[0037] FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view illustrating a display device according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0038] Referring to FIG. 1, the display device (1) may include a display area (DA) that implements an image and a non-display area (NDA) that does not implement an image. The display device (1) may provide an image through an array of multiple subpixels arranged two-dimensionally on the xy plane in the display area (DA). Each subpixel may emit a different color and may be, for example, one of a green subpixel, a red subpixel, or a blue subpixel.
[0039] In one embodiment, the plurality of subpixels includes a first subpixel (PX1), a second subpixel (PX2), and a third subpixel (PX3). For convenience of explanation, the following description assumes that the first subpixel (PX1) is a green subpixel, the second subpixel (PX2) is a red subpixel, and the third subpixel (PX3) is a blue subpixel.
[0040] The first subpixel (PX1), the second subpixel (PX2), and the third subpixel (PX3) are each regions capable of emitting green light (Lg), red light (Pr), and blue light (Pb), respectively, and the display device (1) can provide an image using the light emitted from the subpixels.
[0041] The non-display area (NDA) is an area that does not provide an image and may completely surround the display area (DA). Drivers or main voltage lines for providing electrical signals or power to pixel circuits may be placed in the non-display area (NDA). The non-display area (NDA) may include pads, which are areas where electronic components or printed circuit boards can be electrically connected.
[0042] The display area (DA) may have a polygonal shape including a rectangle, as illustrated in FIG. 1. For example, the display area (DA) may have a rectangular shape in which the width is greater than the height, a rectangular shape in which the width is smaller than the height, or a square shape. In other embodiments, the display area (DA) may be a polygon such as a circle, an ellipse, or a triangle or a pentagon. Additionally, while the display device (1) in FIG. 1 is illustrated as a flat flat display device, the display device (1) may be implemented in various forms such as a flexible, foldable, or rollable display device.
[0043] In one embodiment, the display device (1) may be an organic light-emitting display device. In another embodiment, the display device (1) may be an inorganic light-emitting display device or a quantum dot light-emitting display device. For example, the light-emitting layer of the display element included in the display device may include an organic material, an inorganic material, a quantum dot, an organic material and a quantum dot, an inorganic material and a quantum dot, or an organic material, an inorganic material, and a quantum dot. For convenience of explanation, the following description will focus on the case where the display device (1) is an organic light-emitting display device.
[0044] FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view schematically illustrating a display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0045] Referring to FIG. 2, the display device (1) may include a circuit layer (200) on a lower substrate (100). The circuit layer (200) includes first to third subpixel circuits (PC1, PC2, PC3), and each of the first to third subpixel circuits (PC1, PC2, PC3) may include a thin-film transistor and / or a capacitor. Each of the first to third subpixel circuits (PC1, PC2, PC3) may be electrically connected to first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) of a light-emitting diode layer (300).
[0046] The first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) may include organic light-emitting diodes containing organic materials. In another embodiment, the first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) may be inorganic light-emitting diodes containing inorganic materials. The inorganic light-emitting diode may include a PN junction diode containing inorganic semiconductor-based materials. When a forward voltage is applied to the PN junction diode, holes and electrons are injected, and the energy generated by the recombination of the holes and electrons is converted into light energy to emit light of a predetermined color. The aforementioned inorganic light-emitting diode may have a width of several to several hundred micrometers or several to several hundred nanometers. In some embodiments, the light-emitting diode (LED) may be a light-emitting diode containing quantum dots. As described above, the light-emitting layer of the light-emitting diode (LED) may include organic materials, inorganic materials, quantum dots, organic materials and quantum dots, or inorganic materials and quantum dots.
[0047] The first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) can emit light of the same color. For example, light emitted from the first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) (e.g., blue light, Lb) can pass through the encapsulation layer (400) on the light-emitting diode layer (300) and pass through the functional layer (500). However, the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, the first to third light-emitting diodes (LED1, LED2, LED3) can emit light of different colors.
[0048] The functional layer (500) may include optical layers that transmit light (e.g., blue light Lb) emitted from the light-emitting diode layer (300) with or without converting the color. For example, the functional layer (500) may include quantum dot layers that convert light (e.g., blue light Lb) emitted from the light-emitting diode layer (300) into light of a different color, and a transmission layer that transmits light (e.g., blue light Lb) emitted from the light-emitting diode layer (300) without color conversion. The functional layer (500) may include a first quantum dot layer (510) corresponding to a first subpixel (PX1), a second quantum dot layer (520) corresponding to a second subpixel (PX2), and a transmission layer (530) corresponding to a third subpixel (PX3). The first quantum dot layer (510) can convert blue light (Lb) into green light (Lg), and the second quantum dot layer (520) can convert blue light (Lb) into red light (Lr). The transmission layer (530) can pass blue light (Lb) without conversion.
