Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present application relates to a preservative composition and a cosmetic composition containing the same. Background Technology
[0002] Chemical preservatives such as 1,2-hexanediol are widely used in cosmetic compositions. Although chemical preservatives have excellent antibacterial properties, they can cause skin irritation or affect formulation stability, and if used at high concentrations, there is a concern that they may have adverse effects on skin health in the long term.
[0003] Accordingly, there is a demand for the development of natural preservatives that can replace chemical preservatives. However, natural preservatives have a limited antimicrobial spectrum, and relatively high concentrations must be applied to achieve a preservative effect equivalent to that of chemical preservatives. Furthermore, there are limitations in that using natural preservatives at high concentrations can lead to reduced formulation stability or skin irritation. Prior art literature

[0118] As a result of the experiment, the composition according to the example satisfied the criteria for evaluating preservation efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida, and fungi. That is, it can be confirmed that the composition according to the example, containing propylene glycol caprylate and glyceryl caprylate in a specific ratio, has a broad antimicrobial spectrum and exhibits excellent preservative effects.
[0119] In contrast, Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which contain only one of propylene glycol caprylate or glyceryl caprylate; Comparative Examples 3, 4, 7, and 8, in which the content ratio of the two components falls outside a specific range; and Comparative Examples 11 and 12, which contain 1,2-butanediol or 1,3-butanediol, did not exhibit a broad antibacterial spectrum like that of the Examples, and in particular, lacked a preservative effect against the fungus Aspergillus brasiliensis.
[0121] Experimental Example 2: Formulation Stability Evaluation
[0122] The formulation stability of the preparation example and comparative preparation example was evaluated. Each composition was stored at 25°C or 45°C for 30 days immediately after preparation. Afterward, the appearance was visually observed at room temperature for 7 days, and the formulation stability was evaluated as good (O) or separated (X).
[0124] The experimental results are shown in Table 18.

[0128] As a result of the experiment, Preparation Examples 1 to 18 all exhibited excellent stability, as no separation of the formulation was observed even after being stored for 30 days under conditions of 25°C and 45°C. In other words, it can be seen that when the preservative composition according to the embodiments of the present application is applied to cosmetics of various formulations, such as creams, sunscreens, and lip glosses, product stability can be ensured over a wide temperature range.
[0129] In contrast, comparative manufacturing examples containing the composition of the comparative example were found to have poor stability, with formulation separation occurring at 25°C or 45°C in most cases.
[0131] Experimental Example 3: Skin Irritation Evaluation
[0132] Skin irritation of the Preparation Example and Comparative Preparation Example was evaluated. Twenty healthy men and women in their 20s and 30s were tested on the forearms (50 cm) of both arms. 2 A fixed amount (approx. 0.2 g) of the sample was applied to the site for 48 hours, after which it was removed. The application site was marked with a skin marking pen, and the results were evaluated visually after 1 hour, 24 hours, and 48 hours. The evaluation criteria are listed in Table 19, and the experimental results are shown in Table 20.

[0138] As a result of the experiment, Preparation Examples 1 to 18 were evaluated as having no skin irritation, as they did not cause any erythema or specific symptoms in the 48-hour test. In other words, it can be seen that the composition according to the examples has an excellent preservative effect while being very safe for use on human skin.
[0139] In contrast, in some comparative manufacturing examples such as Comparative Manufacturing Examples 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 13, and 15, a phenomenon was observed where the skin became slightly redder or significantly redder than the surroundings, indicating that skin irritation was induced.
