Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of pharmaceutical technology, in particular to the use of soy isoflavones and equol in the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and / or treatment of renal fibrosis. The invention, for the first time, demonstrates through systematic in vivo and in vitro pharmacodynamic studies that soy isoflavones and equol exhibit significant anti-renal fibrotic activity. In a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)–induced renal fibrosis mouse model, administration of soy isoflavones at specific doses of 100 mg / kg and 200 mg / kg, as well as administration of equol, significantly alleviated renal histopathological damage, including renal tubular atrophy, inflammatory cell infiltration, and collagen deposition, and significantly reduced the expression levels of fibrosis-related marker proteins, including fibronectin (FN) and type I collagen (COL-I). These results provide a novel technical solution and a reliable experimental basis for the development of soy isoflavones and equol as therapeutic agents for renal fibrosis.
