Abstract

The invention relates to processes for electrolysing a lithium-containing aqueous solution, the aqueous solution having a pH of less than 0.5. The invention also relates to processes comprising electrolysing a first lithium-containing aqueous solution to obtain a second lithium-containing aqueous solution, together with an acidic aqueous solution having a pH of less than 0.5, adjusting the pH of the second aqueous solution using the acidic aqueous solution to obtain a third lithium-containing aqueous solution having a pH of less than 0.5, and electrolysing the third lithium-containing aqueous solution. The invention also relates to methods of rectifying a lithium-containing liquid medium with an acidic aqueous solution to obtain a lithium-containing aqueous solution, and electrolysing the lithium-containing aqueous solution. The invention also relates to processes for preparing a lithium-containing liquid medium.