[0049] A color filter layer (600) may be disposed on a functional layer (500). The color filter layer (600) may include first to third color filters (610, 620, 630) of different colors. In one embodiment, the first color filter (610) may be a green color filter, the second color filter (620) may be a red color filter, and the third color filter (630) may be a blue color filter.
[0050] The color-converted light and transmitted light from the functional layer (500) can have their color purity improved as they pass through the first to third color filters (610, 620, 630), respectively. Additionally, the color filter layer (600) can prevent or minimize the visibility of external light (e.g., light incident from outside the display device (1) toward the display device (1)) to the user by reflecting it.
[0051] The color filter layer (600) may include an upper substrate (700). The upper substrate (700) may include glass or a transparent organic material. For example, the upper substrate (700) may include a transparent organic material such as an acrylic resin.
[0052] In one embodiment, after a color filter layer (600) and a functional layer (500) are formed on an upper substrate (700), the functional layer (500) can be integrated so as to face the encapsulation layer (400).
[0053] In another embodiment, a functional layer (500) and a color filter layer (600) may be sequentially formed on a sealing layer (400), and then an upper substrate (700) may be formed by directly applying and curing it on the color filter layer (600). In some embodiments, another optical film, such as an AR (anti-reflection) film, may be disposed on the upper substrate (700).
[0054] A display device (1) having the above-described structure may include an electronic device capable of displaying video or still images, such as a television, an advertising board, a movie theater screen, a monitor, a tablet PC, a laptop, etc.
[0055] Figure 3 shows each optical layer of the functional layer of Figure 2.
[0056] Referring to FIG. 3, the first quantum dot layer (510) can convert incident blue light (Lb) into green light (Lg). As shown in FIG. 3, the first quantum dot layer (510) may include a first photosensitive polymer (1151), first quantum dots (1152) dispersed in the first photosensitive polymer (1151), and first scattering particles (1153).
[0057] The first quantum dots (1152) can be excited by blue light (Lb) and isotropically emit green light (Lr) having a wavelength longer than the wavelength of the blue light. The first photosensitive polymer (1151) may be an organic material that is light-transmitting. The first scattering particles (1153) can increase color conversion efficiency by scattering blue light (Lb) that is not absorbed by the first quantum dots (1152), thereby causing more first quantum dots (1152) to be excited. The first scattering particles (1153) may be, for example, titanium oxide (TiO2) or metal particles. The first quantum dots (1152) may be selected from group II-VI compounds, group III-V compounds, group IV-VI compounds, group IV elements, group IV compounds, and combinations thereof.
[0058] The second quantum dot layer (520) can convert incident blue light (Lb) into red light (Lr). As shown in FIG. 3, the second quantum dot layer (520) may include a second photosensitive polymer (1161), second quantum dots (1162) dispersed in the second photosensitive polymer (1161), and second scattering particles (1163).
[0059] The second quantum dots (1162) can be excited by blue light (Lb) and isotropically emit red light (Lg) having a wavelength longer than the wavelength of the blue light. The second photosensitive polymer (1161) may be an organic material having light transmittance.
[0060] The second scattering particles (1163) can increase color conversion efficiency by scattering blue light (Lb) that was not absorbed by the second quantum dots (1162), thereby causing more second quantum dots (1162) to be excited. The second scattering particles (1163) may be, for example, titanium oxide (TiO2) or metal particles. The second quantum dots (1162) may be selected from group II-VI compounds, group III-V compounds, group IV-VI compounds, group IV elements, group IV compounds, and combinations thereof.
[0061] In some embodiments, the material may be the same as that of the first quantum dots (1152) and the second quantum dots (1162). In this case, the size of the second quantum dots (1162) may be larger than the size of the first quantum dots (1152).
[0062] The transparent layer (530) can transmit blue light (Lb) without converting the blue light (Lb) incident on the transparent layer (530). As illustrated in FIG. 3, the transparent layer (530) may include a third photosensitive polymer (1171) in which third scattering particles (1173) are dispersed. The third photosensitive polymer (1171) may be an organic material having light transmittance, such as silicone resin or epoxy resin, for example, and may be the same material as the first and second photosensitive polymers (1151, 1161). The third scattering particles (1173) may scatter and emit blue light (Lb) and may be the same material as the first and second scattering particles (1153, 1163).
[0063] FIG. 4 schematically shows the reflection spectrum of a first quantum dot layer according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0064] External light incident toward the display device (1) may be reflected from the upper substrate, internal interface, etc. of the display device (1). A display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes quantum dot layers (510, 520) capable of converting incident light. Accordingly, when a portion of the external light reaches the quantum dot layers (510, 520), a portion of the reached light can excite the quantum dot layers (510, 520) and be converted into light of a different wavelength band and reflected.
