Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an LED flexible substrate capable of adjusting the spacing distance and a device using the same. More specifically, the invention relates to an LED flexible substrate capable of adjusting the spacing distance and a device using the same, wherein a fixed frame and a deformable frame are attached to the back surface of a flexible substrate to which a plurality of LEDs are attached, thereby allowing the size and direction of the flexibility to be adjusted, so that even when a curved surface occurs in a display or lamp requiring a curved surface, a constant pitch (spacing) between LEDs can be maintained, thereby maintaining a constant illuminance. Background Technology
[0002] Generally, LED light-emitting devices are used in various fields such as display devices, lighting devices, and automotive lamps, and are configured to be attached at regular intervals on a fixed substrate to achieve a desired illuminance. In particular, there has recently been an increasing demand for applying LEDs to curved structures, such as curved displays, wearable devices, and automotive exterior lamps. Accordingly, a technology that allows LEDs to be attached to a flexible substrate to adapt to curved surfaces is attracting attention.
[0003] However, the conventional method of directly attaching LEDs to a flexible substrate has a problem in that the spacing (pitch) between LEDs becomes uneven when the substrate bends or stretches. For example, when the substrate stretches horizontally, the center undergoes relatively more deformation, while the deformation becomes smaller towards the edges, causing the LED spacing to expand unevenly. As a result, the array density between LEDs becomes inconsistent, leading to a problem of uneven illumination.
[0004] For example, in the case of curved displays, the overall visual quality of the screen is degraded because parts of the screen become brighter due to narrower LED spacing, while other parts become darker due to wider spacing. Furthermore, in automotive lamps (e.g., headlights, taillights, mood lights, etc.), uneven illumination when LEDs are placed on curved structures can affect not only aesthetic issues but also driving safety.
[0005] To solve this problem, a structural device is required that can maintain a constant spacing between LEDs even when the substrate undergoes stretching or changes in curvature. Prior art literature

[0033] Hereinafter, an LED flexible substrate capable of adjusting separation distance and a device using the same according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

In addition, FIG. 8 is a drawing showing an embodiment of a tail lamp of an LED flexible substrate with adjustable spacing according to the present invention, FIG. 9 is a drawing showing an embodiment of a left head lamp of an LED flexible substrate with adjustable spacing according to the present invention, FIG. 10 is a drawing showing an embodiment of a high beam mode of a head lamp of an LED flexible substrate with adjustable spacing according to the present invention, and FIG. 11 is a drawing showing an artificial intelligence model of a fixed frame (3100) of an LED flexible substrate with adjustable spacing according to the present invention.
[0035] Referring to FIG. 1, the LED flexible substrate (100) capable of adjusting the spacing distance according to the present invention comprises a plurality of LED elements (1000), a substrate (2000) made of a flexible material on which the plurality of LED elements (1000) are arranged and attached on one surface, and a control plate (3000) attached to the other surface of the substrate (2000) to adjust the flexibility of the substrate (2000).
[0036] A plurality of LED elements (1000) are arranged and attached to one side of the substrate (2000), and a control plate (3000) is attached to the other side. The substrate (2000) is formed of a material with excellent elasticity and elongation properties, so that it can be extended in the longitudinal direction of the substrate when a tensile force is applied from the outside. At this time, since both ends of the substrate (2000) are constrained by an external frame or a fixing device, the elongation at both ends is relatively limited, and accordingly, the central part of the substrate (2000) is extended the most. In other words, the elongation characteristics of the substrate have a distribution in which elongation is less towards both ends and elongation is concentrated in the central part.
[0037] The above-mentioned control plate (3000) is attached to the other side of the substrate (2000) to control the degree of elongation and the elongation distribution of the substrate (2000). Depending on the material, thickness, shape, and attachment position of the control plate (3000), the elasticity of a specific section of the substrate (2000) can be suppressed or allowed. This allows for uniform control of the change in the distance between multiple LED elements (1000) or control so that the distance changes significantly only in a specific section. For example, if the control plate (3000) is placed in the center, the elongation of the central part of the substrate (2000) can be suppressed and the elongation can be dispersed toward both ends. Conversely, if the control plate (3000) is placed at both ends, the elongation of the central part can be induced to appear more significantly. Additionally, as will be described later, the elongation of the substrate can be controlled by mixing a portion that can be stretched (deformable frame) and a portion that cannot be stretched (fixed frame) within the control plate (3000) itself.
