Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a heat supply system, and more specifically, to a waste heat recovery, storage, and heat supply system for unloading low-temperature methanol from a heterogeneous cargo carrier that alternately transports carbon dioxide and methanol, wherein waste heat generated from the carrier is recovered and stored in a Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS), and the stored thermal energy is used to raise the temperature of the methanol stored in a low-temperature state to an appropriate temperature upon unloading. Background Technology
[0002] Recently, with the expansion of carbon neutrality policies and eco-friendly ship technologies, the demand for liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers and methanol carriers is increasing. However, conventional carriers are based on a single cargo transport structure, which has resulted in the problem of inefficiency where they return to an empty state after one-way transport.
[0003] Therefore, in the maritime transport sector, heterogeneous cargo carriers capable of handling both liquefied carbon dioxide and methanol are being introduced recently to maximize operational efficiency.
[0004] These heterogeneous cargo carriers can improve ship operation efficiency because they can transport multiple types of cargo using the same vessel.
[0005] Liquid carbon dioxide is generally stored and transported at low temperatures, and in heterogeneous cargo carriers, methanol may also be maintained at low temperatures depending on storage and transport conditions to utilize the same cargo storage tanks.
[0006] Meanwhile, while methanol can be maintained at low temperatures during storage and transportation, port storage tanks or downstream process facilities where it is unloaded are generally operated at ambient temperatures. Therefore, it is necessary to control the temperature of the methanol to an appropriate level during the unloading process.
[0007] However, conventional heterogeneous cargo carriers focus on a cargo transport structure that alternately transports liquefied carbon dioxide and methanol, and there is a lack of specific consideration regarding temperature control processes or energy utilization methods for unloading low-temperature methanol.
[0008] In addition, conventional technology considered using seawater or a separate heat medium to control the temperature of methanol during unloading; however, using seawater could cause a localized rise in seawater temperature around the port, which could lead to environmental problems such as an imbalance in temperature with the surrounding waters. [0031] Hereinafter, the waste heat recovery storage and heat supply system for low-temperature methanol unloading of a heterogeneous cargo carrier according to the present invention will be described with reference to the attached drawings.
[0032] FIG. 1 is an overall system block diagram of a waste heat recovery storage and heat supply system for low-temperature methanol unloading of a heterogeneous cargo carrier according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0033] A heterogeneous cargo carrier (10) means a vessel capable of transporting cargo of different characteristics, such as liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) and methanol (MeOH), by storing them in a cross-container, unlike conventional vessels that transport only a single type of cargo.
[0034] The temperature of the heterogeneous cargo carrier (10) is about minus 27 LCO2 at a low temperature level and about minus 20 It may further include a heterogeneous cargo tank (20) in which methanol in a low-temperature state at a certain level is stored alternately.
[0035] The present invention may be configured to recover waste heat generated during ship operation and store it in a thermal energy storage system, and then use the stored thermal energy to raise the temperature of low-temperature methanol and unload it to a methanol storage facility (30) in a port.
[0036] FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating the concept of heating low-temperature methanol using a thermal energy storage system (TESS) according to an embodiment of the present invention and then unloading it.
[0037] As shown in FIG. 2, low-temperature methanol at -20°C to -25°C stored in a methanol storage tank (141) can be heated to a transferable temperature of 20°C to 25°C by performing heat exchange with a heating medium supplied from a thermal energy storage system (130) and a methanol heating unit (150).
[0038] The heated methanol can be supplied to the methanol storage (30) at the port, and thus the waste heat recovered during the operation of the ship can be efficiently utilized in the methanol unloading process.
[0039] FIG. 3 is a diagram showing the configuration of a waste heat recovery storage and heat supply system for low-temperature methanol unloading of a heterogeneous cargo carrier according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0040] A waste heat recovery storage and heat supply system (100) for low-temperature methanol unloading of a heterogeneous cargo carrier according to an embodiment of the present invention may include a waste heat generation unit (110), a waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120), a thermal energy storage system (130), a methanol supply unit (140), a methanol heating unit (150), an unloading supply unit (160), and an integrated control unit (170), and these components may be included in a ship system. In particular, the integrated control unit (170) may be installed in the ship's central control room.
[0041] The waste heat generating unit (110) is a device that provides thermal energy generated during ship operation, and at least one of engine coolant, turbocharger exhaust gas, economizer exhaust gas, or boiler exhaust gas may be included as an input value.
