Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an ammonia gas turbine for reducing slip ammonia and NOx, and more specifically, to a technology that minimizes the emission of slip ammonia contained in flue gas by adsorbing it with an adsorbent, separates and recovers the ammonia adsorbed by the adsorbent using the heat of the flue gas, and ensures combustion stability and minimizes NOx generation by preheating the ammonia gas. Background Technology
[0003] With the recent strengthening of international demands for carbon neutrality and greenhouse gas reduction, power generation technologies utilizing ammonia (NH3), a carbon-free fuel that emits no carbon dioxide (CO2), are garnering attention. Ammonia is easier to store and transport compared to hydrogen and features high compatibility with existing energy infrastructure. Due to these characteristics, ammonia holds significant potential as a gas turbine fuel, and power generation technologies utilizing it are regarded as an important alternative for a sustainable energy transition.
[0004] However, gas turbine systems using ammonia as fuel face several technical challenges. During the combustion process, some of the ammonia that does not fully react may leak out through exhaust outlets in the form of slip ammonia. Slip ammonia can react with NOx and SOx in the atmosphere to generate secondary particulate matter, or it may be classified as a toxic substance under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, potentially causing harmful effects to human health and the environment. These issues act as significant obstacles to the practical utilization of ammonia fuel.
[0005] Furthermore, since ammonia contains nitrogen, it generates a large amount of NOx during combustion. This causes air pollution and is highly likely to violate environmental regulations. Existing low-NOx combustor designs alone are insufficient to adequately address these issues, necessitating the parallel application of post-treatment equipment technology. In addition, ammonia has a high ignition temperature and a slow combustion speed, making it difficult to ensure combustion stability. In particular, there is a high probability of stalling or incomplete combustion occurring during low-load operation, requiring technical improvements for stable combustion. Against this backdrop, there is an urgent need for the development of technologies that can effectively reduce slip ammonia and NOx while ensuring combustion stability. Prior art literature

The slip ammonia and NOx-reducing ammonia gas turbine (100) may be used to generate power using ammonia as fuel. The slip ammonia and NOx-reducing ammonia gas turbine (100) may reduce the emission of slip ammonia and nitrogen oxides (NOx) generated during the combustion process.
[0033] The combustor (110) may be a device that uses ammonia as fuel for combustion. The combustor (110) may receive ammonia and air from the outside to generate high-temperature combustion gas. The generated combustion gas may be used to drive a turbine to produce electricity. The exhaust gas discharged from the combustor (110) may contain unreacted slip ammonia and nitrogen oxides (NOx) generated during the combustion process.
[0034] A rotary adsorption drum (120) may be positioned at the rear end of a combustor (110). The rotary adsorption drum (120) can adsorb and treat slip ammonia contained in the exhaust gas discharged from the combustor (110). The rotary adsorption drum (120) may have a cylindrical shape and may contain an adsorbent inside. The rotary adsorption drum (120) may include a drum shaft (121), an adsorption separation section (130), an adsorption section (140), an insulating material (150), a flow path cover (160), and a drum driving section (170).
[0035] The drum shaft (121) is located on both sides of the center of the rotating suction drum (120) and can serve as a central axis of rotation. The drum shaft (121) can be connected to the drum drive unit (170). The drum shaft (121) can receive power from the drum drive unit (170) to rotate the rotating suction drum (120).
[0036] The adsorption separation unit (130) may constitute a portion of the rotary adsorption drum (120). The adsorption separation unit (130) may utilize the thermal energy of the high-temperature exhaust gas discharged from the combustor (110). The adsorption separation unit (130) may perform the function of separating (desorbing) ammonia adsorbed on the adsorbent using thermal energy. The adsorption separation unit (130) may include an exhaust gas pipe (131), a preheating pipe (133), a separated ammonia discharge port (137), a separated ammonia discharge socket (138), and a leak prevention plug (139).
[0037] The exhaust gas pipe (131) can be placed inside the adsorption separation unit (130). The exhaust gas pipe (131) can be configured to penetrate the adsorbent. The exhaust gas pipe (131) can provide a passageway for high-temperature exhaust gas discharged from the combustor (110). As the exhaust gas passes through the exhaust gas pipe (131), it can heat the adsorbent through heat exchange without directly contacting the adsorbent. The adsorbed ammonia can be separated from the heated adsorbent.
