Abstract
The present invention describes the implementation and operation of a foldable mobile platform to support a wheelchair and its occupant (a person with a motor disability), whose objective is to allow the wheelchair to enter and exit the passenger seat of a compact car. The platform's movement is achieved through two drive systems installed on two plates, one fixed and one movable. The fixed plate acts as a support and is installed in the passenger seat and attached to the compact car. The first drive system moves a plate that performs an orientation function, simultaneously rotating and translating, thus positioning the intermediate plate in the direction of the car door.The second drive system is installed on the movable intermediate plate and causes a translational movement of the movable upper plate, advancing linearly towards the outside of the car, so that once fully deployed, the chair can exit the vehicle or vice versa. Both drive systems comprise a motor coupled to speed reducers based on belts and toothed pulleys, with two speed reductions. A worm gear mechanism is coupled to the last pulley to perform linear movement. The worm gear moves the corresponding plate linearly, which rests on sealed nuts that act as bearings in linear guides.
