120) of the above-mentioned power module (200) and the above-mentioned MCDI filter module (100), respectively, and charges by receiving voltage from the above-mentioned power module (200) during the purification mode, and supplies regeneration voltage by discharging the charged voltage to the above-mentioned MCDI filter module (100) during the regeneration mode.

[0042] Meanwhile, when the above-mentioned capacitor module (300) discharges the voltage charged to the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) for a certain period of time while the power module (200) is not supplying voltage, the charged voltage is gradually consumed, and the discharge voltage intensity also gradually decreases. Accordingly, the regeneration voltage supplied to the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) also gradually decreases, so that the ionized filtration material is effectively prevented from being re-adsorbed onto the electrodes (110, 120) during the regeneration mode, thereby improving the regeneration efficiency.

[0043] That is, in the regeneration mode described above, the ion filtration material initially adsorbed due to the regeneration voltage is desorbed, but after a certain amount of regeneration time has elapsed and the desorption of the ion filtration material onto the surface of the electrode (110, 120) proceeds, an ion filtration material having a polarity corresponding to that of the ion filtration material is re-adsorbed onto the surface of the electrode (110, 120) from which the ion filtration material has been desorbed. For this reason, in order to prevent the ion filtration material from being re-adsorbed onto the electrode (110, 120) during this regeneration mode, separate control of the regeneration voltage is required during the regeneration mode.

[0044] However, as described above, since the regeneration voltage intensity of the above-described capacitor module (300) gradually decreases when no voltage is supplied from the outside, the MCDI device does not require strict control of the regeneration voltage unlike conventional devices and does not require separate voltage control, making control and maintenance easy.

[0045] The above capacitor module (300) is configured to include a capacitor, receives power from the control unit (400) through a charge / discharge line (301), and provides power to the deionization filtration module (100) through the control unit (400).

[0046] That is, the capacitor receives power supplied from the power module (200) and is charged, and plays the role of discharging the charged power to the deionized MCDI filter module (100) as a regeneration voltage.

[0047] The above capacitor may utilize a known charge-collecting device as a capacitor, and a detailed description thereof will be omitted. The above capacitor can be designed by adjusting its capacity in consideration of the capacity of the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) and the strength of the regeneration voltage during the regeneration mode.

[0048] The above charging / discharging line (301) electrically connects the capacitor and the control unit (400) to receive voltage from the control unit (400) and allows it to be charged.

[0049] Meanwhile, the control unit (400) is configured to include the switch unit (420) as shown in FIG. 4, and the control unit (400) has the role of selectively connecting / blocking the flow of power in response to the integer mode and the regeneration mode.

[0050] That is, the control unit (400) controls the circuit connection so that, in the purification mode, power provided from the power module (200) is provided to the charging module (300) and the deionization filtration module (100) through the switch unit (320), and in the regeneration mode, power inflow from the power module (200) is blocked and power charged in the charging module (300) is provided to the deionization filtration module (100).

[0051] Meanwhile, the control unit (400) includes a regeneration measuring means (410) for detecting the regeneration time of the deionized MCDI filtration module (100). Here, the regeneration time may be set to a set maintenance time of the water purification mode, and in this case, the regeneration measuring means (410) may be a timer for measuring the maintenance time of the water purification mode.

[0052] Alternatively, the regeneration time may be set to a set ion concentration of the treated water discharged during the purification mode, and in this case, the regeneration measuring means (410) may be an ion measuring sensor that measures the ion concentration of the treated water discharged during the purification mode.

[0053] Alternatively, the regeneration time may simultaneously consider the above-mentioned water purification mode maintenance time and information regarding the ion concentration of the treated water. In this case, the control unit (400) controls the switching between the water purification mode and the regeneration mode after the set water purification mode maintenance time has elapsed and the ion concentration of the treated water falls within the set range.

[0054] That is, the control unit (400) controls the switch unit (420) according to the result value determined from the regeneration measurement means (410) to change the power supply state for executing the regeneration mode and the integer mode.

