Abstract

The present invention relates to a nanosystem based on polymers such as polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG), forming nanoparticles (NPs). These nanoparticles can be functionalized on their surface with a peptide drug targeting pancreatic islets, based on glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogues, and can encapsulate and deliver another drug. This invention emphasizes the ability to deliver multiple drugs along with localization capabilities to target pancreatic islets when the nanoparticles are introduced into the bloodstream or a pancreatic islet transplant environment. The present invention also relates to the process for manufacturing the nanosystem.