[0038] Meanwhile, the arrangement spacing of the plurality of LED elements (1000) changes according to the elongation characteristics of the substrate (2000). In the initial state where the substrate (2000) is not elongated, the LED elements (1000) are arranged at regular intervals, but when the substrate (2000) is elongated, the spacing between the LED elements in the central part changes the most, while the LED elements at both ends show relatively small spacing changes. Therefore, in the present invention, by appropriately designing the arrangement and characteristics of the control plate (3000), the distribution of spacing changes of the LED elements can be controlled, thereby enabling a uniform light emission effect even when attached to a curved surface or an irregular structure.
[0039] As such, the LED flexible substrate (100) of the present invention, capable of adjusting the separation distance, utilizes the fact that the greatest elongation occurs in the central part by considering the elongation characteristics of the substrate (2000), and by finely controlling the elongation distribution through the control plate (3000), it has the advantage of being able to respond to various uses and structures.
[0040] Referring to FIG. 2, FIG. 2 shows that the spacing between LEDs (l1, l2, l3) attached to the substrate changes when the substrate is stretched. That is, when the substrate is stretched, the structure is connected at both ends and stretched, so the middle part stretches more, and the stretching towards the ends (stretching direction) is limited. Therefore, d1 becomes larger than d2, and accordingly, the spacing between the LEDs changes.
[0041] In the case of a flexible substrate to which an LED is attached, the LED may be a mini LED or a standard LED of a relatively large size. Ultra-small mini LEDs can be applied to displays, while large LEDs can be used as lighting. In particular, they can be applied as automotive light sources in various locations, such as headlamps, ambient lamps, taillamps, interior lamps, and turn signals. Since all such displays or lamps can be manufactured with curved surfaces, a flexible substrate is required. When manufacturing curved products using a flexible substrate, the above configuration can be applied to maintain a constant illuminance by making the spacing between LEDs constant.
[0042] Referring to FIG. 3, the adjustment plate (3000) includes a non-stretchable fixed frame (3100) and a stretchable deformable frame (3200), and the direction and magnitude of the stretchability can be determined by the combination of the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200).
[0043] The fixed frame (3100) can be implemented as a rib-like structure when the control plate (3000) is formed in a plate shape, and is formed of a material with high rigidity so as not to cause deformation. The fixed frame (3100) serves to control elongation so that it does not occur in a specific part of the substrate (2000), and thereby serves as a standard for defining the overall elongation distribution of the substrate (2000).
[0044] On the other hand, the deformable frame (3200) is a stretchable part and can be placed in an area other than the fixed frame (3100). The deformable frame (3200) can be formed from a material similar to the substrate (2000), such as a material with high elasticity like silicone or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and is freely deformed when an external tensile force is applied. In this way, the deformable frame (3200) controls the direction and size of the elasticity of the substrate (2000) in contrast to the area where elongation is restricted by the fixed frame (3100).
[0045] That is, the combination of the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200) is a key factor in determining which part of the substrate (2000) stretches more and which part stretches less. For example, if the fixed frame (3100) is positioned in the center, the elongation of the central part of the substrate (2000) is suppressed, and the elongation is distributed around the deformable frames (3200) at both ends. Conversely, if the fixed frame (3100) is positioned at both ends, the elongation of the ends of the substrate (2000) is suppressed, and the central deformable frame (3200) stretches intensively.
[0046] Accordingly, the control plate (3000) can finely control the direction and size of the elasticity of the substrate (2000) according to the arrangement and combination of the fixed frame (3100) and the deformation frame (3200), and accordingly, the change in the spacing distance between a plurality of LED elements (1000) can be adjusted to a desired pattern. Through this, it is possible to maintain uniform LED spacing and implement a stable light emission pattern even when the substrate (2000) is applied to a curved structure or an irregular surface.
[0047] Meanwhile, the above adjustment plate (3000) may further include a base film (3300) to which the above fixed frame (3100) and the above deformable frame (3200) are attached.
[0048] The base film (3300) can be formed in the form of a thin and flexible sheet and serves as a structural support for the control plate (3000). That is, the base film (3300) provides a base layer on which the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200) can be stably positioned, thereby facilitating the integral formation of the control plate (3000). The base film (3300) can also be made of a polymer such as silicone or PDMS.
[0049] Depending on the manufacturing method, the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200) may be laminated on top of the deformable frame (3200), or they may be placed on a base film (3300). In the former case, a local reinforcement structure can be formed by adding the fixed frame (3100) on the elasticity of the deformable frame (3200), and in the latter case, more precise position control and stable assembly are possible by placing the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200) simultaneously on the base film (3300).
