Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition, and more specifically, to provide an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition that is eco-friendly and has the function of preventing corrosion of roads and structures including steel caused by the use of de-icing agents, as well as protecting the surrounding ecosystem. Background Technology
[0003] Generally, eco-friendly de-icing agents include chloride-based de-icing agents such as sodium chloride, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride, non-chloride-based de-icing agents such as acetates and carbonates, and hybrid de-icing agents that combine chloride-based and non-chloride-based de-icing agents. However, chloride-based de-icing agents, which are inexpensive and have excellent ice-melting and snow-melting performance, are mainly used.
[0004] Chloride-based de-icing agents exert their de-icing effect by lowering the freezing point of water. Among chloride-based agents, calcium chloride exhibits excellent hygroscopicity, allowing it to absorb surrounding moisture and simultaneously dissolve in water. The heat generated by this exothermic reaction enables rapid and effective de-icing. Although sodium chloride does not cause an exothermic reaction, it acts by lowering the freezing point, making it an effective de-icing agent capable of preventing refreezing.
[0005] As such, chloride-based de-icing agents have the advantage of being highly economical and exhibiting effective snow removal performance; however, if these agents dissolve in water and flow into roads or rivers, problems arise, such as road corrosion caused by chloride ions that reduce road durability, corrosion of structures containing iron like rebar and vehicles, and soil acidification that kills vegetation near the road.
[0006] In particular, the deterioration of road durability caused by the use of chloride-based de-icing agents leads to accidents, lowering driving safety and increasing overall road maintenance costs, thus posing a problem of significant social cost expenditure associated with the use of de-icing agents.
[0007] Accordingly, there is a need for a new eco-friendly de-icing agent composition that can secure ice-melting and snow-melting performance through the use of high-cost chloride-based de-icing agents, while preventing problems such as road corrosion caused by this. Prior art literature
[0009] Registered Patent No. 10-2470091 (Registered Nov. 18, 2022) The problem to be solved
[0010] The present invention aims to provide an environmentally friendly mixed de-icing agent composition and a method for manufacturing the same, which prevents corrosion of roads and structures including steel caused by the use of de-icing agents and protects the surrounding ecosystem. means of solving the problem
[0012] One embodiment of the present invention for achieving the above-described purpose relates to a mixed de-icing agent composition comprising sodium chloride, calcium chloride, polyethylene oxide, and a corrosion inhibitor. In particular, polyethylene oxide dissolves in water and forms a thin cross-linked hydrogel on roads and metal structures, thereby significantly improving the corrosion inhibition effect when used in conjunction with an ion adsorption function and a corrosion inhibitor, and possesses eco-friendly characteristics. Meanwhile, due to the viscosity-enhancing properties of polyethylene oxide in the dissolved de-icing agent, the dissolved de-icing agent remains on the road for a longer period, which ultimately reduces the amount of de-icing agent used, thereby increasing economic efficiency.
[0014] An eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises sodium chloride, calcium chloride, an ethylene oxide polymer, and a corrosion inhibitor.
[0015] It is preferable that the corrosion inhibitor used above be sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) and / or sodium triphosphate (STPP), and it is even more preferable that the ethylene oxide polymer be polyethylene oxide or polyethylene glycol.
[0016] More specifically, the above-mentioned eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition may comprise 55-73 wt% sodium chloride, 25-41 wt% calcium chloride, 1-4.5 wt% ethylene oxide polymer, and 1-3 wt% corrosion inhibitor.
[0017] It is preferable to use the above corrosion inhibitor and ethylene oxide polymer in a weight ratio of 1:0.5 to 2.25.
[0018] Another embodiment of the present invention is a method for manufacturing an eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition, wherein the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition is manufactured by mixing 55-73 wt% sodium chloride, 25-41 wt% calcium chloride, 1-4.5 wt% ethylene oxide polymer, and 1-3 wt% corrosion inhibitor.