[0055] Meanwhile, the control unit (400) according to the present invention may also set a delay time (t) until power is applied to the charging module (300) when switching from the regeneration mode to the integer mode in order to use the power provided from the power module (200) as efficiently as possible.

[0056] That is, when examining the current amount of the MCDI device according to the present invention, the current amount increases initially when the water purification mode is executed because the adsorption efficiency of the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) is high.

[0057] Afterwards, as ionic substances are gradually adsorbed onto the electrode pair (110, 120), the current amount decreases.

[0058] Meanwhile, the charging module (300) is a part that supplies power after the conversion to the regeneration mode, and it is sufficient if it is fully charged regardless of the time during the execution of the integer mode.

[0059] Accordingly, when the power consumption of the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) is high during the initial stage of the water purification mode, the power supply to the charging module (300) is cut off so that all the power from the power module (200) is supplied to the deionized MCDI filtration module (100), and after a certain period of time, the power consumption of the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) is reduced, so that the charging module (300) is charged, the power supplied by the power module (200) can be used efficiently throughout the water purification mode display.

[0060] Meanwhile, FIG. 2 is a configuration diagram showing the configuration of an MCDI device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0061] As illustrated in FIG. 2, another embodiment of the present invention has a power module (200), a storage module (300), and a deionized MCDI filter module (100) connected sequentially in series via a control unit (400).

[0062] In this case, when the MCDI device is in water purification mode, a water purification voltage is applied from the power module (200) to the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) via the capacitor module (300), and the charging in the capacitor module (300) and the water purification process in the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) are performed simultaneously.

[0063] On the other hand, in the regeneration mode of the MCDI device, the power supply of the power module (200) is interrupted, and the power charged from the storage module (300) is provided to the deionized MCDI filtration module (100) with the polarity of the purification mode and the terminal, and the regeneration process is performed in the deionized MCDI filtration module (100).

[0064] In the above case, the switching of the MCDI device between the integer mode and the regeneration mode is determined by whether the power supply is cut off by the control unit (400). That is, the control unit (400) selectively cuts off and supplies power to the power module (200) to select the integer mode and the regeneration mode.

[0065] According to the above, the MCDI device can simplify the configuration of the control unit (400), and the electrical connection structure between the capacitor module (300) and the deionized MCDI filter module (100) can be simple, so the structure can be simplified.

[0066] Figure 3 illustrates an example of the configuration of an actual facility according to the present invention.

[0067] As illustrated herein, the actual MCDI device according to the present invention is configured to include a plurality of deionized MCDI filtration modules (100) to maintain a constant amount of purified water.

[0068] That is, in the actual water purification device, even when some deionized MCDI filtration modules (100) are in a regeneration mode, the remaining deionized MCDI filtration modules (100) are in a purification mode so that a certain amount of purified water can be continuously produced.

[0069] In the illustrated example, an embodiment is shown in which two deionized MCDI filtration modules (100a, 100b) are installed.

[0070] That is, in the case of the illustrated embodiment, the MCDI device includes a first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a), a second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b), a power module (200), a first capacitor module (300a), a second capacitor module (300b), and a control unit (400).

[0071] The above MCDI device can enable continuous purification of treated water by alternately operating the first deionizing MCDI filtration module (100a) and the second deionizing MCDI filtration module (100b) in purification mode and regeneration mode, respectively.

[0072] The first deionizing MCDI filtration module (100a) includes a pair of electrodes (110, 120) that adsorb ion filtration substances contained in the treated water by an applied water purification voltage during the water purification mode, and desorb the adsorbed ion filtration substances by an applied regeneration voltage during the regeneration mode.

[0073] The second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) is arranged in parallel with the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and is operated such that the water purification mode and the regeneration mode alternate with the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b). It includes a pair of electrodes (110, 120) that adsorb ion filtration material during the water purification mode and desorb ion filtration material during the regeneration mode.

[0074] Here, the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) correspond to the configuration of the deionized MCDI filtration module of FIG. 1 described above, so a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0075] The power module (200) supplies the above-mentioned constant voltage to the first deionization MCDI filter module (100a) and the second deionization filter module, respectively, and supplies voltage to the first capacitor module (300a) and the second capacitor module (300b) to charge them.

