A method for operating a washing machine (100) in an impregnation program, wherein the washing machine (100) has a tub (135) for containing washing liquor, a drum (115) rotatably mounted in and relative to the tub (135) for receiving laundry (110), and a heating device (140) for applying heat to laundry (110) received in the drum (115), comprises carrying out a washing process using a washing liquor containing an impregnating agent, wherein the impregnating agent is washed into the laundry (110), furthermore carrying out a spin-drying process following the washing process, wherein the washing liquor is removed from the laundry (110) and the tub (135), and furthermore carrying out a thermal fixing process following the spin-drying process, wherein the heating device (140) is controlled.to heat the laundry (110) to a fixing temperature for fixing the waterproofing agent.