[0019] Another embodiment of the present invention may include an eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition comprising 64 wt% sodium chloride, 32 wt% calcium chloride, 2 wt% polyethylene oxide, and 2 wt% sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), wherein the molecular weight of the polyethylene oxide is 100,000, and an eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition comprising 62 wt% sodium chloride, 32 wt% calcium chloride, 4 wt% polyethylene glycol, and 2 wt% sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), wherein the molecular weight of the polyethylene glycol is 6,000. Effects of the invention
[0021] The mixed de-icing agent composition of the present invention has the advantages of being highly economical as it minimizes usage, being environmentally friendly, minimizing road damage and vehicle corrosion caused by the use of de-icing agents, and simultaneously protecting the surrounding ecosystem. Specific details for implementing the invention
[0023] Before describing the preferred embodiments of the present invention in detail below, it should be noted that the terms and words used in this specification and claims should not be interpreted as being limited to their ordinary or dictionary meanings, but should be interpreted in a meaning and concept consistent with the technical spirit of the present invention.
[0024] Throughout this specification, when a part is described as “comprising” a certain component, it means that, unless specifically stated otherwise, it does not exclude other components but may include additional components.
[0025] Throughout this specification, “%” used to indicate the concentration of a specific substance means (weight / weight)% for solid / solid, (weight / volume)% for solid / liquid, and (volume / volume)% for liquid / liquid, unless otherwise noted.
[0026] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention are examined. However, the scope of the present invention is not limited to the following preferred embodiments, and those skilled in the art may implement various modified forms of the contents described herein within the scope of the present invention.
[0027] The present invention relates to an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition and a method for manufacturing the same. The eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention has the advantage of being environmentally friendly while having excellent de-icing performance, and minimizing or preventing corrosion of rebar or vehicles and road damage caused by the use of de-icing agents, while simultaneously protecting the surrounding ecosystem.
[0028] One embodiment of the present invention relates to an eco-friendly mixed de-icing agent composition comprising sodium chloride, calcium chloride, an ethylene oxide polymer, and a corrosion inhibitor, comprising 55 to 73 wt% sodium chloride, 25 to 41 wt% calcium chloride, 1 to 4.5 wt% ethylene oxide polymer, and 1 to 3 wt% corrosion inhibitor.
[0029] The sodium chloride and calcium chloride included in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention basically function as de-icing agents by lowering the freezing point, and have the advantages of being inexpensive, highly economical, and having excellent performance as de-icing agents.
[0030] The above sodium chloride (NaCl) is salt and can be used as an environmentally friendly de-icing agent composition, such as industrial sodium chloride or solar salt, without any particular restrictions. Sodium chloride has a melting point of approximately -21°C, and when applied as a de-icing agent, it dissolves in water and lowers the freezing point of water to approximately -21°C, thereby acting as a de-icing agent that melts snow and inhibits freezing. Sodium chloride has a saturated solubility approximately 15 times greater than that of calcium chloride, resulting in very high efficiency in melting and inhibiting freezing. Since this melting and freezing effect lasts for a long time, it is effective in inhibiting refreezing.
[0031] The above sodium chloride can be used in an amount of 55 to 73 wt% in an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition. When included within this content, efficient ice-melting performance due to sodium chloride is achieved, and problems caused by the use of sodium chloride, such as endothermic reactions during dissolution or rapid promotion of soil acidification which hinders the growth and causes surrounding plants to wither, can be minimized. Therefore, it is desirable to include it within the weight range described above.
[0032] Meanwhile, calcium chloride (CaCl2) is a component that exhibits a de-icing effect by directly melting snow or ice together with sodium chloride. It has the advantage of being able to achieve an ice-melting effect even at extremely low temperatures because its eutectic point is low, approximately -51°C. In addition, it has excellent hygroscopicity and causes an exothermic reaction upon dissolution, which can produce an enhanced snow-melting and ice-melting effect. Furthermore, since this effect is rapid, it has the advantage of enabling quick de-icing.
[0033] The above calcium chloride may be included in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition in an amount of 25 to 41 wt%. If included in an amount less than the above weight range, the de-icing effect is reduced due to the combined action with sodium chloride, and if included in an amount exceeding the above weight range, problems may arise in the sustainability of the de-icing agent due to the relative decrease in sodium chloride content. Therefore, it is preferable to include it within the weight range described above.
