Abstract

The present technology offers compositions comprising arylcarboxylic acids and, for example, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), chemically conjugated to oxymorphone (4,5-α-epoxy-3,14-hydroxy-17-methylmorphinan-6-one) to obtain novel oxymorphone prodrugs / compositions, including benzoates, salicylates, propionates, fenamates, and acetates, which have a reduced potential for oxymorphone abuse. The present technology also relates to patient treatment methods, pharmaceutical kits, and methods for synthesizing conjugates according to the present invention.
