Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a gas analysis system, and more specifically, to a gas analysis system that applies an external short-circuit state to a secondary battery and collects and analyzes gas generated inside the secondary battery in the external short-circuit state. Background Technology
[0002] Generally, secondary batteries are batteries capable of repeated use through the discharge process, which converts chemical energy into electrical energy, and the reverse charging process. Due to their high applicability across product categories and electrical characteristics such as high energy density, secondary batteries are widely applied not only in portable devices but also in electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrid vehicles (HVs) powered by electric driving sources.
[0003] Various gases are generated depending on the operating conditions of secondary batteries, and information regarding the composition and content of these generated gases is useful for the development of battery materials, optimization of battery manufacturing processes, and identification of the causes of battery defects.
[0004] The analysis of gases generated from a secondary battery can be performed by housing the secondary battery in a chamber, diffusing the gases generated from the secondary battery into the chamber, and then either immediately transmitting them to a detection device or storing them in a separate gas collection container and connecting the gas collection container to the detection device.

[0028] Hereinafter, the gas analysis system of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4b.
[0029] The gas analysis system of the present invention may be capable of applying an external short-circuit condition to a battery (11) to be analyzed and performing qualitative or quantitative analysis of the gas generated from the battery (11) to be analyzed in an external short-circuit state. More specifically, the gas generated from the battery (11) to be analyzed in an external short-circuit state may be transmitted to a gas detector such as GC-MS (Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) to analyze the composition and amount of gas generated.
[0030] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the gas analysis system of the present invention may comprise: a diffusion chamber unit (100) in which an internal receiving space (115) is formed to accommodate a battery (11) to be analyzed and a gas generated from the battery (11) to be analyzed is diffused into the internal receiving space (115); a variable resistor unit (300) located outside the diffusion chamber unit (100); a connection unit (200) that electrically connects the battery (11) to be analyzed and the variable resistor unit (300); and a gas sampling unit (400) that samples the gas diffused into the internal receiving space (115).
[0031] In the gas analysis system of the present invention, an electrical circuit including a variable resistance unit (300) may provide an external short-circuit state to the battery to be analyzed (11). At this time, the battery to be analyzed (11) is located in the internal accommodation space (115) of the diffusion chamber unit (100), and the electrical circuit including the variable resistance unit (300) may be located outside the diffusion chamber unit (100). A connection unit (200) is located across the internal and external spaces of the diffusion chamber unit (100), and a stable electrical connection between the battery to be analyzed (11) and the variable resistance unit (300) can be achieved by minimizing electrical resistance.
[0032] The battery (11) to be analyzed is a rechargeable secondary battery, and the gas analysis system of the present invention can be applied to various types of batteries such as cylindrical batteries, prismatic batteries, pouch batteries, and coin batteries.
[0033] The gas sampling unit (400) is a container that receives and stores the battery-generated gas diffused into the internal receiving space (115) of the diffusion chamber unit (100), and may be a container made of a material having chemical resistance and heat resistance and a certain level of caustic properties. For example, the gas sampling unit (400) may be made of glass or SUS material. After the battery-generated gas is stored in the gas sampling unit (400), it is connected to a gas detector such as a GC-MS, and the battery-generated gas stored in the gas sampling unit (400) can be qualitatively or quantitatively analyzed through the gas detector.
[0034] A plurality of gas sampling units (400) are provided, and the battery-generated gas can be stored individually in each of the plurality of gas sampling units (400) according to conditions such as temperature, pressure, shock, SOC, and time applied to the battery (11) to be analyzed.
[0035] As illustrated in FIGS. 2a and 2b, the connection unit (200) may include a pair of feed-through sections (230) formed by penetrating the wall of the diffusion chamber unit (100), a pair of first connection cables (210) in which one end is connected to each of the pair of feed-through sections (230) in the internal receiving space (115) of the diffusion chamber unit (100) and the other end is connected to the positive and negative electrodes of the cell (11) to be analyzed, respectively, and a pair of second connection cables (220) in which one end is connected to the variable resistor unit (300) and the other end is connected to each of the pair of feed-through sections (230) outside the unit of the diffusion chamber.