[0065] For example, as illustrated in FIG. 4, when incident light of a single wavelength ranging from 380 nm to 500 nm reaches the first quantum dot layer (510), some of it can excite the first quantum dots (2152) and be reflected as light in the green wavelength band (e.g., the part indicated by arrow A in FIG. 4). That is, the reflectance in the green wavelength band can be increased, which can affect the brightness of the display device (1). Therefore, it is necessary to improve the reflectance by blocking light in the wavelength band that contributes to the light emission reflection of the quantum dot layer.
[0066] Meanwhile, a display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention does not include a polarizer and can reduce reflectance by adjusting the transmission spectrum of each color filter (610, 620, 630) corresponding to each subpixel (PX1, PX2, PX3).
[0067] As a comparative example of the present invention, the display device may include polarizing plates collectively placed at a plurality of subpixels to reduce reflectivity. However, as described above, since diffuse reflectivity increases due to the emission reflection of the quantum dot layer, the reflection wavelength may differ for each subpixel. Therefore, the effect of improving reflectivity in the display device using polarizing plates may be negligible. Furthermore, the transmission efficiency of the light emitted from each subpixel may be significantly reduced due to the polarizing plates.
[0068] On the other hand, a display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention can control reflectance by selectively adjusting the transmission spectrum of first to third color filters (610, 620, 630) corresponding to each of the first to third subpixels (PX1, PX2, PX3). Accordingly, the reflectance of the display device (1) can be further reduced compared to the case including a polarizer, and the transmission efficiency of the light emitted from each subpixel (PX1, PX2, PX3) can also be improved.
[0069] Hereinafter, the light transmission characteristics of the color filters (610, 620, 630) corresponding to each of the above subpixels (PX1, PX2, PX3) will be described. In particular, the light transmission characteristics of the first color filter (610) corresponding to the first subpixel (PX1), which is a green color filter according to one embodiment of the present invention, will be described with reference to FIGS. 5 to 8.
[0070] FIG. 5 is a graph schematically illustrating the spectrum of light emitted from a first light-emitting diode of a display device according to one embodiment of the present invention and passing through a first quantum dot layer, and the transmission spectrum of a first color filter according to one embodiment and a comparative example of the present invention.
[0071] In FIG. 5, the spectrum of light emitted from the first light-emitting diode (LED1) and passing through the first quantum dot layer (510) corresponds to the y-coordinate (light intensity) on the right. Additionally, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment and the transmission spectrum of the first color filter according to one comparative example correspond to the y-coordinate (transmittance) on the left. Here, the first color filter according to one comparative example corresponds to a conventional first color filter that can be applied to a liquid crystal display (LCD) that does not include a quantum dot layer.
[0072] Referring to FIG. 5, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention may have a relatively low transmittance in the wavelength band contributing to the light emission reflection of the first quantum dot layer compared to the transmission spectrum of the first color filter according to one comparative example of the present invention. For example, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention may have a low transmittance in the wavelength band of about 480 nm to about 515 nm. As shown in FIG. 5, the wavelength band of about 480 nm to about 515 nm has a relatively low intensity of light emitted through the first light-emitting diode (LED1) and the first quantum dot layer (510), so the degree to which it contributes to the transmittance of the emitted green light (Lg) may be low. On the other hand, when external light of the above wavelength band reaches the first quantum dot layer (510), it may cause light emission reflection of the first quantum dot layer (510) as described above with reference to FIG. 4. Accordingly, the spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention has a relatively low transmittance in the wavelength band of about 480 nm to about 515 nm, thereby further improving the reflectance of the display device (1).
[0073] In addition, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention may have a reduced maximum transmittance in the wavelength band of about 515 nm to about 600 nm compared to the transmission spectrum of the first color filter according to one comparative example, but the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the spectrum may be smaller.
[0074] Here, Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) represents the width between points corresponding to half the maximum value of a spectrum that exhibits a peak-shaped distribution. In particular, for spectra exhibiting wavelength dependence such as transmittance, it refers to the wavelength width.
[0075] Since the wavelength band of approximately 515 nm to approximately 600 nm is the natural wavelength band of green light (Lg), the first color filter (610) can be designed to have high transmittance in that band. In addition, as will be described in detail later with reference to FIGS. 6 to 8, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) can be adjusted so that the display device has excellent color characteristics, such as high color reproduction rate and low reflectance.
[0076] A display device (1) including a first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention may increase color reproduction rate and decrease reflectance by reducing the full width at half maximum of the spectrum in the wavelength band of about 515 nm to about 600 nm compared to a first color filter according to one comparative example. The light transmitted through the first color filter (610) may be high-purity green light (Lg).
[0077] In addition, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be similar to or match the peak wavelength of the spectrum of light emitted through the first light-emitting diode (LED1) and the first quantum dot layer (510). In one embodiment, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be about 530 nm to about 534 nm. For example, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be 532 nm. By having a peak wavelength that is similar to or matches the peak wavelength of the spectrum of light emitted through the first light-emitting diode (LED1) and the first quantum dot layer (510), the transmission efficiency of green light (Lg) can be maximized.
