NEW SOLID PHASES OF METFORMIN

Abstract

This application describes novel solid phases comprising metformin (MET) and a molecule possessing a hydroxyl, carboxyl, or phenol group as coformers, with improved pharmaceutical properties compared to metformin compounds known in the prior art. In some embodiments of the invention, the coforming agents are selected from cholesterol-lowering, lipid-lowering, and antioxidant agents; preferably, the solid phases may be incorporated into pharmaceutical compositions. Other embodiments of the invention describe the uses of the solid phases in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of metabolic syndrome and / or diabetes.
