Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a thermally activated delayed fluorescent picolinonitrile derivative and an organic light-emitting device comprising the same. More specifically, the invention relates to a thermally activated delayed fluorescent picolinonitrile derivative comprising an electron donor unit and an electron acceptor unit, and an organic light-emitting device comprising the same that exhibits excellent photophysical properties. Background Technology

[0002] In general fluorescence, S1 is the singlet energy and T1 is the triplet energy, and singlet excitons are generated with a 25% probability, while the remaining 75% of triplet excitons disappear without emitting light; therefore, theoretically, fluorescence has an internal quantum efficiency of 25%. In the case of fluorescence, which is the main light emission method of currently used OLEDs, device stability is high, but the luminescence efficiency (25% based on internal quantum efficiency) is low.

[0003] In the case of phosphorescence capable of increasing internal quantum efficiency to 100%, material costs are currently high due to the use of platinum-based rare metals.

[0004] On the other hand, Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF), which has recently been attracting attention, is gaining interest because it has the advantage of being able to increase internal quantum efficiency to 100% even without using platinum-based rare metals. Specifically, by making the energy difference between S1 and T1 small, the state of the exciton can be changed from T1 to S1 using thermal energy present at room temperature, thereby enabling fluorescence with an internal quantum efficiency of 100%, which is called Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF).

[0005] Accordingly, there is a need for research on materials for Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF) that can achieve excellent luminescence efficiency. The problem to be solved

[0053] After numerous studies and efforts, the inventors of the present invention synthesized a picolinonitrile derivative having a structure in which a carbazole group is combined as an electron donor unit and a picolinonitrile group is combined as an electron acceptor unit. Since this molecule exhibits specific energy levels with the separation of HOMO and LUMO, the energy gap between the singlet and triplet states is minimized, allowing electrons in the triplet state to move to the singlet state and efficiently emit light. It was confirmed that this can improve the thermal stability, color purity, and luminous efficiency of organic light-emitting devices, leading to the completion of the present invention.

[0077]

[0078] PL (photoluminescence) is a process in which a thermally activated delayed fluorescent picolinonitrile derivative emits light when energy of a specific wavelength is injected in the form of light, and the emission peak can determine the color of the emitted light.

[0079] In the present invention, the heat-activated delayed fluorescent picorinonitrile derivative may have a photoluminescence (PL) wavelength peak of 500 to 550 nm in the green color range.

[0080] PLQY (Photoluminescence Quantum Yield) is the ratio of the number of photons emitted by a material to the number of photons absorbed, representing the photoluminescence efficiency with respect to excitation light; a high PLQY indicates that a light-emitting device utilizing it can possess high efficiency.

[0081] In the present invention, the PLQY of the heat-activated delayed fluorescent picorinonitrile derivative may be 20 to 60%, and more specifically, the PLQY may be 23 to 55%.

[0082] HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) and LUMO (Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital) can represent the energy levels of a molecule's highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, respectively. HOMO and LUMO levels represent the electron transfer capabilities of a molecule and are related to the injection and transport of charge carriers in organic light-emitting diodes.

[0083] In the present invention, the HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) energy level of the heat-activated delayed fluorescent picorinonitrile derivative may be -5.1 eV to -4.9 eV, and the LUMO (Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital) energy level may be -2.4 eV to -2.2 eV.

[0084] Meanwhile, the present invention comprises an anode; a cathode; and an organic layer disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the organic layer may include the thermally activated delayed fluorescent picorinonitrile derivative.

[0085] Organic light-emitting diodes emit light through the recombination of electrons and holes, but it is generally known that the luminescence efficiency is low in the triplet state. By using the thermally activated delayed fluorescent picolinonitrile derivative according to the present invention, electrons in the triplet state can also efficiently emit light, thereby exhibiting excellent thermal stability, color purity, and luminescence efficiency.

[0086] An organic light-emitting device according to one embodiment of the present invention is described below.

[0089] The above-mentioned cathode is not limited to any material capable of efficiently injecting electrons into an organic layer, but, for example, can be formed from a metal, alloy, electrically conductive compound, or a mixture thereof having a low work function. Specifically, it can be formed from lithium (Li), magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), aluminum-lithium (Al-Li), calcium (Ca), magnesium-indium (Mg-In), magnesium-silver (Mg-Ag), etc., and these materials may have multiple layers either alone or in combination.