[0078] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may have low light transmittance in the blue and red wavelength bands. In one embodiment, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may have a transmittance of less than 1% at a wavelength of about 380 nm to about 480 nm. In addition, in one embodiment, the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may have a transmittance of less than 1% at a wavelength of about 600 nm to about 680 nm. The wavelength band of about 380 nm to about 480 nm may be included in the wavelength band of blue light, and the wavelength band of about 600 nm to about 680 nm may be included in the wavelength band of red light. A first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention can increase the color purity of green light (Lg) and reduce the reflectance by ensuring that light in the wavelength band of about 380 nm to about 480 nm or the wavelength band of about 600 nm to about 680 nm is absorbed without being transmitted.
[0079] FIG. 6 is a graph schematically showing the transmission spectrum of a first color filter according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 7 is a graph schematically showing the reflectance of a display device including a first color filter according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 8 is a graph showing the relationship between the transmission spectrum full width at half maximum of a first color filter included in a display device according to one embodiment of the present invention and the reflectance and color reproduction rate of the display device.
[0080] Referring to FIGS. 6 and FIGS. 7, Examples 1 to 3 correspond to first color filters (610) having different full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum. As shown in FIG. 7, as the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) decreases, the reflectance in the green wavelength band may decrease.
[0081] Referring to FIGS. 6 to 8, as the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) according to one embodiment of the present invention decreases, the reflectance of the display device (1) decreases while the color reproduction rate increases. However, since a decrease in the full width at half maximum (FWHM) may affect the transmission efficiency of green light, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) can be set so that the light transmission efficiency, reflectance, and color reproduction rate are optimized. In one embodiment, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be about 45 nm to about 49 nm. For example, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be 47 nm.
[0082] In one embodiment, the maximum transmittance of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be about 56% to about 62%. For example, the maximum transmittance of the transmission spectrum of the first color filter (610) may be 59%.
[0083] FIG. 9 is a graph schematically illustrating the transmission spectra of a first color filter, a second color filter, and a third color filter according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0084] Referring to FIG. 9, the second color filter (620) is a red color filter corresponding to the second subpixel (PX2) and, similar to the first color filter (610) described above, can have a transmission spectrum optimized for the spectrum of light emitted from the second light-emitting diode (LED2) and the second quantum dot layer (520). Additionally, the third color filter (630) is a blue color filter corresponding to the third subpixel (PX3) and can have a transmission spectrum optimized for the spectrum of light emitted from the third light-emitting diode (LED3) and passed through the transmission layer (530).
[0085] In one embodiment, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the second color filter (620) may be approximately 585 nm to approximately 600 nm based on an approximately 10% transmittance. For example, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the second color filter (620) may be 599 nm.
[0086] In addition, in one embodiment, the maximum transmittance of the transmission spectrum of the second color filter (620) may be about 60% to about 70%.
[0087] In one embodiment, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be about 420 nm to about 480 nm. For example, the peak wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be 450 nm.
[0088] Additionally, in one embodiment, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be about 87 nm to about 93 nm. For example, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be 89 nm.
[0089] In one embodiment, the maximum transmittance of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be about 65% to about 71%. For example, the maximum transmittance of the transmission spectrum of the third color filter (630) may be 68%.
[0090] In one embodiment, the display device (1) may have a BT2020 standard color reproduction rate of about 89% or more. In some embodiments, the display device (1) may have a BT2020 standard color reproduction rate of about 90% or more. In some embodiments, the display device (1) may have a BT2020 standard color reproduction rate of about 91% or more.
[0091] Here, "BT2020" is a standard proposed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and is a term that defines a color gamut. "BT2020 standard color reproduction rate" refers to the rate of agreement between the color gamut of a display device and the color gamut according to the BT2020 standard in CIE color coordinates. In other words, it corresponds to the ratio of the area of the matching portion to the total area of the standard color gamut.
[0092] In one embodiment, the display device (1) may have an SCI-based reflectance of less than about 1.3. In some embodiments, the display device (1) may have an SCI-based reflectance of less than about 1.2. In some embodiments, the display device (1) may have an SCI (Specular Component Included)-based reflectance of less than about 1.1.
[0093] Here, "SCI standard reflectance" refers to the reflectance measured by the SCI (Specular Component Included) method, which includes both incident and specularly reflected light and diffusely reflected light.
[0094] Meanwhile, the first color filter (610) having transmission spectrum characteristics according to one embodiment of the present invention as described above may include a first pigment that is green and a second pigment that is yellow. That is, the first color filter (610) may be manufactured by mixing the green pigment and the yellow pigment.
[0095] In one embodiment, the first pigment may be one or more selected from the group consisting of, for example, CI pigment greens 7, 36, 58, and 69.
[0096] In one embodiment, the second pigment may be one or more selected from the group consisting of, for example, CI pigment yellows 129, 138, 139, 185, and 231.