[0038] The preheating pipe (133) may be placed inside the adsorption separation section (130). The preheating pipe (133) may provide a passageway through which ammonia or air supplied to the combustor (110) passes. The ammonia or air passing through the preheating pipe (133) may exchange heat with the high-temperature exhaust gas passing through the exhaust gas pipe (131). The ammonia or air may be preheated through heat exchange. The preheated ammonia or air may be supplied to the combustor (110). The combustor (110) may receive the preheated ammonia or air to improve combustion stability. The combustor (110) may also suppress the generation of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
[0039] The separated ammonia outlet (137) may be a passage through which ammonia gas separated from the adsorption separation unit (130) is discharged. The separated ammonia outlet (137) may be formed on the outer surface of the rotary adsorption drum (120). The separated ammonia discharge socket (138) may be connected to the separated ammonia outlet (137). The separated ammonia discharge socket (138) may serve to transport the separated ammonia to the outside. The recovered ammonia may be reused as fuel for the combustor (110) through the recirculation pipe (190), or the recovered ammonia may be utilized as a reducing agent for the post-treatment unit (180). The leak prevention plug (139) may serve to block the separated ammonia outlet (137) located on the side of the adsorption unit (140) to prevent the exhaust gas supplied to the adsorption unit (140) from leaking to the outside.
[0040] The adsorption section (140) may constitute the remaining area of the rotary adsorption drum (120) excluding the adsorption separation section (130). The adsorption section (140) may perform the function of adsorbing and removing slip ammonia contained in the exhaust gas that has passed through the adsorption separation section (130). The adsorption section (140) may include an adsorption supply port (141). The adsorption supply port (141) may directly supply the exhaust gas to an adsorbent. Through this, the slip ammonia contained in the exhaust gas can be removed by adsorbing it with the adsorbent.
[0041] The adsorbent may be composed of a material capable of adsorbing ammonia. The adsorbent may be composed of a material capable of desorbing upon heating. For example, the adsorbent may be a zeolite, activated carbon, silica gel, alumina, a metal-organic framework (MOF), a metal halide, or a porous polymer. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. In one embodiment of the present invention, the adsorbent may comprise a zeolite or a metal halide.
[0042] The exhaust gas from which slip ammonia has been removed through the adsorption supply port (141) can be exhausted to the outside with NOx and slip ammonia removed through an exhaust port located opposite the rotating adsorption drum (120).
[0043] An insulating material (150) may be placed between the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140). The insulating material (150) may serve to block heat transfer between the high-temperature adsorption separation section (130) and the low-temperature adsorption section (140). The insulating material (150) may prevent heat from the adsorption separation section (130) from being transferred to the adsorption section (140). This prevents a decrease in adsorption efficiency.
[0044] Here, half of the rotating adsorption drum (120) may be composed of an adsorption separation section (130) and the other half of an adsorption section (140), and the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140) are merely functionally distinct components, and depending on the rotation of the rotating adsorption drum (120), the adsorption separation section (130) may perform the function of the adsorption section (140), or the adsorption section (140) may perform the function of the adsorption separation section (130).
[0045] The adsorption section (140) and the adsorption separation section (130) may each be configured with an exhaust gas pipe (131), a preheating pipe (133), and an adsorption supply port (141) arranged symmetrically with respect to the insulation material (150). The adsorption section (140) and the adsorption separation section (130) may change the path of the exhaust gas by means of a flow path cover (160) so that when the exhaust gas is supplied to the adsorption supply port (141), it performs the function of the adsorption section (140), or when the exhaust gas is supplied to the exhaust gas pipe (131), it performs the function of the adsorption separation section (130).
[0046] In one embodiment, the adsorption separation unit (130) is located on the upper part of the rotating adsorption drum (120), and the adsorption unit (140) is located on the lower part of the adsorption separation unit (130).
[0047] The Euro cover (160) can be installed on both sides of the rotary adsorption drum (120). The Euro cover (160) can control the path of exhaust gas flowing into and out of the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140) when the rotary adsorption drum (120) rotates. The Euro cover (160) may include a separation section (161), an adsorption section (165), and a partition wall (169). The Euro cover (160) can set the path of exhaust gas inflow and outflow so that when the rotary adsorption drum (120) rotates and the positions of the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140) are reversed, the functions of the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140) are also reversed.