[0042] The waste heat generation unit (110) can detect waste heat sources generated during the operation of the ship's main engine (diesel engine) or auxiliary engine, and generate waste heat generation information including the temperature, flow rate, and location of each waste heat source.
[0043] For example, the waste heat generating unit (110) can provide waste heat from engine coolant in the range of 70°C to 90°C, waste heat from exhaust gas after a turbocharger in the range of 200°C to 250°C, or waste heat from exhaust gas after an economizer in the range of 120°C to 180°C as a waste heat source.
[0044] The output value of the waste heat generation unit (110) is waste heat generation information and waste heat source, and the output value is provided as an input value to the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120).
[0045] Engine coolant refers to a cooling medium that circulates inside an engine to remove heat generated during the operation of a ship's diesel engine or auxiliary machinery.
[0046] Diesel engines generate very high heat during the combustion of fuel, and if this heat is not properly removed, parts such as cylinders, pistons, and cylinder heads may overheat, leading to engine damage or reduced efficiency.
[0047] Accordingly, a coolant circulation system is installed inside the engine, and the coolant absorbs heat from the engine, releases it through a cooler, and then circulates back to the engine.
[0048] Engine coolant can be discharged with thermal energy at a level of about 70°C to 90°C after absorbing heat from the engine's cylinder block, cylinder head, or jacket.
[0049] The waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) of the present invention may include a heat recovery unit that exchanges heat with engine coolant, and may recover thermal energy contained in the engine coolant and transfer it to a heat medium. The transferred thermal energy is stored in a thermal energy storage system (130) (Thermal Energy Storage, TESS), and the stored thermal energy can be utilized in the heating process of low-temperature methanol.
[0050] The exhaust gas from the rear of the turbocharger refers to exhaust gas generated from a ship's diesel engine or auxiliary engine that is discharged after passing through the turbine section of the turbocharger. The exhaust gas from the rear of the turbocharger can retain thermal energy at a level of approximately 200°C to 250°C even after some energy has been used to drive the turbocharger, and the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) of the present invention can recover thermal energy from the exhaust gas from the rear of the turbocharger and store it in a thermal energy storage system (130).
[0051] The exhaust gas after the economizer may refer to exhaust gas generated from the ship's main engine (diesel engine) or auxiliary engine that passes through a turbocharger and then undergoes a heat recovery process in an economizer before being discharged. Even after some thermal energy is recovered in the economizer, the exhaust gas after the economizer may retain residual thermal energy at a level of approximately 120°C to 180°C and may exhibit relatively stable temperature characteristics.
[0052] Accordingly, the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) of the present invention recovers thermal energy from the exhaust gas downstream of the economizer and stores it in a thermal energy storage system (130), and can utilize the stored thermal energy in the heating process of low-temperature methanol.
[0053] Boiler exhaust gas refers to the high-temperature exhaust gas emitted after fuel is burned in a boiler installed on a ship.
[0054] Engine coolant can serve as a stable heat source as it is continuously generated while the engine is running, exhaust gas from the turbocharger is high temperature but subject to large load fluctuations, exhaust gas from the economizer is affected by operating conditions, and boiler exhaust gas can be generated only during boiler operation.
[0055] The waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) may be a device that extracts recoverable thermal energy using waste heat source and waste heat generation information input from the waste heat generation unit (110).
[0056] The waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) may be provided with input values including a waste heat source output from the waste heat generation unit (110), temperature information of the waste heat source, flow rate information of the waste heat source, and information on the amount of waste heat that can be recovered.
[0057] The waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) transfers heat from a waste heat source to a heat medium using a waste heat heat exchanger, a heat medium circulation pump, a circulation pipe, and a flow control valve. At this time, the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) can selectively recover at least one of engine coolant waste heat, turbocharger exhaust gas waste heat, and economizer exhaust gas waste heat depending on the temperature level of the waste heat source.
[0058] The thermal energy storage system (130) stores thermal energy of a heating medium supplied from a waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) and can selectively release the stored thermal energy.
[0059] The methanol supply unit (140) can store methanol in a low-temperature state and supply the stored low-temperature methanol.
[0060] The methanol heating unit (150) can raise the temperature of the low-temperature methanol to a temperature at which it can be unloaded by performing heat exchange between the heating medium supplied from the thermal energy storage system (130) and the low-temperature methanol supplied from the methanol supply unit (140).
[0061] The unloading supply unit (160) can transfer the methanol heated in the methanol heating unit (150) to the methanol storage unit (30) in the port.