[0097] The first color filter (610) may have a peak wavelength and full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the transmission spectrum changed according to the mixing ratio of the first pigment and the second pigment. In one embodiment, the weight ratio of the first pigment and the second pigment may be about 86:14 to about 94:6. For example, the weight ratio of the first pigment and the second pigment may be about 90:10. If the weight ratio of the first pigment and the second pigment does not satisfy the above range, the reflectance of the display device (1) may increase and the color reproduction rate and light transmission efficiency may decrease.
[0098] In one embodiment, the thickness of the first color filter (610) may be about 2 μm to about 4 μm. For example, the thickness of the first color filter (610) may be 3.2 μm.
[0099] In one embodiment, the total pigment content included in the first color filter (610) may be about 4% by weight to about 12% by weight based on solid content. In some embodiments, the total pigment content included in the first color filter (610) may be about 5.4% by weight to about 10.8% by weight based on solid content. For example, the total pigment content included in the first color filter (610) may be 7.2% based on solid content.
[0100] FIG. 10 is a cross-sectional view schematically illustrating a display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention. The display device (1) may include a first color filter (610), a second color filter (620), and a third color filter (630) having a transmission spectrum, as previously described with reference to FIG. 5 to 9.
[0101] Referring to FIG. 10, the display device (1) includes a first subpixel (PX1), a second subpixel (PX2), and a third subpixel (PX3), and the first subpixel (PX1) can produce green light (Lg), the second subpixel (PX2) can produce red light (Lr), and the third subpixel (PX3) can produce blue light (Lb).
[0102] In one embodiment, the display device (1) may include a display panel (10) and a color conversion panel (20). The display panel (10) may include a lower substrate (100) and a display element disposed on the lower substrate (100). In one embodiment, the display panel (10) may include a first light-emitting diode (LED1), a second light-emitting diode (LED2), and a third light-emitting diode (LED3) disposed on the lower substrate (100). The first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3) may include a light-emitting layer (320).
[0103] Below, the stacked structure of the display panel (10) will be described in detail.
[0104] The lower substrate (100) may include a glass material, a ceramic material, a metal material, or a material having flexible or bendable properties. If the lower substrate (100) has flexible or bendable properties, the lower substrate (100) may include a polymer resin such as polyethersulfone, polyacrylate, polyetherimide, polyethylene naphthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene sulfide, polyarylate, polyimide, polycarbonate, or cellulose acetate propionate. The lower substrate (100) may have a single layer or a multilayer structure of the above material, and in the case of a multilayer structure, may further include an inorganic layer. In one embodiment, the lower substrate (100) may have an organic / inorganic / organic structure.
[0105] A barrier layer (not shown) may be further included between the lower substrate (100) and the first buffer layer (211). The barrier layer may serve to prevent or minimize the penetration of impurities from the lower substrate (100), etc., into the semiconductor layer (Act). The barrier layer may include inorganic materials such as oxides or nitrides, organic materials, or organic-inorganic composites, and may be composed of a single layer or a multilayer structure of inorganic and organic materials.
[0106] A bias electrode (BSM) may be disposed on the first buffer layer (211) to correspond to a thin-film transistor (TFT). In one embodiment, a voltage may be applied to the bias electrode (BSM). Additionally, the bias electrode (BSM) may serve to prevent external light from reaching the semiconductor layer (Act). Accordingly, the characteristics of the thin-film transistor (TFT) can be stabilized. Meanwhile, the bias electrode (BSM) may be omitted in some cases.
[0107] A semiconductor layer (Act) may be disposed on the second buffer layer (212). The semiconductor layer (Act) may include amorphous silicon or polysilicon. In another embodiment, the semiconductor layer (Act) may include an oxide of at least one material selected from the group comprising indium (In), gallium (Ga), tin (Sn), zirconium (Zr), vanadium (V), hafnium (Hf), cadmium (Cd), germanium (Ge), chromium (Cr), titanium (Ti), aluminum (Al), cesium (Cs), cerium (Ce), and zinc (Zn). In some embodiments, the semiconductor layer (Act) may be formed of a Zn oxide-based material, such as Zn oxide, In-Zn oxide, Ga-In-Zn oxide, etc. In another embodiment, the semiconductor layer (Act) may be an IGZO (In-Ga-Zn-O), ITZO (In-Sn-Zn-O), or IGTZO (In-Ga-Sn-Zn-O) semiconductor containing metals such as indium (In), gallium (Ga), and tin (Sn) in ZnO. The semiconductor layer (Act) may include a channel region and source and drain regions disposed on either side of the channel region. The semiconductor layer (Act) may be composed of a single layer or multiple layers.