[0034] Sodium chloride and calcium chloride, which directly perform the snow removal function in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention, have excellent snow removal performance but address the disadvantage of chloride-based de-icing agents, namely chloride ions (Cl - Due to the strong corrosiveness caused by ), it severely corrodes iron-containing structures such as automobiles, rebar, and steel frames, and also corrodes concrete and asphalt roads, so there is a problem of shortening the lifespan of all road facilities when using de-icing agents. Accordingly, in the present invention, an ethylene oxide polymer having an ion adsorption function that forms a hydrogel when dissolved in water and a corrosion inhibitor are used together in an eco-friendly de-icing agent, thereby maintaining the de-icing effect of using the de-icing agent while minimizing or preventing problems such as corrosion and damage to iron structures and roads caused by chloride-based de-icing agents.
[0035] As the above ethylene oxide polymer, polyethylene oxide or polyethylene glycol may be used.
[0036] Polyethylene oxide (PEO) or polyethylene glycol is an eco-friendly polymer with water-soluble biodegradable properties. It dissolves in water generated by the melting and snow-melting action of sodium chloride or calcium chloride, penetrates into the pores present on the road surface, and coats the road surface to increase the road's freeze-thaw resistance. Additionally, it can prevent road corrosion by blocking contact between chlorides and the surfaces of the road and metal structures.
[0037] In addition, polyethylene oxide and polyethylene glycol are materials that can be mixed into asphalt or concrete compositions or used for surface coating to improve road durability. In particular, when used in fiber form, they can improve the compressive strength of the road and increase the bonding strength between aggregates, thereby improving the physical performance and lifespan of the road. When such an ethylene oxide copolymer is used in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention, it dissolves due to water generated during de-icing, adsorbs metal salt ions, coats the road surface, and penetrates into the pores of the road. Subsequently, when the ethylene oxide polymer dries again, it exists in the form of fibers between the pores and as a coating layer on the road surface, thereby improving the durability of the road by enhancing the bonding strength between aggregates, increasing compressive strength accordingly, and protecting the road surface through the coating layer.
[0038] In order to obtain the corrosion inhibition and road durability improvement effects of such ethylene oxide polymers, it is preferable that the ethylene oxide polymer be used in an amount of 1 to 4.5 wt% in the total eco-friendly de-icing agent composition. If it is included in an amount less than the above weight range, the corrosion inhibition and durability improvement effects are negligible, and if it is included in an amount exceeding the above weight range, the insoluble content in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition increases, making it difficult to use as a de-icing agent. Therefore, it is preferable that it be included within the weight range described above, and more preferably, in the case of polyethylene oxide, it can be used in a range of 1 to 3 wt%, and in the case of polyethylene glycol, in a range of 3 to 4.5 wt%.
[0039] Most preferably, polyethylene oxide with a molecular weight of 100,000 may be included at a concentration of 2 wt%, or polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 6,000 may be included at a concentration of 4 wt%.
[0040] The above corrosion inhibitor is a substance with very high ion blocking power, and can inhibit corrosion caused by ions by blocking the activity of ions. At least one of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) and sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) may be used as such a corrosion inhibitor, and it is more preferable to use sodium hexametaphosphate, which has an excellent corrosion inhibition effect.
[0041] Such corrosion inhibitors may be included in the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention in an amount of 1 to 3 wt%. If included in an amount less than the above weight range, the corrosion inhibition effect by the corrosion inhibitor is negligible, and if included in an amount exceeding the above weight range, there is a problem of not satisfying the de-icing agent insoluble matter standard due to an increase in insoluble matter caused by the formation of excessive complexes with calcium ions, as well as a decrease in corrosion inhibition efficiency. Therefore, it is preferable to include them within the above weight range.
[0042] In the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention, the corrosion inhibitor and the ethylene oxide polymer added to inhibit corrosion may be included in a weight ratio of 1:0.5 to 2.25. In particular, when sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) is used as the corrosion inhibitor, it forms cross-links through interaction with the ethylene oxide polymer and forms a protective layer, thereby not only improving the corrosion prevention effect but also ensuring freeze-thaw resistance. It is preferable to include it in the weight ratio described above to enhance the corrosion inhibition effect through the interaction between the ethylene oxide polymer and the corrosion inhibitor.