[0062] The integrated control unit (170) can control the operating status of the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120), the thermal energy storage system (130), the methanol supply unit (140), the methanol heating unit (150), and the unloading supply unit (160).
[0063] The integrated control unit (170) can control the heat release amount of the heat energy storage system (130), the heat storage amount stored in the heat energy storage system (130), the heat increase requirement required by the methanol heating unit (150), and the unloading progress rate of the unloading supply unit (160) by comprehensively considering the recoverable waste heat amount, the heat storage amount stored in the heat energy storage system (130), the heat increase requirement required by the methanol heating unit (150), and the unloading progress rate of the unloading supply unit (160).
[0064] FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the configuration of a waste heat recovery and transfer unit according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0065] A waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120) according to an embodiment of the present invention may include a waste heat heat exchange unit (121), a waste heat selection control unit (122), a heat medium transfer unit (123), a first temperature measuring unit (124), a first flow rate measuring unit (125), a recovery control unit (126), and a heat medium transfer piping unit (127).
[0066] The waste heat heat exchanger (121) can recover waste heat generated from the waste heat generation unit (110) and transfer it to a heat medium.
[0067] The waste heat heat exchanger (121) can receive waste heat source information including at least one of engine coolant, turbocharger exhaust gas, economizer exhaust gas, and boiler exhaust gas, as well as temperature information and flow rate information of the waste heat source, as input values from the waste heat generation unit (110).

[0086] FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the configuration of a thermal energy storage system according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0087] A thermal energy storage system (TESS) (130) according to an embodiment of the present invention is a device for storing waste heat generated during ship operation and supplying thermal energy required for unloading low-temperature methanol, and may include a thermal energy storage unit (131), a thermal energy management unit (132), a heat release unit (133), and a heat medium circulation unit (134).
[0088] The thermal energy storage unit (131) is a core component constituting the TESS (130) of the present invention and can perform the function of storing waste heat supplied from the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120). Specifically, the thermal energy storage unit (131) can receive thermal energy recovered from at least one of engine coolant, turbocharger exhaust gas, economizer exhaust gas, and boiler exhaust gas as an input value.
[0089] The thermal energy storage unit (131) can receive the heat medium supplied from the waste heat recovery and transfer unit (120), the recovered heat amount information, and the heat medium temperature information as input values.
[0090] The thermal energy storage unit (131) can store thermal energy contained in the input heating medium in a thermal storage medium. At this time, the thermal storage medium may be composed of a phase change material (PCM), molten salt, thermal oil, a solid thermal storage block, or a combination thereof.
[0091] The thermal energy storage unit (131) can generate storage temperature information, storage heat amount information, and heat storage state information as output values, and the output values can be provided as input values to the thermal energy management unit (132).
[0092] The thermal energy management unit (132) can receive storage temperature information, storage heat amount information, and heat storage status information supplied from the thermal energy storage unit (131) as input values.
[0093] The thermal energy management unit (132) can analyze the current state of the stored thermal energy and calculate the amount of heat available, the expected amount of heat loss, and the amount of heat that can be used to raise the temperature of methanol. In addition, the thermal energy management unit (132) can determine whether heat can be released by considering the methanol unloading schedule and the target temperature.
[0094] The thermal energy management unit (132) can generate available storage heat information, target release heat amount information, and heat release request information as output values, and said output values can be provided as input values to the heat release unit (133).
[0095] The heat release unit (133) can receive available storage heat information, target heat release amount information, and heat release request information supplied from the heat energy management unit (132) as input values.
[0096] The heat release unit (133) can transfer the heat energy stored in the heat energy storage unit (131) to a heat medium and release the stored heat to the outside. In addition, the heat release unit (133) can adjust the amount of heat medium supplied and the amount of heat released according to the target amount of heat released.
[0097] The heat release unit (133) can generate heating medium, supply heat amount information, and supply temperature information as output values, and the output values can be provided as input values to the heat medium circulation unit (134).
[0098] The heat medium circulation unit (134) can receive the heating medium supplied from the heat release unit (133), the supply heat amount information, and the supply temperature information as input values.
[0099] The heat medium circulation unit (134) can circulate the heat medium using a circulation pump and circulation pipes and transfer the heated heat medium to the methanol heating unit (150). In addition, stable heat transfer can be achieved by adjusting the flow rate and pressure of the heat medium.
[0100] The heat medium circulation unit (134) can generate heat medium flow rate information, heat medium pressure information, and heat medium supply status information as output values, and the output values can be provided as input values to the thermal energy storage system (130).