[0108] A gate electrode (GE) may be disposed on the semiconductor layer (Act) with the gate insulating layer (213) in between. The gate electrode (GE) may overlap at least partially with the semiconductor layer (Act). The gate electrode (GE) may be composed of a single layer or multiple layers, including molybdenum (Mo), aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), titanium (Ti), etc. As an example, the gate electrode (GE) may be a single layer of Mo. A first electrode (CE1) of a storage capacitor (Cst) may be disposed on the same layer as the gate electrode (GE). The first electrode (CE1) may be formed of the same material as the gate electrode (GE).
[0109] In FIG. 10, the gate electrode (GE) of the thin-film transistor (TFT) and the first electrode (CE1) of the storage capacitor (Cst) are shown separately, but the storage capacitor (Cst) may overlap with the thin-film transistor (TFT). In this case, the gate electrode (GE) of the thin-film transistor (TFT) can function as the first electrode (CE1) of the storage capacitor (Cst).
[0110] An interlayer insulating layer (215) may be provided to cover the gate electrode (GE) and the first electrode (CE1) of the storage capacitor (Cst). The interlayer insulating layer (215) is made of silicon oxide (SiO₂). X ), silicon nitride (SiN X It may include silicon oxynitride (SiON), aluminum oxide (Al2O3), titanium oxide (TiO2), tantalum oxide (Ta2O5), hafnium oxide (HfO2), or zinc oxide (ZnO), etc.
[0111] The second electrode (CE2), source electrode (SE), and drain electrode (DE) of the storage capacitor (Cst) may be disposed on the upper part of the interlayer insulation layer (215).
[0112] The second electrode (CE2), source electrode (SE), and drain electrode (DE) of the storage capacitor (Cst) may include a conductive material including molybdenum (Mo), aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), titanium (Ti), etc., and may be formed as a multilayer or single layer including the above materials. As an example, the second electrode (CE2), source electrode (SE), and drain electrode (DE) may be formed as a multilayer structure of Ti / Al / Ti. The source electrode (SE) and drain electrode (DE) may be connected to the source region or drain region of the semiconductor layer (Act) through contact holes.
[0113] The second electrode (CE2) of the storage capacitor (Cst) may overlap with the first electrode (CE1) with an interlayer insulating layer (215) in between to form the storage capacitor (Cst). In this case, the interlayer insulating layer (215) may function as a dielectric layer of the storage capacitor (Cst).
[0114] A flattening layer (218) may be disposed on the second electrode (CE2), source electrode (SE), and drain electrode (DE) of the storage capacitor (Cst). The flattening layer (218) may be formed as a single layer or a multilayer film made of organic material and may provide a flat upper surface. The flattening layer (218) may include general-purpose polymers such as BCB (Benzocyclobutene), polyimide, HMDSO (Hexamethyldisiloxane), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), or polystyrene (PS), polymer derivatives having a phenolic group, acrylic polymers, imide polymers, aryl ether polymers, amide polymers, fluorine polymers, p-xylene polymers, vinyl alcohol polymers, and blends thereof.
[0115] Display elements may be disposed on the flattening layer (218). In one embodiment, a first light-emitting diode (LED1), a second light-emitting diode (LED2), and a third light-emitting diode (LED3) may be disposed on the flattening layer (218). The first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3) may each include a first subpixel electrode (310G), a second subpixel electrode (310R), and a third subpixel electrode (310B). In one embodiment, the first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3) may commonly include a light-emitting layer (320) and a counter electrode (330).
[0116] The first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) may be (semi)transparent electrodes or reflective electrodes. In some embodiments, the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) may have a reflective layer formed of Ag, Mg, Al, Pt, Pd, Au, Ni, Nd, Ir, Cr, and compounds thereof, and a transparent or semitransparent electrode layer formed on the reflective layer. The transparent or translucent electrode layer may comprise at least one selected from the group comprising indium tin oxide (ITO), indium zinc oxide (IZO), zinc oxide (ZnO), indium oxide (In2O3), indium gallium oxide (IGO), and aluminum zinc oxide (AZO). In one embodiment, the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) may be provided with ITO / Ag / ITO.
[0117] A bank layer (219) may be disposed on the flattening layer (218). The bank layer (219) may have openings that expose the central portions of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B), respectively. The bank layer (219) may cover the edges of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B), respectively. The bank layer (219) can prevent arcs from occurring at the edges of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) by increasing the distance between the edges of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) and the opposing electrode (330) above the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B).
[0118] The bank layer (219) can be formed by a method such as spin coating, using one or more organic insulating materials selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, acrylic resin, benzocyclobutene and phenolic resin.
[0119] The light-emitting layer (320) of the first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3) may include an organic material comprising a fluorescent or phosphorescent material that emits green, red, blue, or white light. The light-emitting layer (320) may be a low-molecular-weight organic material or a high-molecular-weight organic material, and functional layers such as a hole transport layer (HTL), a hole injection layer (HIL), an electron transport layer (ETL), and an electron injection layer (EIL) may be optionally further disposed below and above the light-emitting layer (320). In FIG. 10, the light-emitting layer (320) is shown as being integrally formed across the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B), but is not limited thereto, and various variations are possible, such as the light-emitting layer (320) being arranged to correspond to each of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B).
