Abstract

The present invention relates to the lactoferrin protein or one of its nucleic acids for use in the diagnosis or prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The invention relates to a method for diagnosing or prognosing AD in a subject, consisting of evaluating the lactoferrin level in the saliva or in a saliva sample of said subject and determining whether said level is greater than or less than 6.5 μg / ml. A value less than 6.5 μg / ml is indicative of AD or the prognosis of AD. Another aspect is a kit comprising at least one reagent, preferably an antibody, for the quantification of lactoferrin in the saliva or in a saliva sample of a subject, allowing the comparison of said quantification with a predetermined threshold value.<!--endfragment-->