[0036] That is, the connection unit (200) can be formed with two conductive lines connected in the order of [first connecting cable (210)]-[feed-through section (230)]-[second connecting cable (220)]. One line is connected to the positive electrode of the battery to be analyzed (11) and connected to the variable resistor unit (300), and the other line is connected to the negative electrode of the battery to be analyzed (11) and connected to the variable resistor unit (300).
[0037] As illustrated in FIG. 3, the feedthrough portion (230) may include a first connection terminal (231) formed as a rod of a conductive material located in the internal receiving space (115) of the diffusion chamber unit (100), and a second connection terminal (232) formed as a rod of a conductive material located outside the diffusion chamber unit (100).
[0038] The gas analysis system of the present invention may be intended to analyze the gas generated by the battery (11) under external short-circuit conditions. Accordingly, the battery (11) to be analyzed needs to be electrically connected to an electrical circuit located outside the diffusion chamber unit (100) to be subjected to an external short-circuit condition while being housed in an internal receiving space (115) for gas collection. To this end, a feed-through section (230) may be provided for electrical connection between elements or circuits located inside and outside the diffusion chamber unit (100), respectively, without a leak point.
[0039] The feed-through portion (230) may be inserted into a through hole (121) formed in the diffusion chamber unit (100) and positioned across the inside and outside of the diffusion chamber unit (100). Specifically, the feed-through portion (230) further includes a conductor (233) positioned in a state inserted into the through hole (121) and an insulator (234) surrounding the conductor (233). A first connection terminal (231) may be connected to the inner end of the diffusion chamber unit (100) and a second connection terminal (232) may be connected to the outer end of the conductor (233). The first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be formed in a cylindrical column shape and may be provided in a state where the outer surface is exposed without being surrounded by the insulator (234). As shown in FIG. 3, among the feedthrough portion (230), the portion corresponding to the length L1 may be the first connection terminal (231), and the portion corresponding to the length L2 may be the second connection terminal (232).
[0040] The first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be provided with the same shape and specifications, but the first connection terminal (231) may be formed longer than the second connection terminal (232), and the second connection terminal (232) may be formed thicker than the first connection terminal (231). The first connection terminal (231) is located in the internal receiving space (115), and is subjected to harsher conditions such as pressure and temperature than the second connection terminal (232) located outside the diffusion chamber unit (100), and may be subjected to direct physical impact if the battery (11) to be analyzed swells or explodes. That is, in order to have a self-damping function against shock, thermal deformation, etc., and to stably maintain the connection of the first connecting cable (210), the first connecting terminal (231) may be formed longer than the second connecting terminal (232), and the second connecting terminal (232) may be formed thicker than the first connecting terminal (231).
[0041] The materials of the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be made of a metal with lower resistance than Al. For example, the materials of the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be made of Cu.
[0042] The lengths (L1, L2) of the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be formed to be 1 cm to 5 cm, and the diameters (D1, D2) of the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be formed to be 1 inch to 4 inches. At this time, the length (L1) of the first connection terminal (231) may be formed to be longer than the length (L2) of the second connection terminal (232), and the diameter (D2) of the second connection terminal (232) may be formed to be larger than the diameter (D1) of the first connection terminal (231). The ratio of the dimensions between the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232) may be determined by considering the environment of the internal receiving space (115) and the battery (11) to be analyzed.
[0043] As illustrated in FIGS. 2a and 2b, a first connection socket (211) may be provided at one end of the first connection cable (210), in which a first insertion groove (211a) into which the first connection terminal (231) is inserted is formed, and a second connection socket (221) may be provided at the other end of the second connection cable (220), in which a second insertion hole into which the second connection terminal (232) is inserted is formed. The shape of the first insertion groove (211a) and the second insertion groove (221a) may be provided to correspond to the shape of the first connection terminal (231) and the second connection terminal (232), respectively, so that the outer surface of the first connection terminal (231) is in close contact with the inner surface of the first insertion groove (211a), and the outer surface of the second connection terminal (232) may be in close contact with the inner surface of the second insertion groove (221a).