[0120] The light-emitting layer (320) may include a layer that is integral across the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) as described above, but may also include a layer patterned to correspond to each of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B) as needed. In any case, the light-emitting layer (320) may be a first color light-emitting layer. The first color emitting layer may be integral across the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B), or, if necessary, may be patterned to correspond to each of the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B). The first color emitting layer may emit light of a first wavelength band, for example, blue light.
[0121] The counter electrode (330) may be positioned on the light-emitting layer (320) to correspond to the first subpixel electrode (310G), the second subpixel electrode (310R), and the third subpixel electrode (310B). This counter electrode (330) may be formed integrally in a plurality of organic light-emitting elements. In some embodiments, the counter electrode (330) may be a transparent or translucent electrode and may be formed from a metal thin film with a low work function comprising Li, Ca, LiF / Ca, LiF / Al, Al, Ag, Mg, and compounds thereof. Additionally, a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) film such as ITO, IZO, ZnO, or In2O3 may be further disposed on the metal thin film.
[0122] In one embodiment, the first light may be generated in the first light-emitting region (EA1) of the first light-emitting diode (LED1) and emitted to the outside. In one embodiment, the first light-emitting region (EA1) may be defined as the portion exposed by the opening of the bank layer (219) of the first subpixel electrode (310G). The second light may be generated in the second light-emitting region (EA2) of the second light-emitting diode (LED2) and emitted to the outside. In one embodiment, the second light-emitting region (EA2) may be defined as the portion exposed by the opening of the bank layer (219) of the second subpixel electrode (310R). The third light may be generated in the third light-emitting region (EA3) of the third light-emitting diode (LED3) and emitted to the outside. In one embodiment, the third light-emitting region (EA3) can be defined as the portion exposed by the opening of the bank layer (219) among the third subpixel electrodes (310B).
[0123] The first light-emitting region (EA1), the second light-emitting region (EA2), and the third light-emitting region (EA3) may be spaced apart from each other. Areas within the display area (DA) that are not the first light-emitting region (EA1), the second light-emitting region (EA2), and the third light-emitting region (EA3) may be non-light-emitting regions. The first light-emitting region (EA1), the second light-emitting region (EA2), and the third light-emitting region (EA3) may be distinguished by the non-light-emitting region.
[0124] A spacer (not shown) for preventing mask indentation may be further included on the bank layer (219). In one embodiment, the spacer may be formed integrally with the bank layer (219). For example, the spacer and the bank layer (219) may be formed simultaneously in the same process using a halftone mask process.
[0125] Since the first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3) can be easily damaged by moisture or oxygen from the outside, they can be covered and protected by an encapsulation layer (400). The encapsulation layer (400) covers the display area (DA) and can extend to the outside of the display area (DA). The encapsulation layer (400) may include at least one organic encapsulation layer and at least one inorganic encapsulation layer. For example, the encapsulation layer (400) may include a first inorganic encapsulation layer (410), an organic encapsulation layer (420), and a second inorganic encapsulation layer (430).
[0126] Since the first inorganic sealing layer (410) is formed along the lower structure, its upper surface may not be flat. The organic sealing layer (420) covers this first inorganic sealing layer (410), and unlike the first inorganic sealing layer (410), its upper surface may be approximately flat.
[0127] The first inorganic encapsulation layer (410) and the second inorganic encapsulation layer (430) are aluminum oxide (Al2O3), titanium oxide (TiO2), tantalum oxide (Ta2O5), hafnium oxide (HfO2), zinc oxide (ZnO), and silicon oxide (SiO2). X ), silicon nitride (SiN X It may include one or more inorganic materials such as silicon oxynitride (SiON). The organic encapsulation layer (420) may include a polymer-based material. Polymer-based materials may include acrylic resin, epoxy resin, polyimide, and polyethylene. In one embodiment, the organic encapsulation layer (420) may include acrylate.
[0128] Even if a crack occurs within the bag layer (400) through the aforementioned multilayer structure, such cracks can be prevented from connecting between the first inorganic bag layer (410) and the organic bag layer (420) or between the organic bag layer (420) and the second inorganic bag layer (430). This prevents or minimizes the formation of a path for moisture or oxygen from the outside to penetrate into the display area (DA).
[0129] Although not shown, other layers such as a capping layer may be interposed between the first inorganic sealing layer (410) and the counter electrode (330) as needed.
[0130] The color conversion panel (20) may include an upper substrate (700), a color filter layer (600), a refractive layer (RL), a first capping layer (CL1), a bank layer (800), a functional layer (500), and a second capping layer (CL2). The upper substrate (700) may be placed on the lower substrate (100) such that display elements are interposed therein. The upper substrate (700) may be placed on the first light-emitting diode (LED1), the second light-emitting diode (LED2), and the third light-emitting diode (LED3).
