Abstract

The present invention relates to the preparation of a formulation based on Heliopsis longipes, a perennial plant commonly called "chilcuague" and endemic to the Sierra de Álvarez and Sierra Gorda in Mexico, a region encompassing parts of the states of San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, and Querétaro. This plant possesses a high concentration of bioactive compounds in its root, which can be utilized through extraction techniques using various solvents such as ethanol. When consumed by infusion in water (the typical method), the levels detected are low. The most significant effect of the extraction on the evaluated physicochemical parameters is on the color, and to a lesser extent, on the pH of each extract. This invention also presents an opportunity to formulate everyday foods that incorporate these types of extracts, rich in bioactive compounds, into their formulation.
