Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite in which the refractive index is controlled according to the content ratio of the thermoplastic resin, and a method for manufacturing the same. More specifically, the invention relates to a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite in which thermoplastic resins having different refractive indices are mixed to match the refractive index of the resin to be the same or similar to the refractive index of the glass fiber, and a method for manufacturing the same. Background Technology
[0002] Glass fiber is a fiber-shaped material derived from glass that is widely used in various industrial fields due to its excellent physical and mechanical properties. In particular, based on these characteristics, glass fiber is formed into composites with various matrix materials to overcome the limitations of the fiber form and is being provided for diverse applications as a material with outstanding properties.
[0003] Thermoplastic resins are materials that exhibit changes in plasticity in response to changes in thermal conditions. They are relatively easy to mold due to their flexibility at specific temperatures, and are utilized in applications requiring various shapes because they maintain a fixed form and high mechanical strength when cooled below the temperature at which plasticity is exhibited. A representative example is glass fiber reinforced plastic, which consists of a plastic matrix mixed with glass fibers of a specific length; this composition allows for excellent resistance to external forces while achieving lightweight properties.
[0004] Generally, glass-based materials are transparent and suitable for various applications, but they have the disadvantages of being brittle and relatively heavy. Therefore, transparent materials based on thermoplastic resins, which possess sufficient light transmittance while being lightweight and elastic, are widely used. Although such transparent thermoplastic resins are widely used for various industrial and everyday applications based on their inherent properties, continuous improvement is required as they have properties that are inferior to those of glass-based materials.
[0005] Meanwhile, glass fiber reinforced composites having a transparent thermoplastic resin as a matrix are optically translucent or substantially opaque due to problems such as chromatic aberration and haze caused by light scattering and dispersion at the interface formed between the matrix and the glass fibers, resulting from the mismatch in refractive indices between the glass fibers included in the composite and the transparent thermoplastic resin matrix.
[0006] Therefore, if the refractive indices of the glass fibers included in the composite and the transparent thermoplastic resin serving as the matrix are controlled to be the same or similar, there is an urgent need for a composite material that ensures transparency while simultaneously improving other physical properties by including glass fibers through the minimization of light scattering at the interface, as well as a manufacturing method capable of providing such a composite material.

That is, all combinations of the various elements disclosed in this specification fall within the scope of this disclosure, and descriptions omitted in one embodiment may be interpreted in the same manner as described in other embodiments. Furthermore, the scope of this disclosure should not be considered limited by the specific descriptions provided below.
[0057] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite may be provided, comprising a first thermoplastic resin and a second thermoplastic resin having different refractive indices, and a glass fiber.
[0058] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a method for manufacturing a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite can be provided.
[0059] For example, a method for manufacturing the above-mentioned thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite is,
[0060] A first step of preparing a thermoplastic resin composition by mixing a first thermoplastic resin and a second thermoplastic resin having different refractive indices using a heating mixer;
[0061] A second step of preparing a first precursor composition by impregnating the above thermoplastic resin composition with glass fibers;
[0062] The method may include a third step of manufacturing a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite by pressing the first precursor composition with a hot press.
[0063] For example, the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin may each be a thermoplastic resin selected independently from the group comprising polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate, cycloolefin copolymer, vinyl chloride, and methacrylate resin. The first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin are resin component materials having excellent transparency and thermoplasticity, and when a composite material is formed together with glass fibers, the composite material may have excellent light transmittance and, at the same time, be well mixed with glass fibers to have physical properties such as excellent mechanical properties.
[0064] For example, the glass fiber may be included in an amount of 10 to 30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition. If the glass fiber is included in an amount of less than 10 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the physical properties of the final obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite are not sufficiently improved. If the glass fiber is included in an amount of more than 30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the transparency of the final obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite is reduced even if the refractive indices of the glass fiber and the matrix material included in the composite are similar or identical. Therefore, it is desirable for the content of the glass fiber to satisfy the above numerical range.