[0131] The upper substrate (700) may comprise glass, metal, or polymer resin. If the upper substrate (700) has flexible or bendable properties, the upper substrate (700) may comprise a polymer resin such as, for example, polyethersulphone, polyacrylate, polyetherimide, polyethylene naphthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene sulfide, polyarylate, polyimide, polycarbonate, or cellulose acetate propionate. In one embodiment, the upper substrate (700) comprises two layers each comprising such a polymer resin and silicon oxide (SiO₂) interposed between the layers. X ), silicon nitride (SiN X It may also have a multilayer structure including a barrier layer containing inorganic materials such as silicon oxynitride (SiON).
[0132] A color filter layer (600) may be disposed on the lower surface of the upper substrate (700) in the direction from the upper substrate (700) to the lower substrate (100). The color filter layer (600) may include a first color filter (610), a second color filter (620), and a third color filter (630) having a transmission spectrum as described above with reference to FIGS. 5 to 9. The first color filter (610) may be disposed on a first central region (CA1). The second color filter (620) may be disposed on a second central region (CA2). The third color filter (630) may be disposed on a third central region (CA3).
[0133] The color filter layer (600) can reduce external light reflection of the display device (1). For example, when external light reaches the first color filter (610), only light of a preset wavelength as described above can pass through the first color filter (610), and light of other wavelengths can be absorbed by the first color filter (610). Therefore, among the external light incident on the display device (1), only light of the preset wavelength passes through the first color filter (610), and a portion of it is reflected from the lower counter electrode (330) and / or the first subpixel electrode (310G) and can be emitted outward again. Since only a portion of the external light incident on the location where the first subpixel (PX1) is located is reflected outward, it can serve to reduce external light reflection. This explanation can also be applied to the second color filter (620) and the third color filter (630).
[0134] The first color filter (610), the second color filter (620), and the third color filter (630) may overlap each other. The first color filter (610), the second color filter (620), and the third color filter (630) may overlap between any one of the central areas (CA) and the other of the central areas (CA). For example, the first color filter (610), the second color filter (620), and the third color filter (630) may overlap between the first central area (CA1) and the second central area (CA2). In this case, the third color filter (630) may be placed between the first central area (CA1) and the second central area (CA2). The first color filter (610) may extend from the first central area (CA1) and overlap with the third color filter (630). The second color filter (620) can be extended from the second center area (CA2) and overlap with the third color filter (630).
[0135] As described above, the first color filter (610), the second color filter (620), and the third color filter (630) can overlap to define a light-blocking section (BP). Therefore, the color filter layer (600) can prevent or reduce color mixing without a separate light-blocking member.
[0136] The refractive layer (RL) may be placed in the central region (CA). The refractive layer (RL) may be placed in the first central region (CA1), the second central region (CA2), and the third central region (CA3), respectively. The refractive layer (RL) may contain an organic material. In one embodiment, the refractive index of the refractive layer (RL) may be smaller than the refractive index of the first capping layer (CL1). In one embodiment, the refractive index of the refractive layer (RL) may be smaller than the refractive index of the color filter layer (600). Thus, the refractive layer (RL) can concentrate light.
[0137] A first capping layer (CL1) may be disposed on the refractive layer (RL) and the color filter layer (600). In one embodiment, the first capping layer (CL1) may be disposed between the color filter layer (600) and the functional layer (500). The first capping layer (CL1) can protect the refractive layer (RL) and the color filter layer (600). The first capping layer (CL1) can prevent or reduce the penetration of impurities, such as moisture and / or air, from the outside to damage or contaminate the refractive layer (RL) and / or the color filter layer (600). The first capping layer (CL1) may include an inorganic material.
[0138] The bank layer (800) may be disposed on the first capping layer (CL1). The bank layer (800) may include an organic material. In some cases, the bank layer (800) may include a light-blocking material to function as a light-blocking layer. The light-blocking material may include, for example, at least one of a black pigment, a black dye, black particles, or metal particles.
[0139] Center openings (COPs) may be defined in the bank layer (800). A center opening (COP) may overlap with a center area (CA). A first center opening (COP1) may overlap with a first center area (CA1). A second center opening (COP2) may overlap with a second center area (CA2). A third center opening (COP3) may overlap with a third center area (CA3).
[0140] The functional layer (500) can fill the central opening (COP). In one embodiment, the functional layer (500) may include at least one of a quantum dot and a scatterer. In one embodiment, the functional layer (500) may include a first quantum dot layer (510), a second quantum dot layer (520), and a transparent layer (530).
[0141] The first quantum dot layer (510) may overlap with the first central region (CA1). The first quantum dot layer (510) may fill the first central opening (COP1).