[0044] Specifically, the first connecting cable (210) may be formed such that a first connecting socket (211) is coupled to the end of a first conductor (212) made of a conductive material, and a first insulating sheath (213) made of an insulating material surrounds the outer surface of the first conductor (212) and the first connecting socket (211). The second connecting cable (220) may also be formed such that a second connecting socket (221) is coupled to the end of a second conductor (222), and a second insulating sheath (223) made of an insulating material surrounds the outer surface of the second conductor (222) and the second connecting socket (221). The first conductor (212) may be coupled to one end of the first connecting socket (211), and a first insertion groove (211a) may be formed at the other end. In addition, a second wire (222) may be connected to one end of the second connection socket (221), and a second insertion groove (221a) may be formed at the other end.
[0045] As illustrated in FIGS. 4a and 4b, the diffusion chamber unit (100) may comprise a body portion (110) having an internal receiving space (115) formed inside and one side open, a door portion (120) that covers the open side of the body portion (110) to form the internal receiving space (115) into a sealed space, and a mounting plate portion (130) having one end fixed to the inner side of the door portion (120) and having the battery to be analyzed (11) mounted on its upper surface.
[0046] Specifically, the body portion (110) is formed in a cylindrical shape, and a door portion (120) can be attached to one end in the longitudinal direction. The door portion (120) can be attached to or detached from the body portion (110) by moving in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the body portion (110). As shown in FIG. 4b, since the mounting plate portion (130) is attached to the door portion (120), when the door portion (120) is in an open state (a state separated from the body portion (110)), the mounting plate portion (130) is located outside the body portion (110), and the user can easily install the battery to be analyzed (11) on the mounting plate portion (130). The mounting plate portion (130) may be provided with an electrode fixing jig (131) capable of fixing the electrode lead of the battery to be analyzed (11), and the connection unit (200) can be electrically connected to the battery to be analyzed (11) through the electrode fixing jig (131). As shown in FIG. 4a, when the door portion (120) is closed, the battery to be analyzed (11) can be naturally accommodated in the internal receiving space (115).
[0047] The above door portion (120) may have a pair of feed-through holes (121) through which the pair of feed-through portions (230) each pass. By positioning the feed-through portions (230) in the door portion (120), the first connecting cable (210) can be prevented from being deformed when the door portion (120) is opened or closed.
[0048] An outlet (111) is formed in the body portion (110) through which gas generated from the battery (11) to be analyzed is discharged, and the gas generated from the battery (11) to be analyzed may be delivered to the gas sampling unit (400) through the outlet (111). An opening / closing valve (111a) is provided in the outlet (111) to control the flow of gas discharged through the outlet (111).
[0049] The above diffusion chamber unit (100) is equipped with one or more of a gas sensor (114), a temperature sensor (112), and a pressure sensor (113), and the outlet (111) may be opened or closed based on an output signal obtained from one or more of the gas sensor (114), the temperature sensor (112), and the pressure sensor (113). Specifically, a control signal for opening or closing the opening / closing valve (111a) may be generated based on the signal value output by the gas sensor (114), the temperature sensor (112), the pressure sensor (113), etc.
[0050] The gas sensor (114) located in the diffusion chamber unit (100) is a sensor that only checks whether gas is generated, and may detect gas using, for example, a metal-oxide (MOx) method or a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) method.
[0051] The resistance value of the variable resistor unit (300) may be selected from a value between 0.595 mΩ and 1 kΩ. For example, the variable resistor unit (300) may be a KIKUSUI PLZ1205WB and PLZ2405B (Booster) connected in parallel.