[0050] In particular, when using a base film (3300), there is an advantage in that the arrangement pattern of the fixed frame (3100) and the deformable frame (3200) can be designed in various ways. For example, if the fixed frame (3100) is arranged at regular intervals and the deformable frame (3200) is placed between them, the elongation distribution of the substrate (2000) can be controlled more uniformly. In addition, since the stretching behavior of the entire control plate (3000) can vary depending on the thickness, material, and elastic characteristics of the base film (3300), the design can be modified to suit various application environments.
[0051] Referring to FIG. 4, the length of the fixed frame (3100) may decrease as it extends in the direction of the extension of the LED flexible substrate (100).
[0052] Here, the length of the fixed frame (3100) refers to the width, i.e., the width, of each fixed frame (3100) in the elongation direction when a plurality of fixed frames (3100) are placed on the adjustment plate (3000). Specifically, a fixed frame (3100) having a relatively long length may be placed in the central area of the adjustment plate (3000), and fixed frames (3100) having gradually shorter lengths may be placed towards the ends of the adjustment plate (3000).
[0053] This structure has the effect of controlling the LED flexible substrate (100) so that it does not stretch excessively only in the central part when the substrate is stretched by an external force. Generally, if the control plate (3000) is not provided, the central part of the substrate (100) stretches the most, and as a result, a problem occurs in which the spacing between the multiple LEDs (110) placed in the central part becomes abnormally wide.
[0054] However, as described above, if a fixed frame (3100) with a large length is placed in the central part and the length of the fixed frame (3100) is gradually reduced toward the end, the elongation of the substrate (100) is evenly distributed between the central part and the end part. Accordingly, even if the LED flexible substrate (100) is stretched, the spacing between the LEDs (110) can be maintained at a constant level overall.
[0055] Referring to FIG. 5, the thickness of the fixed frame (3100) can be reduced as it extends in the direction of the extension of the LED flexible substrate (100).
[0056] Here, the thickness of the fixed frame (3100) refers to the thickness of the fixed frame (3100) formed on the outer side of the surface of the control plate (3000), that is, in the thickness direction of the substrate (2000). Specifically, a relatively thick fixed frame (3100) may be formed in the central part of the control plate (3000), and a fixed frame (3100) with a gradually thinner thickness may be arranged towards the end in the elongation direction.
[0057] This thickness change structure performs the function of controlling the central part so that it does not stretch excessively when the substrate (2000) is stretched by an external force.
[0058] Referring to FIG. 6, the spacing between the fixed frames may increase as the LED flexible substrate (100) extends in the direction of extension.
[0059] Here, the spacing between fixed frames (3100) refers to the distance between adjacent fixed frames (3100) when a plurality of fixed frames (3100) are arranged on the control plate (3000). Specifically, the fixed frames (3100) may be arranged relatively closely in the central part of the substrate (2000), and the spacing between the fixed frames (3100) may be formed to gradually widen as it approaches the end of the elongation direction.
[0060] This arrangement structure is intended to control the deformation that occurs when the substrate (2000) is stretched. Generally, since the central part of the stretchable substrate (2000) stretches the most while both ends are fixed, there is a problem where the spacing between the LED elements (1000) located in the central part becomes excessively wide.
[0061] However, by arranging the fixed frames (3100) closely in the central part and arranging the fixed frames (3100) widely apart in the end part, the degree of elongation of the substrate (2000) can be spatially distributed uniformly. That is, the central part has a narrow spacing of the fixed frames so that elongation is relatively suppressed, and the end part has a wide spacing so that elongation is more freely achieved, so the elongation rate of the entire substrate (2000) is balanced.
[0062] Additionally, the elastic modulus of the fixed frame may decrease as it extends in the elongation direction of the LED flexible substrate (100). Here, a decrease in the elastic modulus means that the rigidity becomes smaller, and thus the elongation increases. Therefore, similar to the other configurations described above, it stretches more as it extends toward the end, that is, in the elongation direction, thereby maintaining overall balance and making the spacing between LEDs constant.
[0063] Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 7, the control plate (3000) may include slits (4000). Here, the slits (4000) are similar to the fixed frame (3100) in the drawing, but represent empty spaces formed by penetrating the control plate (3000). That is, in a configuration where a part of the control plate (3000) is missing, the more slits (4000) there are or the larger the size of the slits (4000), the greater the elongation occurs. Therefore, as the slits (4000) move toward the elongation direction, that is, toward the ends, their size increases, their number increases, or their spacing narrows. By doing this, the ends can be induced to elongate more than the center, and as a result, the spacing between LEDs can be made equal.
[0064] Meanwhile, as another embodiment of the present invention, a device including the above-described LED flexible substrate (100) capable of adjusting the separation distance may include a display.
