Abstract
The present invention uses real-world data collected through Intelligent Intersection (II) systems and associates it with data from a digital map or Geographic Information System (GIS) of a city or urban area. The real-world data obtained from the II systems can include information related to vehicular traffic, pedestrian flow, accidents, public works, and other relevant factors, while the GIS data can be spatial and non-spatial data that define a map or urban area in detail. Thus, in the present invention, the GIS data, combined with the data obtained from the II systems, can be used to generate a virtual reality environment that serves as a simulator for driver training or urban planning (including street and avenue redesign) or to improve traffic flow efficiency through the efficient control of traffic lights.To achieve this technical objective, the virtual reality environment generation system of the present invention comprises a 3D graphics engine in operational communication with a virtual reality platform. Through this communication, it is possible to create a 3D city model of an urban environment based on GIS system data and information obtained from real-world information systems. The data collected by the information systems is used to modify the virtual reality environment executed by the virtual reality platform in real time.
