Abstract

The present invention relates to novel plants, particularly pepper plants, capable of producing fruit that can be kept longer on the plant and stored after harvest under refrigerated conditions without excessive softening. The invention therefore relates to a pepper plant that produces fruit with significantly increased fruit firmness at harvest, this increased firmness being controlled by a monogenic genetic determinant, said increased firmness being defined as a fruit deformation under a 1 kg force that is less than that of a fruit from a control pepper plant lacking said genetic determinant.