[0090] The above organic layer is disposed between the anode and the cathode, and is specifically composed of a hole transport region, a light-emitting layer, and an electron transport region, so that an exciton formed through the recombination of a hole supplied from the anode and an electron supplied from the cathode can emit light during the process of transitioning to the ground state.

[0093] The above dopant material may be in an amount of 0.01 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the host material. If the content of the dopant material is excessively small or large beyond the above range, it is undesirable as it may not be able to produce the effects intended by the present invention. Specifically, it may be 0.1 to 15, 1 to 15, or 5 to 12.

[0094] The hole transport region is disposed between the anode and the light-emitting layer and allows holes to be easily injected from the anode. The hole transport region may include a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer.

[0095] The hole injection layer above allows holes to be easily injected from the anode, and contains phthalocyanine compounds such as copper phthalocyanine, m-MTDATA [4,4',4''-tris (3-methylphenylphenylamino) triphenylamine], NPB (N,N'-di(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenylbenzidine)), TDATA, 2-TNATA, Pani / DBSA (Polyaniline / Dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid), PEDOT / PSS (Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) / Poly(4-styrenesulfonate)), and Pani / CSA (Polyaniline / Camphor sulfonic acid It may be formed from a material selected from acid: polyaniline / camphorsulfonic acid), PANI / PSS (Polyaniline) / Poly (4-styrene sulfonate): polyaniline) / poly(4-styrene sulfonate)), HAT-CN (1,4,5,8,9,11-Hexaazatriphenylenehexacarbonitrile), etc., but is not limited thereto.

[0096] The hole transport layer described above can, for example, transport holes delivered through a hole injection layer to an emissive layer, and may include, for example, carbazole derivatives such as polyvinylcarbazole, fluorine derivatives, triphenylamine derivatives such as TPD (N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-[1,1-biphenyl]-4,4'-diamine), TCTA (4,4',4"-tris(Ncarbazolyl)triphenylamine), NPD (N,N'-di(naphthalene-l-yl)-N,N'-diplienyl-benzidine), TAPC (4,4-Cyclohexylidene bis[N,N-bis(4-methylphenyl)benzenamine]), HMTPD (4,4'-Bis[N,N'-(3-tolyl)amino]-3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl), It may be NPB (N,N'-Diphenyl-N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine), HT-1, two or more substances selected from these.

[0097] The electron transport region is disposed between the cathode and the light-emitting layer and allows electrons to be easily injected from the anode. The electron transport region may include an electron injection layer and an electron transport layer.

[0098] The above electron injection layer may be formed from one or more selected from, for example, LiF, NaCl, CsF, Li2O, BaO, etc., but is not limited thereto.

[0099] The electron transport layer is disposed between the light-emitting layer and the electron injection layer and can transport electrons delivered through the electron injection layer to the light-emitting layer. For example, the electron transport layer may be formed of quinoline derivatives such as tris(8-quinolinolate)aluminum, TAZ (3-(4-biphenylyl)-4-phenyl-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazole), C60, other fluorene series, etc., but is not limited thereto.

[0166] Organic light-emitting diodes were fabricated using the green thermally activated delayed fluorescent compounds synthesized in Examples 1 to 6 as the light-emitting layer material, and PL (nm) was measured under low temperature (-77℃) conditions in liquid nitrogen. Additionally, UV absorption spectra, PLQY (%), HOMO (eV), and LUMO (eV) were measured and are shown in Table 2 below.

[0167] The organic light-emitting diode (OLED) was fabricated under the following conditions. An ITO substrate was patterned to have a light-emitting area of 2 mm x 2 mm. The ITO substrate was then mounted in the substrate holder of a vacuum deposition apparatus, and the pressure was applied to a vacuum level of 1 x 10⁻⁷ torr. Subsequently, a HAT-CN compound was vacuum-deposited to a thickness of 5 nm. This compound acts as the hole injection layer. On top of this, NPB material was formed as the first hole transport layer to a thickness of 50 nm. Next, HT-1 material was formed as the second hole transport layer to a thickness of 10 nm. Afterward, a green light-emitting layer was formed by co-depositing a synthetic material as a dopant to a thickness of 30 nm at a mass ratio of approximately 10%. An electron transport layer of ET-1 compound was formed to a thickness of 35 nm on top of this light-emitting layer. Subsequently, LiF material was deposited to form an electron injection layer to a thickness of 1 nm. Finally, Al was deposited to a thickness of 100 nm to form the cathode, thereby fabricating the organic EL device.
