Abstract

A security device comprising a substrate having a viewing region (2, Figure 4a) equipped with a darkening layer, a first color composite image formed on one side of the darkening layer comprising a first (3, Figure 4a) and a second (4, Figure 4a) sub-images with respective first and second color components, and a second color composite image on the other side of the darkening layer comprising first (5, Figure 4b) and second (6) sub-images. The second image is a color-inverted version of the first image and is produced using a pattern mask representative of the second image.When either side of the viewing area is viewed in reflected light, the patterns on that side are dominantly visible, and when the viewing area is viewed in transmitted light, a composite color image created by a mixture of colors from the first and second images is visible.
