SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FORECASTING DEMAND FOR MULTIMEDIA CONTENT AND SELECTING OPTIMAL DELIVERY PROCESSES (FMS FORECASTING INTERSOFTWARE)

Abstract

A system and methods for the optimal distribution of streaming data among cloud-based providers, content delivery networks, and peer-to-peer networks are proposed to facilitate the delivery of internet entertainment services. The forecasting middleware scheduler (fms) software collects monitoring data on multimedia content usage and uses it as input for a resource forecasting engine that predicts future usage demand. To do this, the fms uses: (1) several standard time-series models to fit the data to the most appropriate model and predict future demand values, and (2) an innovative epidemic spread model and method for predicting potential epidemic spread of content. An algorithm is used in the fms to combine the prediction methods to suggest the optimal delivery methods to use.
