Abstract

The present invention consists of a manufacturing process for a disposable, low-cost container made from corn husks. The corn husks are washed, drained, treated in a citric acid solution, and then with a colloidal dispersion, preferably carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as the dispersed phase. They are then dried in a mold under controlled pressure and temperature. Finally, the resulting corn husk container can be coated and / or dyed with a non-toxic colorant. This combination produces a container with sufficient firmness to be used as a disposable food or liquid container, and it is also a biodegradable product made from renewable materials.
