Process for oxidation of pectin

Abstract

The invention relates to chemistry, in particular to a process for oxidation of pectin with the aim of increasing its ion exchange capacity, which can be used in medicine as enterosorbents for removing radioactive metal ions and heavy metals from the human body.The process, according to the invention, consists in dissolving ammonium persulfate in water and adding pectin, subsequently the mixture is heated, stirred, cooled, filtered, and the oxidized pectin obtained is washed until the remaining ammonium persulfate is completely eliminated and dried to a constant mass.