[0048] The separation passage section (161) may be an area corresponding to the adsorption separation section (130) in the passage cover (160). The separation passage section (161) may include a flue gas connection port (162), a heat exchange connection port (163), and an adsorption supply port plug section (164). The flue gas connection port (162) may be a passage for supplying high-temperature flue gas discharged from the combustor (110) to the flue gas pipe (131). The heat exchange connection port (163) may be a passage for supplying ammonia or air to the preheating pipe (133) and discharging it. The adsorption supply port plug section (164) may block the adsorption supply port (141). This prevents the flue gas from coming into direct contact with the adsorbent of the adsorption separation section (130).
[0049] The exhaust gas connection port (162) of the Euro cover (160) located on one side is connected to a pipe through which exhaust gas is supplied from the combustor (110), and the exhaust gas connection port (162) of the Euro cover (160) located on the other side can be connected to a post-treatment device (180) for removing NOx contained in the exhaust gas.
[0050] Additionally, air or ammonia supplied to the combustor (110) can be supplied to the heat exchange connector (163) of the Euro cover (160) located on the other side, and a pipe can be connected to the heat exchange connector (163) of the Euro cover (160) located on one side to supply air or ammonia preheated through the adsorption separation unit (130) to the combustor (110).
[0051] The adsorption flow path (165) may be an area corresponding to the adsorption section (140) in the flow path cover (160). The adsorption flow path (165) may include an exhaust gas plug section (166), a heat exchange plug section (167), and an adsorption opening (168). The exhaust gas plug section (166) may block the inlet and outlet of the exhaust gas pipe (131). This prevents exhaust gas from passing through. The heat exchange plug section (167) may block the inlet and outlet of the preheating pipe (133). This prevents ammonia or air from passing through. The adsorption opening (168) may be connected to the adsorption supply port (141), and may be connected to the post-treatment unit (180) via piping so that exhaust gas from which NOx has been removed is introduced through the post-treatment unit (180) to the adsorption opening (168) of the flow path cover (160) located on the other side.
[0052] The adsorption opening (168) of the Euro cover (160) located on one side can be connected to an exhaust port through which exhaust gas from which slip ammonia has been removed by contacting an adsorbent is discharged to the outside.
[0053] The adsorption opening (168) can induce the exhaust gas to come into direct contact with the adsorbent of the adsorption section (140). The partition wall (169) can separate the separation flow path (161) and the adsorption flow path (165). This prevents the mixing of gases.
[0054] The drum drive unit (170) can provide power to rotate the rotary adsorption drum (120). The drum drive unit (170) may include a driving device such as a motor. When the adsorption of ammonia in the adsorption unit (140) reaches a saturated state, the drum drive unit (170) can rotate the rotary adsorption drum (120) to switch the positions of the adsorption unit (140) and the adsorption separation unit (130). Through this, the saturated adsorption unit (140) can move to the position of the adsorption separation unit (130) and be regenerated by the thermal energy of the exhaust gas. The adsorption separation unit (140), which has moved to the position of the adsorption unit (140), can adsorb slip ammonia contained in the exhaust gas.
[0055] In one embodiment of the present invention, the post-treatment unit (180) can remove NOx from the exhaust gas that has passed through the rotary adsorption drum (120). The post-treatment unit (180) can resupply the exhaust gas from which NOx has been removed to the rotary adsorption drum (120). The post-treatment unit (180) may be a device for removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) contained in the exhaust gas that has passed through the adsorption section (140) of the rotary adsorption drum (120). The post-treatment unit (180) may include a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) device, etc. The post-treatment unit (180) can discharge the exhaust gas from which nitrogen oxides (NOx) have been removed to the outside. The post-treatment unit (180) may be supplied with exhaust gas that has passed through the adsorption separation section (130) to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx), and the removed exhaust gas may be supplied to the adsorption section (140).
[0056] The recirculation pipe (190) may be a pipe for transporting ammonia recovered from the adsorption separation unit (130). The ammonia recovered through the recirculation pipe (190) may be supplied as fuel to the combustion unit (110). Alternatively, the recovered ammonia may be used as a reducing agent to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the post-treatment unit (180). Reusing ammonia through the recirculation pipe (190) can increase fuel efficiency. Reusing ammonia through the recirculation pipe (190) can reduce operating costs.