[0043] Preferably, when polyethylene oxide is used as the ethylene oxide polymer, the corrosion inhibitor and polyethylene oxide may be used in a weight ratio of 1:0.5 to 1.5, and when polyethylene glycol is used, the corrosion inhibitor and polyethylene glycol may be used in a weight ratio of 1:1.5 to 2.
[0045] Meanwhile, another embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition. The method for manufacturing an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition according to this embodiment may include the step of manufacturing an eco-friendly de-icing agent composition by mixing 55-73 wt% sodium chloride, 25-41 wt% calcium chloride, 1-4.5 wt% ethylene oxide copolymer, and 1-3 wt% corrosion inhibitor. Since the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition according to one embodiment of the present invention described above can be manufactured through this method, some overlapping descriptions are omitted.
[0046] When preparing the eco-friendly de-icing agent composition of the present invention, sodium chloride, calcium chloride, ethylene oxide polymer, and corrosion inhibitor are all solid powders, and the mixing thereof can be carried out by a dry mixing method, and the stirring speed and stirring time during mixing are not particularly limited.
[0047] Hereinafter, the specific operation and effects of the present invention will be explained through an embodiment of the present invention. However, this is presented as a preferred example of the present invention, and the scope of the rights of the present invention is not limited according to the embodiment.
[0049] [Experimental Example 1]
[0050] Samples of de-icing agent compositions were prepared by mixing sodium chloride, calcium chloride, polyethylene oxide (PEO), polyethylene glycol, and polyvinyl alcohol in various compositional ratios, and a steel corrosion test was performed using each sample to calculate the mass loss. The relative corrosiveness was calculated as the percentage of the mass loss of the sample relative to the mass loss of the reference substance (sodium chloride), and the relative corrosiveness was listed in Table 1.
[0051] The mass loss of the sample was etched by repeating a set of steps for 7 days, in which a test specimen (150×50×1 mm zinc steel plate) was placed in an aqueous solution of a de-icing agent composition sample concentration of 2.91%, immersed for 8 hours, and then removed from the solution and left for 16 hours.
[0052] Afterward, the specimen was placed in an aqueous solution of diammonium hydrogen citrate to remove corrosion products, and the mass loss (W) of the specimen was calculated using the following [Equation 1].
[0053] [Equation 1]
[0054] (In the above [Equation 1], W is the mass loss of the specimen, W1 is the initial mass of the specimen, W2 is the mass of the specimen after the removal of corrosion products, and A is the surface area of the specimen.)
[0056] wt% Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3 Sample 4 Sample 5 Sample 6 Sample 7 Sample 8 Sample 9 Sample 10 NaCl 66 66 66 66 66 64 64 64 64 64 CaCl2 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 PVA 2 2 2 2 2 PEG 2k 2 2 PEG 6k 2 2 PEO 20k 2 2 PEO 100k 2 2 PEO 200k 2 2 Relative corrosion 120 117 112 100 103 253 250 246 242 240
[0057] (Here, k means 1000, and is used with the same meaning throughout the following)
[0059] Looking at the experimental results in Table 1 above, it was found that in the case of de-icing agents mixed only with ethylene oxide polymers such as PEO or PEG, as in samples 1 to 5, the relative corrosiveness was all over 100, indicating very high relative corrosiveness.
[0060] In addition, it was found that even when polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is known as an existing eco-friendly de-icing agent component, was additionally mixed, the relative corrosiveness did not improve at all and actually increased by more than twofold.
[0061] Through this, no improvement in relative corrosion resistance was observed even when using ethylene oxide polymers alone without corrosion inhibitors, or when using a polymer mixture with additional polyvinyl alcohol mixed in at the same concentration.
[0063] [Experimental Example 2]
[0064] An eco-friendly de-icing agent composition was prepared by mixing sodium chloride, calcium chloride, ethylene oxide polymer, polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), a corrosion inhibitor. As shown in Table 2 below, samples were prepared using a 1:1:1 mixture of ethylene oxide polymer, PVA, and SHMP and a 1:1 mixture of ethylene oxide polymer and SHMP, and then the relative corrosiveness was calculated in the same manner as in Experimental Example 1 and listed in Table 2.
