BONE ANCHORING ASSEMBLIES AND ASSOCIATED INSTRUMENTATION

Abstract

Bone anchor assemblies and associated instrumentation are described here. In some embodiments, a modular bone anchor assembly allows a bone anchor to be driven into a bone and a head or recipient organ to be attached to it at a later time. The bone anchor may have a smaller footprint than the complete assembly, which can improve visualization and anatomical spatial awareness during bone anchor insertion and other surgical steps performed prior to fixation of the head or recipient element to the bone anchor. Various types of modular heads are described, as well as various instruments for training a bone anchor, attaching a head to a bone anchor, removing a head from a bone anchor, and performing unilateral fixation to the head of a bone anchor assembly.The present invention relates to drive interfaces for driving a bone anchor, as well as features enabling a bone anchor to serve as a fixation point for soft tissue retraction, disc space distraction, derotation, etc.