[0057] The interactions and effects between each component described above are explained.
[0058] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a slip ammonia and NOx-reducing ammonia gas turbine (100) operates the gas turbine (100) using combustion heat from a combustor (110) to generate power or use power. The combustor (110) uses ammonia as fuel and combusts it mixed with air, and the exhaust gas generated during combustion is supplied to a rotary adsorption drum (130). The exhaust gas is first supplied to an adsorption separation unit (130) through the adsorption passage section (161) of a flow path cover (160) located on one side.
[0059] The exhaust gas supplied to the adsorption passage (161) of the Euro cover (160) passes through the exhaust gas pipe (131) via the exhaust gas connection port (162) and exchanges heat with the adsorbent to separate the ammonia adsorbed on the adsorbent. At this time, the high-temperature energy of the exhaust gas is used to exchange heat with the air or ammonia passing through the preheating pipe (133). The preheated air and ammonia are provided to the combustion device (110).
[0060] The exhaust gas that has consumed thermal energy through the exhaust gas pipe (131) is supplied to the post-treatment unit (180), and is supplied to the adsorption unit (140) after the NOx contained in the exhaust gas is removed as it passes through the post-treatment unit (180). The exhaust gas is supplied to the adsorption supply port (141) through the adsorption opening (168) of the Euro cover (160) located on the other side, and after removing slip ammonia by coming into contact with the adsorbent, it is exhausted through the exhaust port.
[0061] Meanwhile, a concentration measuring sensor is installed at the exhaust port to measure the slip ammonia concentration of the exhaust gas being discharged using the concentration measuring sensor (not shown), and if the concentration is higher than a preset concentration, it is determined that the adsorption of ammonia in the adsorbent is saturated, and the rotating adsorption drum (120) is rotated by the drum driving unit (170).
[0062] When the positions of the adsorption section (140) and the adsorption separation section (130) are reversed by the rotation of the rotary adsorption drum (120), the exhaust gas passes through the exhaust gas pipe (131) of the previous adsorption section (140) by the Euro cover (160) that does not rotate together, thereby separating the ammonia adsorbed on the adsorbent and regenerating the adsorbent. Since the previous adsorption separation section (130) is in a state where ammonia has been separated and regenerated by the thermal energy of the exhaust gas, it is possible to adsorb and remove the slip ammonia contained in the exhaust gas onto the adsorbent.
[0063] In this way, the rotary adsorption drum (120) can regenerate the adsorbent by continuously rotating the adsorption separation section (130) and the adsorption section (140) so that they are reversed according to the slip ammonia adsorption performance of the adsorbent, and by preheating air or ammonia and supplying it to the combustion device (110) while simultaneously adsorbing and removing slip ammonia from the adsorbent, it is possible to prevent environmental pollution and minimize the amount of ammonia released into the atmosphere.
[0065] Accordingly, the slip ammonia and NOx reduction ammonia gas turbine (100) according to the present invention can prevent environmental pollution by minimizing the emission of slip ammonia by adsorbing and removing slip ammonia contained in the flue gas through a rotary adsorption drum (120) and separating the adsorbed slip ammonia into the thermal energy of the flue gas.
[0066] In addition, by configuring the rotating adsorption drum (120) to pass air or ammonia through it, preheated air and ammonia are supplied to the combustor (110), thereby improving combustion efficiency and minimizing the generation of NOx through stable combustion.
[0067] In addition, the separated ammonia can be circulated through a recirculation pipe (190) to be used as a reducing agent to remove NOx or as fuel to increase its utility.
[0068] In addition, since the adsorbent can be regenerated and reused by switching the position of the rotary adsorption drum, system efficiency can be improved and maintenance costs can be reduced.
[0070] Although embodiments of the present invention have been described with reference to the foregoing, those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains will understand that the present invention may be implemented in other specific forms without altering its technical concept or essential features.
[0071] Therefore, the embodiments described above should be understood as exemplary in all respects and not limiting, and the scope of the invention as described in the detailed description above is defined by the claims set forth below, and all modifications or variations derived from the meaning and scope of the claims and equivalent concepts thereof should be interpreted as being included within the scope of the invention.