[0065] For example, the refractive index of the glass fiber may be 1.4 to 2.0, and preferably 1.5 to 1.8.
[0066] For example, the glass fiber may have a diameter of 3 to 20 μm.
[0067] For example, the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may have a value greater than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may preferably have a value of 101 to 150% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber, and more preferably may have a value of 101 to 120% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0068] For example, the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may have a value smaller than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may preferably have a value of 50 to 99% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber, and more preferably may have a value of 80 to 99% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0069] For example, the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may have a value greater than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may have a value smaller than the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0070] For example, the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin may be mixed in a ratio of 9:1 to 1:9 based on their respective weights. By adjusting the weight ratio of the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin, the average refractive index of the final obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite can be adjusted to be the same or similar to the refractive index of the glass fiber, despite the difference between the refractive indices of the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin and the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0071] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite may be provided comprising a first thermoplastic resin and a second thermoplastic resin having different refractive indices, glass beads, zinc borate powder, and glass fibers.
[0072] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a method for manufacturing a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite,
[0073] A first step of preparing a thermoplastic resin composition by mixing a first thermoplastic resin and a second thermoplastic resin having different refractive indices using a heating mixer;
[0074] A second step of preparing a first precursor composition by mixing glass beads and zinc borate powder into the above thermoplastic resin composition;
[0075] A third step of preparing a second precursor composition by impregnating the first precursor composition with glass fibers;
[0076] A method comprising a fourth step of manufacturing a thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite by pressing the second precursor composition with a hot press may be provided.
[0077] For example, the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin may each be a thermoplastic resin independently selected from the group comprising polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, polycyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate, cycloolefin copolymer, vinyl chloride, and methacrylate resin.
[0078] For example, the glass beads may be included in an amount of 3 to 7 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition. The glass beads are spherical glass materials, and when included in the thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite according to the present disclosure, they can enhance the mechanical properties of the composite while also enhancing the lightweight properties of the composite. If the glass beads are included in an amount of less than 3 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the properties of the final obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite are not sufficiently improved. If the glass beads are included in an amount of more than 7 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the transparency of the final obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite is reduced. Therefore, it is desirable for the content of the glass beads to satisfy the above numerical range.
[0079] For example, the zinc borate powder may be included in an amount of 1 to 3 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition. When the zinc borate powder is included in the thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite according to the present disclosure, it can impart fire resistance to the composite while maintaining the transparency of the composite. If the zinc borate powder is included in an amount of less than 1 part by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the fire resistance of the finally obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite is not sufficiently improved, and if the zinc borate powder is included in an amount of more than 3 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition, there is a problem that the transparency of the finally obtained thermoplastic transparent glass fiber composite is reduced, so it is desirable for the content of the zinc borate powder to satisfy the above numerical range.
[0080] For example, the glass fiber may be included in an amount of 10 to 30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin composition.
[0081] For example, the refractive index of the glass fiber may be 1.4 to 2.0, and preferably 1.5 to 1.8.
[0082] For example, the glass fiber may have a diameter of 3 to 20 μm.
[0083] For example, the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may have a value greater than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may preferably have a value of 101 to 150% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber, and more preferably may have a value of 101 to 120% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0084] For example, the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may have a value smaller than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may preferably have a value of 50 to 99% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber, and more preferably may have a value of 80 to 99% based on the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0085] For example, the refractive index of the first thermoplastic resin may have a value greater than the refractive index of the glass fiber, and the refractive index of the second thermoplastic resin may have a value smaller than the refractive index of the glass fiber.
[0086] For example, the first thermoplastic resin and the second thermoplastic resin may be mixed in a ratio of 9:1 to 1:9 based on their respective weights.
[0087] One or more examples of the present disclosure are described in more detail below through embodiments. However, these embodiments are intended to illustrate one or more examples, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited to these embodiments.