[0065] wt% Sample 11 Sample 12 Sample 13 Sample 14 Sample 15 Sample 16 Sample 17 Sample 18 Sample 19 Sample 20 NaCl 62 62 62 62 64 64 64 64 64 64 CaCl2 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 PVA 2 2 2 2 2 PEG 2k 2 PEG 6k 2 2 PEO 20k 2 2 PEO 100k 2 2 PEO 200k 2 2 SHMP 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 Relative corrosion 62 64 60 63 11 9 7 5 7 6
[0067] As can be seen from the experimental results in Table 2 above, when SHMP, a corrosion inhibitor, was used, it was confirmed that the relative corrosion was significantly reduced compared to Experimental Example 1 examined earlier. However, compared to samples 11 to 14 using a polymer mixture of ethylene oxide polymer and PVA, when ethylene oxide polymer was used alone, it was confirmed that the relative corrosion was significantly reduced to less than 10% of the level of Experimental Example 1 due to the synergistic effect with the corrosion inhibitor.
[0068] In particular, the relative corrosion of the mixed de-icing agent composition prepared by mixing polyethylene oxide with a molecular weight of 100k as an ethylene oxide polymer with the corrosion inhibitor in the same ratio (2 wt% each) showed the lowest value.
[0069] Based on these experimental results, the following experiment was conducted using only ethylene oxide polymer as the polymer included in the de-icing agent composition.
[0071] [Experimental Example 3]
[0072] Sodium chloride, calcium chloride, an ethylene oxide polymer (polyethylene glycol (PEG) with a molecular weight of 6k or polyethylene oxide (PEO) with a molecular weight of 100k) and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), a corrosion inhibitor, were mixed to prepare a de-icing agent composition while varying the weight ratio of PEO to SHMP or the weight ratio of PEG to SHMP in the de-icing agent composition, and the relative corrosiveness was calculated in the same manner as in Experimental Example 1 and listed in Table 3.
[0073] wt% Sample 21 Sample 22 Sample 23 Sample 24 Sample 25 Sample 26 Sample 27 Sample 28 Sample 29 NaCl 62 58 63 62.5 61.5 65 64.5 63.5 63 CaCl2 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 PEG 6k 4 8 3 3.5 4.5 PEO 100k 1 1.5 2.5 3 SHMP 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 Relative corrosion 5 22 7 7 7 9 7 7 9
[0075] Referring to the experimental results in Table 3 above, it was found that the relative corrosiveness in the de-icing agent composition remained in a very low range (7–9%) when the content ratio of SHMP to PEO in the range of 1:0.5–1.5. On the other hand, in the case of PEG, the relative corrosiveness remained very low at a level similar to PEO in the range of 1:1.5–2.25, but when the content of PEG increased excessively (Sample 22), the relative corrosiveness actually increased.
[0076] Through these results, it was found that it is preferable to mix the corrosion inhibitor and ethylene oxide polymer in a weight ratio of 0.5 to 2.25, and that the lowest relative corrosion was observed when PEG with a molecular weight of 6k was used as the ethylene oxide polymer and the ratio with the corrosion inhibitor was maintained at 1:2.
[0078] [Experimental Example 4]
[0079] Aqueous solutions of PEO (molecular weight 200k) and PEG (molecular weight 6k) were prepared at various concentrations, and the water-insoluble content of the PEO aqueous solutions at different concentrations was measured according to KS M ISO 2479. The results were recorded in Tables 4 and 5.
[0080] PEO content (wt%) Water-insoluble matter (wt%) 0.5 0.27 1 0.57 2 0.88 3 1.15 4 1.37 5 1.61
[0081] PEG content (wt%) Water-insoluble matter (wt%) 0.5 0.05 or less 1 0.22 2 0.55 4 0.91 8 1.28 12 1.56
[0082] In order for it to be used as a de-icing agent, the water-insoluble content must be 1.0 wt% or less, more preferably 1.0 wt% or less. Therefore, through the results of this experiment, it can be seen that it is desirable for the maximum polyethylene oxide content to be 4 wt% or less and the maximum PEG content to be 8 wt%, and it can be seen that the content of PEG and PEO examined in Experimental Examples 2 and 3 above is at a level that does not form water-insoluble content.