[0076] To this end, the control unit (400) is configured to include a switch unit (420), and the control unit (400) applies voltage to the first capacitor module (300a) to charge it during the water purification mode of the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a), and applies a water purification voltage to the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a) to execute the water purification mode.

[0077] At this time, since the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b) is in regeneration mode, the control unit (400) cuts off the constant voltage applied to the second capacitor module (300b) and the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b). Then, the control unit (400) uses the power charged in the second capacitor module (300b) to apply a regeneration voltage to the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b) so that the regeneration mode is executed.

[0078] Of course, in this case, the first capacitor module (300a) and the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a), and the second capacitor module (300b) and the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b) may also be configured in series connection as shown in FIG. 2.

[0079] Meanwhile, the control unit (400) of the present invention may be configured to include a regeneration measuring means (410) for detecting the regeneration time of each of the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b), as described above. Here, the regeneration time can be set through the set maintenance time of the water purification mode for each of the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) or the ion concentration of the treated water, as described above, and in response, the regeneration measuring means (400) may utilize a timer or an ion concentration measuring means.

[0080] Below, we will examine a water purification method using the MCDI device with reference to FIGS. 5 and FIGS. 6.

[0081] The water purification method according to the present invention first makes the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) enter a water purification mode. To this end, the control unit (400) controls the switch unit (420) to supply the water purification voltage to the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and the first capacitor module (300a), thereby causing the ion filtration material to be adsorbed in the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) and allowing power to be charged in the first capacitor module (300a).

[0082] In this way, when the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) is in the purification mode, the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) is in the regeneration mode so that the ionic substances adsorbed on the pair of electrodes (110, 120) are removed and regenerated.

[0083] To this end, the control unit (400) controls the switch unit (420) to cut off the supply of the constant voltage to the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b) and the second capacitor module (300b), and applies a regeneration voltage to the second deionized MCDI filter module (100b) through the power charged in the second capacitor module (300b).

[0084] At this time, the second capacitor module (300b) discharges as the voltage gradually decreases while the charged voltage capacity decreases as the regeneration time is required, and in response, the regeneration voltage supplied to the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) gradually decreases, thereby effectively preventing the re-adsorption of the ion filtration material during the regeneration mode, thereby improving regeneration efficiency and eliminating the need for separate voltage control.

[0085] As described above, after the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) proceeds in a water purification mode and the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) proceeds in a regeneration mode, when the regeneration time for the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) is determined through the regeneration measuring means (410), the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) is switched to a regeneration mode and the second deionized filtration mode is switched to a water purification mode so that continuous water purification proceeds.

[0086] To this end, referring to FIG. 6, the control unit (400) controls the switch unit (420) to block the supply of the constant voltage to the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a) and the first capacitor module (300a), thereby allowing regeneration to occur in the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a) and discharging the voltage charged in the first capacitor module (300a) to supply the regeneration voltage to the first deionized MCDI filter module (100a).

[0087] Thus, when the first deionized MCDI filtration module (100a) is in regeneration mode, for continuous water purification, the control unit (400) controls the switch unit (420) to supply the water purification voltage to the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) and the second capacitor module (300b), thereby causing the ion filtration material to be adsorbed in the second deionized MCDI filtration module (100b) and the voltage to be charged in the second capacitor module (300b).

[0088] The present invention has been described with reference to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings, but this is merely illustrative, and those skilled in the art will understand that various modifications and equivalent alternative embodiments are possible therefrom. Accordingly, the true technical scope of protection of the present invention should be determined by the technical spirit of the appended claims. Industrial applicability

[0090] The present invention relates to an MCDI device for removing ionic substances. According to the present invention, by utilizing the characteristic that the voltage intensity discharged from the capacitor module gradually decreases, the regeneration voltage is naturally and gradually reduced, thereby effectively preventing the re-adsorption of ion-filtered substances onto the electrode during the regeneration mode and thereby improving regeneration efficiency.