[0065] That is, when manufacturing a curved display, the aforementioned flexible LED substrate can be applied to the display, and the spacing between the LEDs can be adjusted equally. In other words, once the curvature of the curved surface is determined, a fixed frame and a deformable frame of the adjustment plate (3000) are designed and attached to the flexible substrate to which the LEDs are attached, and then deformed to match the curvature, thereby enabling the manufacture of a display with a constant brightness through a simple manufacturing process.
[0066] Meanwhile, as another embodiment of the present invention, a vehicle lamp may be included as a device comprising the above-described LED flexible substrate (100) capable of adjusting the separation distance.
[0067] Referring to FIG. 8, when the LED flexible substrate according to the present invention is applied to a vehicle tail lamp, the tail lamp is bent to match the curvature of the rear of the vehicle. For example, if only a part is bent, a fixed frame (3100) is placed only on the adjustment plate (3000) of that part, and the spacing of the fixed frame (3100) can be arranged to be wider towards the end. That is, if there is no adjustment plate (3000), less elongation occurs towards the end, and the bent part is stretched more, so this can be limited to make the spacing between LEDs uniform overall.
[0068] Referring to FIG. 9, when applied to a vehicle, if the applied lamp is the left headlamp, instead of rotating the entire headlamp when turning left, the substrate can be bent to allow light to be irradiated in the left-turn direction. In this case, to maintain uniform illumination, the control plate (3000) can be arranged with a wider spacing between fixed frames as it moves toward the bending direction (left side of the drawing) as in FIG. 9(b). In the embodiment of FIG. 9, the spacing between fixed frames is arranged to be wider toward the left, but since the right side of FIG. 9 is also a fixed part, the elongation may be greater only in the middle part and smaller at both ends, so the configuration may be such that the spacing between fixed frames in the middle part is narrow and the rest gradually widens as in FIG. 6. Additionally, since a support must be present in the middle part of the LED flexible substrate to facilitate bending, the same applies to this case.
[0069] FIG. 10 shows an embodiment in which the LED flexible substrate is implemented from the headlamp to the high beam mode. Referring to FIG. 10, a first bar (5100) and a second bar (5200) may be included to implement the high beam mode. The first bar (5100) and the second bar (5200) are arranged on the same line as each other, but are not connected to each other and are provided separately so as to allow the substrate to bend to the left as described in FIG. 9 above.
[0070] The first bar (5100) and the second bar (5200) can be moved so that the substrate bends downward as shown in FIG. 10(b) when in high-beam mode. That is, when adjusted from position a to position b, the LED can irradiate light upward, thus enabling high-beam mode. As described above, in order to maintain a constant spacing between LEDs, a fixed frame (3100) is placed on the control plate (3000) as shown in FIG. 10(a), and the spacing can be arranged so that it widens as it moves toward the upper left in the drawing. That is, by arranging both the horizontal and vertical spacings to widen, the vertical arrangement has an effect when in high-beam mode, and the horizontal arrangement has an effect when turning left. When bending, fewer fixed frames are placed in the part where tension occurs less, and more fixed frames are placed in the part where tension occurs more, thereby controlling the tension and maintaining the overall spacing between LEDs.
[0071] Meanwhile, as mentioned above, when controlling the expansion of a flexible substrate through the arrangement of the fixed and deformable frames of the control plate, a significant amount of computation is required to calculate accurate values. In other words, the design of the control plate varies depending on the type and size of the substrate, the arrangement of LEDs, the number of LEDs, brightness, the required total illuminance or illuminance distribution, and the curvature of the designed substrate.
[0072] Referring to Fig. 11, to reduce this massive amount of computation, a fixed frame artificial intelligence model for fixed frame design can be used. That is, a fixed frame artificial intelligence model can be created using a dataset of the size, curvature, number of LEDs, brightness, arrangement, required illuminance, and illuminance distribution of a learning substrate, as well as the shape, size, thickness, material, spacing, and elastic modulus of the learning fixed frame calculated therefrom. Once such an artificial intelligence model is created, when designing a new substrate, inputting the curvature, size, number of LEDs, brightness, arrangement, and required illuminance of the substrate will generate a fixed frame design, thereby enabling the control plate to be manufactured more simply and quickly.
[0073] As described above, preferred embodiments of the present invention have been illustrated and described with reference to the drawings; however, the present invention is not limited to the specific embodiments described above. Various modifications are possible by those skilled in the art without departing from the essence of the invention as claimed in the patent claims, and such modifications should not be understood individually from the technical spirit or perspective of the present invention.