[0101] The integrated control unit (170) is configured to control the overall heat supply operation of the thermal energy storage system (130) and can control the stable supply of stored thermal energy to the methanol heating unit (150). Specifically, the integrated control unit (170) receives storage temperature information, stored heat amount information, and heat storage status information supplied from the thermal energy storage unit (131), and receives available stored heat information, target release heat amount information, and heat release request information supplied from the thermal energy management unit (132).
[0102] The integrated control unit (170) can receive methanol inlet temperature information, methanol outlet temperature information, methanol supply flow rate information, and target temperature increase information generated from the temperature sensor and flow rate sensor provided in the methanol temperature increase unit (150).
[0103] The integrated control unit (170) can calculate the amount of heat required by the methanol heating unit (150) by comprehensively analyzing the received information. Specifically, the integrated control unit (170) can calculate the difference between the current temperature of the low-temperature methanol supplied from the methanol supply unit (140) and the target heating temperature, and calculate the target amount of heat required for heating using the methanol supply flow rate information.
[0104] In addition, the integrated control unit (170) can determine whether to supply the required amount of heat by analyzing the amount of heat and the storage temperature currently stored in the thermal energy storage unit (131).
[0105] For example, if the temperature of the methanol supplied from the methanol supply unit (140) is about -20°C to -25°C and the target temperature for unloading is about 20°C to 25°C, the integrated control unit (170) can calculate the target amount of heat required to raise the temperature of the methanol.
[0106] The integrated control unit (170) can determine whether the heat quantity and storage temperature currently stored inside the TESS can satisfy the target heat quantity.
[0107] When the target heat amount is calculated, the integrated control unit (170) can control the heat medium circulation unit (134) to supply the stored thermal energy to the methanol heating unit (150). Specifically, the integrated control unit (170) can control the rotational speed of the circulation pump included in the heat medium circulation unit (134) to regulate the circulation flow rate of the heat medium. Accordingly, the speed at which the heating medium containing the stored thermal energy is supplied to the methanol heating unit (150) can be controlled.
[0108] Here, the circulation pump is configured to be included in the heat medium circulation section (134) to circulate the heat medium, and can apply pressure to the heat medium by the driving force of the electric motor, thereby allowing the heat medium to circulate along the inside of the pipe.
[0109] The integrated control unit (170) can control the supply amount of heat medium by adjusting the opening degree of the control valve included in the heat medium circulation unit (134). For example, if the outlet temperature of methanol is lower than the target temperature, the integrated control unit (170) can control the supply of more heating heat medium to the methanol heating unit (150) by increasing the rotational speed of the circulation pump or expanding the opening degree of the control valve. Conversely, if the outlet temperature of methanol is higher than the target temperature, the integrated control unit (170) can reduce the supply amount of heat medium by decreasing the rotational speed of the circulation pump or reducing the opening degree of the control valve.
[0110] Here, the control valve is included in the heat medium circulation unit (134) and can control the flow rate of the fluid by adjusting the valve opening degree.
[0111] The heat medium circulation unit (134) can circulate the heat medium according to the circulation control command and valve control command supplied from the integrated control unit (170), and can transfer the heating heat medium supplied from the heat release unit (133) to the methanol heating unit (150). Accordingly, the methanol heating unit (150) can perform heat exchange between the low-temperature methanol supplied from the methanol supply unit (140) and the heating heat medium supplied from the TESS (130) to raise the temperature of the methanol to an appropriate unloading temperature.
[0112] Specifically, the methanol supply unit (140) can supply low-temperature methanol of about -20°C to -25°C to the methanol heating unit (150), and the heat medium circulation unit (134) can supply a heating medium in the range of about 80°C to 150°C to the methanol heating unit (150).
[0113] The methanol heating unit (150) can perform heat exchange between low-temperature methanol and a heating medium to raise the temperature of the methanol to a temperature of approximately 20°C to 25°C.
[0114] The integrated control unit (170) can continuously adjust the supply flow rate, supply pressure, and supply temperature of the heat medium while monitoring the operating status of the methanol heating unit (150) in real time.
[0115] The integrated control unit (170) can prevent the stored thermal energy from being excessively released or supplied insufficiently, and can improve unloading efficiency while maintaining the temperature of methanol stably.
[0116] Accordingly, the integrated control unit (170) can control the low-temperature methanol to be stably heated to the target unloading temperature by selectively supplying the thermal energy stored in the thermal energy storage unit (131) to the methanol heating unit (150) through the heat medium circulation unit (134).
